Not a bad place. Didn’t exceed expectations. But didn’t disappoint
We enjoy the High Lawn, excellent cuisine.
From desk lady could smile and be courteous it would not hurt.
Highlawn Pavilion is a lovely restaurant with the most magnificent view of New York City. It has been a family favorite for many years! Love the ambiance and the service is always attentive.
Loved the food. service and spectacular view of NYC.
Everything was as expected, we have visited in the past on our anniversary because we were married there. The main reason I’m giving it 4 stars overall bc I asked for a special table and didn’t get one( tables near the window for the view are premier)
Service & food quality were consistent
I went to the HIGHLAWN PAVILION for a Birthday lunch since I was going somewhere that was already planned for me for dinner. It was wonderful and our Waiter was Fabulous.. I always enjoy my time here. It's a great place
The ambiance was very nice lbut the food was disappointing and not good for the amount of money you pay, it lacked taste and flavor. The presentation of the food was not good either considering this is a high end restaurant. Maybe I was expecting since it is well known for great cuisine.
We had a lovely lunch at Highlawn. The menu was very attractive, the service was excellent as was the food. It was a nice fall day and the view was beautiful. The whole experience was so enjoyable. I look forward to an opportunity to go back again.
Thanks for asking
It was for my birthday and the dinner and the whole experience were exceptional!
Greeted quick, sat right away with a window seat as requested on open table. Waiter was knowledgeable, accommodating and super nice. Food was fresh, plentiful and delish! The petit fours was wonderful and different from a normal “desert”! Loved the entire experience! We will be back for another special occasion.
We've been coming to Highlawn over 20 years. It's still a place where we like to spend some special time. Love the view.
Excellent service and food, with a spectacular view of NYC.
Mothers birthday. No efforts were made to recognize this.
Service was excellent ambience was perfect and the views are spectacular
A wonderful dining experience. The service was outstanding and the food was fabulous. I now have another VERY favorite restaurant.
We had a great time and sat in the area in front of the piano and heard some live jazz while we enjoy dinner and it was formal but at the same time walking because we were by the bar
Went to celebrate our fifth anniversary, we also got married there. Food is excellent, as well as the service. Great dinner with an amazing view!!
The food was good, the drinks (my wife's Ruby Slipper) were nothing special. The problem is that the prices are for superior food and drink. It was not. The dishes were very nice, but more fancy and "original' than excellent. Really good ingredients, but the preparation (for a metaphor) reminded me of buildings in China that reach much to far for form over function.
Fabulous Friday evening overlooking NYC skyline. Fall foliage made the view even more spectacular. Our server, Carlos was phenomenal. It made some recommendations that proved to be delicious. Squash soup and filet mignonette did not disappoint. The food runners asked before clearing plates (which I prefer). Wine and beer selection was very good also. After dinner and dessert, the bar area had lively music played by personable musicians. Great night!
Although the food was not exceptional, it was good and the whole experience was well worth going to the Highlawn Pavillion. We were there for lunch and I would go back, again.
Our first time there for our 1st year wedding anniversary. We were impressed with the view of NYC and the the taste of the food was phenomenal. We found our anniversary restaurant for many years to come. While my wife went to the rest room I overheard the table next to us telling the waiter they were there for their 29th wedding anniversary. We chatted a bit once we were ready to leave and he said, we'll see you next year. LMAO
One of the best restaurants I know! Fantastic place!
Excellent food. Great waiter Eoin. Amazing wine.
Nice location, the view is also nice if you have a window seat. The service is acceptable, but not as one would expect at these prices. Our first contact was with the concierge, who didn't seem like we mattered much to him much. The food was very good, but the wait staff were as attentive as you would find in any low to mid price restaurant. Music coming in from the bar area was a bit loud, but not enough to make us shout. Overall, we had a decent time, and would return. Just don't expect triple A service.
