Brilliant evening with friends. Lovely food and great service
Good location, excellent service. Food fine and mostly tasty, although chips rather hard
Absolutely excellent recommend the pie.service superb
Food was well cooked and promptly delivered despite being quite busy. A good choice of beers and wines also available if a little in the expensive side
Really lovely pub! Would definitely go back! Food was amazing and the atmosphere is gorgeous!
Saw this on the Greg Wallace tv show and thought it looked amazing. It didn’t disappoint- lovely food, great service, fab first visit to York
Booked online and when we arrived we were given the option to eat outside.
This was great as it was still very warm.
Food was great (I had the pie without mushrooms, my wife had the lamb rump) we shared a little cheese board for dessert.
Thoroughly recommend this place.
There famous steak pie was just as good as they say but needed a bit more mash with it
Delicious food, friendly staff, great atmosphere . Central location near York Minster.
My friend and I had a meal in the lovely little outside courtyard here on a baking hot and busy Tuesday in York. All the staff were very friendly and our orders were taken swiftly, despite it being so busy. The menu, though extensive, is mainly meat. As a pescatarian I usually have no trouble finding a fish dish, but the only one on the menu that didn't have meat of some sort with it, which the kitchen refused to change, had sold out. My only option was to choose the Thai fishcake starter, which our lovely waitress said I could have as a main, but when it arrived it was one absolutely tiny fishcake. I think I was just unlucky and my friend really enjoyed her meal, but I doubt we will be returning. We did have a very nice bottle of wine though :)
Great central place to eat in York. Lovely outdoor space
The Guy Fawkes Inn was cosy, quaint and beautifully decorated. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was calming and really took you back in time. By far the thing that stood out the most was the steak pie, it was delicious. Would highly recommend.
Ordered charred vegetables for starter, just a small pot of courgettes arrived, and ordered the assortments of breads and oil and there was 4 very small pieces of bread. The bowl the oil and balsamic was in was too deep you couldn’t get any balsamic on your bread. Staff were friendly and helpful, food portions were big but overall food was quite disappointing. Beef roast was dry and and the veg was bland, sausage and mash was quite nice but could tell it had been sat out a while as the mash had a gone hard on the outside when it arrived.
Sunday lunch was not the best, fatty beef, tough potatoes, we complained but they didn’t seem to be bothered. We overheard other diners complaining. Not recommend.
Disappointed by our Sunday Roast, potatoes and beef were not good at all. Could hear other diners complain about their food also. Roll poly sponge dessert did not even appear cooked and was a tiny amount for a £7 dessert.
Couldn't fault the food or the service, was just a bit hot needed a fan or two ..
Viskted York for my boyfriends 30th birthday and picked this restaurant due to the central location and interesting historical link. The location is great but the historical link could be made more of / mentioned. Some quotes are printed on the wall but font and size means it is not easily readable from all seats.
My boyfriend had the lamb and said it was the best he'd ever had. I am vegetarian and the menu was fairly limited, but I went for the stirfry tofu as it was a special. The flavours were great but it was too spicy to enjoy and I left 80% of it. I am not opposed to a bit of spice but it was unbearable! Interestingly the table next to us ordered curry and had the same problem.
Overall, a nice restaurant in a great location with friendly staff and decent food. Probably wouldn't visit again myself unless the veggie menu was expanded but would recommend to friends.
Delicious food that was reasonably priced and great service.
Great atmosphere, attentive staff and excellent food.
Two of us ordered pie, waited 1 hour for them to tell us they only had 1 pie left. A couple walked in after us and ordered their food, got a pie and got their dinner before us. We continued to wait for our new order for another 45 mins, they forgot the veg we ordered also. Wouldn’t go again felt it was a terrible start to our stay in York. The waitress was lovely. 2 hrs and 30 mins in a pub spent waiting on food.
Good service despite restrictions etc. Lovely food and ideal being outside on a dry warm day.
Lovely food and attentive staff, definitely worth checking out 👍
Great, cosy atmosphere perfect for sheltering from the rain. The pie was outstanding.
We were recommended by a friend to visit here. So glad that we did. Couldn’t fault the place. Staff were very friendly, polite and the service was excellent. Food was very nice indeed.
Highly recommended…! Happy Customers.
Went for lunch and had the fish finger sandwich with a bottle of wine, was delicious. The sandwich came with chips and salad!
Unenamoured with the guy fawkes. I had the lamb, which was undercooked slightly and very chewy. The delphinouse potatoes were nice. The waitress was pleasant. The pub is ok, but been to better. The website is misleading, you only get discounts if you book rooms.
Service was excellent. Food was very good. Excellent value for money. A bit of history too.
We decided to do the set 3 course menu. It was fab .. I had never had a sticky toffee pudding as I dont like toffee but I ate it all, it was so delicious . We love the atmosphere, decor and candles on the table. Service was good, nothing too much trouble. Staff friendly and helpful.
Super food served very good value on this set menu. Highly recommended.
Really good food. Steak pie was absolutely amazing.
Lovely food and comfortable atmosphere a lot of history
Safety was excellent, service great. Food was fresh, hot and delicious.
Loved this place , staff were so friendly and helpful . Food was amazing !
The food was amazing, the service was really good and the atmosphere was great. I would thoroughly recommend this place to eat!
Good pub food, chilled ambience, great for a relaxed romantic meal.
Excellent unfussy food. Very helpful staff. An atmospheric building to be in and a great location in the city. My third time eating there and always very good.
Menu was substantial and food was good and reasonably priced. Due to bad weather we arrived 1 hour earlier than booking but the pub accommodated our needs.
Food was quite greasy. Large portions but without much flavour.
Reasonably priced though.
Very quirky, good food and value. Nice buzzy atmosphere. The service was a little slow but were really pleasant. Definitely recommend
Vastly overpriced! Ordered a pint of carlsberg which I had been drinking at different places throughout the day, but here it was literally twice the price of everywhere else and I left half of it because it was flat and just didn't taste very good. Was going to order food but at £14.95 for a burger, no thank you.
We left VERY disappointed