We had a lovely, enjoyable evening for my mother's 94th birthday at the Highlawn Pavilion. The food was delicious and the service impeccable. We shared a special abalone appetizer which was amazing (probably the taste-treat of the evening for me), then salads and entrees. My mother greatly enjoyed her filet mignon, and I liked my salmon. I asked for it to be prepared gluten free since I am celiac, so it came with potatoes instead of the usual black rice (although I'm not sure why rice would not be gluten free). The restaurant is very accommodating of special dietary requests, which I appreciate. We highly recommend the Highlawn Pavilion for celebrations and special occasions!
Dan is da best!!!!
Had a reservation via open table for 8 people for an important business dinner, only to arrive and find a note on the window telling us they were closed for a maintenance problem. Understanding that things can happen, I don’t understand or accept that they didn’t bother to call those with reservations alerting them to the fact that they would be closed.
A lunch that costs nearly $100 before tax and tip should include wild-caught seafood only, not second-rate farmed fish and shrimp.
We went for our anniversary. Aside from the spectacular view, the service was excellent and the food very good. We had the glazed salmon and the venison and both were presented well and were very good. Appetizers also great, Squash soup and Beet Salad, between us. We also had petit fours for dessert which were very good and fun to sample. My only complaint, and the reason I gave only 4 stars, is the coffee. It was mediocre-it may have been age and it may have been the quality of the coffee or it may have both. Definitely recommend!
Great food, great service, great view. Have been here many times and always a great experience here.
Amazing views and decor. Went on a Thursday.
Going to be critical because it's a fine dining establishment and hopefully this is beneficial if they pay attention.
Had to order four different wines before they had the one we wanted. Must have better communication or updates to servers. Particularly when I'm paying 150 dollars for a 60 dollar bottle. Red wine bottle came out warm. I expected the wine to be cellared properly especially with the ludicrous markup.
Valets didn't open door for myself or my wife when we arrived or when we left.
Maitre d didn't pull out my wife's chair when we were sat at our table.
Food was good. Dessert was very good. Waiter was very gracious and apologized for the wine mishap.
Overall this place is the best positioned restaurant in Essex County and arguably Suburban New Jersey with the views and decor. The little things need to be tightened up to make this place truly great.
Lovely views of NYC skyline, wonderful food and unhurried service. Have been here twice, both times for special occasions. Would never hesitate to return for any excuse. I always order fish or pasta when dining out, but I ordered the venison loin medium rare. It was thinly sliced and so tender I could cut it with my fork. They use a lot of locally sourced ingredients with much of their pesticide-free produce coming from their own local NJ farm. And they have their own pastry chef so be sure to save room for dessert!
The food is ok but The portions are small. And the place is very expensive
Let's start with the positives- the setting is beautiful with a great view and the building is outstanding. Upon entering we had to search for the maitre'd- he was very unfriendly and mechanical- there was no welcome feeling. The food was very unimaginative although well prepared. There are several restaurants with much better food and warmer atmospheres within a few miles. This place survives because of the location and physical plant. Overall extremely disappointing. I would certainly not return except to enjoy the view (not the food)!
Extremely attentive wait staff went above and beyond to guarantee us a great dining experience.
The view was exactly what I read about. It was an awesome sight seeing the Manhattan Skyline. Get in early to walk the park and look at the September 11 memorial. Perfect for celebrating life event - birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Food price was $$$ but the menu is definitely different, new tastes for me in both appetizers and main dishes. I'll go back again.
Anniversary. Our waiter Andrew was excellent!
One of our favorite restaurants
Great night... I asked for a table with a view, not knowing if they'd pay attention to the request and they came through for me... it was a special night and they really made it great. Thank you!!!! Food and service were awesome.
The view is spectacular!
Go on a clear day. Definitely a special occasion place. Food is fine.
But for some strange reason they have now put a salesperson at a desk with a computer right inside the front door.
Not the welcoming place it used to be.
