Guy Fawkes Inn
Delicious hearty food . The pies were amazing ( as usual) . I’ve taken one star off as my husbands portion of calves liver was “ starter size” . Up the portion size of the liver , guys , and it will be full marks from us 👍
As always...................fantastic. Great food, great setting, good selection of beers.
Traditionally Historic building, with an aging smell. Rustic furniture. Truly feels l was back in time. Food portions where huge, great value and quality
I have visited Guy Fawkes on several occasions.
It has never failed to impress.
Lovely, cosy atmosphere.
Great selection on the menu and good value wines.
Outstanding pie, really couldn’t have been any better
Absolutely beautiful. Lovely atmosphere. The mackerel starter was a little bit small and they didn’t have any pigeon pie available. We opted for the steak pie which was very very nice and value for money.
Would definitely eat there again.
Great authentic pub, food was lovely. We had roast beef, curry and fish and chips followed by sticky toffee pudding. Great choice of beers and wines. Have dined here a few times and stayed, we will be back again.
Guy Fawkes never fails to impress.
A traditional pub, dark, comforting interiors.
Friendly and efficient service.
Wonderful chipolatas, followed by a beef roast...outstanding.
Crème brûlée.. light, moist and delicious with a perfect sugar crust.
We will be back very soon
We went to celebrate a birthday and had tried several times before to secure a table. Food
was OK, but it annoying having the waiter continually calling me mate.
Better than our last visit and that was 5 stars as well!! Great staff, great food and great atmosphere.
Fantastic place.. ambience great. food tremendous..especially the creme brulee with the strawberry side..which was awesome.. all 6 of us enjoyed the whole experience..great staff... we always spend an evening here when we are in York..we will be back ..
Delightful staff very hospitial. Excellent standard of food cooked fresh as ordered, & amasing value for money. The resturant is darkly decorated , in a smokey grey....very apt for the name of the inn.!! My 2nd visit here & again not dissappointed. Visit & enjoy.
Went for a birthday meal on a Thursday evening in the Easter holidays. Most tables were taken so luckily we had booked. Food was gorgeous (boyfriend said the Guy Fawkes pie was the best pie he’s ever had), staff were friendly and helpful and there was a nice calm atmosphere. Would recommend!
Have been to the guy fawkes a few times excellent location food and service thankyou xxxxx
Nice staff, decent service. Ham hock way too salty. Black pudding with toffee apple, the toffee apple added a much welcomed change in texture but was too sweet for the dish. Roast beef stone cold, the rest of the Sunday lunch was average at best. It wasn't horrific but I won't recommend it to anyone.
It's the second time we have been for Sunday roast and both times have been excellent. Food is fantastic as are the friendly helpful staff. Great decor and feel in a relaxed dining room.
Menu could use some further consideration. Serving haddock in place of cod for example. Otherwise the staff were friendly and the venue was atmospheric.
Really enjoyed our meal and stay at the Guy Fawkes Inn. Excellent service and food. Staff were more than helpful. Can’t fault anything
Exceptional food, service and atmosphere.
I could not imagine how it could be any better.
Would have been a better review but two children messing around on next table and playing videos on phone at full volume spoiled it.
The homemade black pudding and home produced steak pie were exceptional. The staff were at tentative and helpful.
Quaint, cosy, friendly with a lovely ambience and outstanding service.
We went for Sunday lunch and had a wonderful starter/nibbles of honey glazed sausages and bread with balsamic oil and hummus.
The roasts were perfectly cooked and the vegetarian option was delicious.
A great, relaxed pub, with high quality food.
The food was very average. One of us ordered fish and chips, which was good but the other had roast chicken which wasn't roast at all. It was a herby griddled chicken breast. The vegetable accompaniment was best part of the roast. We had sticky toffee pudding which tasted okay, but only lukewarm. The staff and service were faultless, it was just slightly disappointing food.
Food was lovely, we had the BT’s and bobs starter, highly recommend! Really friendly staff too
This is our local and one of our go-to places for a drink over the weekend and the occasional Sunday lunch. We love the cosy authentic atmosphere of the space and the food is very good of its kind. The only thing I would change is the nut roast, it tasted a little too much of a basic stuffing and would benefit from more character. Best Yorkshires ever though!
Very enjoyable lunch in a lovely setting . Food was very good and service was excellent . Did not wait long to be seated and served . Definitely one to recommend for anyone visiting York
Everything was absolutely delicious. The steak was cooked to perfection, the courses came out perfectly timed and it just ran like clockwork. The service was second to none. Our server had a comprehensive knowledge of the drinks available and was attentive throughout, with drinks refreshed before being asked and any requests dealt with promptly. The decor is beautiful, very 'olde-worldy' which we love, and just the right level of lighting. It was a little noisy at times - the restaurant is adjoining a busy bar area - but it wasn't overpowering our conversation. To give you some idea of how highly we rate it we live roughly two hours of motorway driving from the restaurant and we are going to try to get back at least once a month.
The food and service was amazing. Will return. Can highly recommend the pie and the fish and chips. They even adjusted the portion size of fish and chips to suit a younger diner. Very impressed.
This is a great pub with a fantastic team right in the heart of York. The food is always great quality. It is what a pub should be
we ate at the guy fawkes on a recommendation from our son.he said i must try the pie ...it was exceptional so i say to all who read this go to the guy fawkes and definately try the pie .i must also add that the lady who served us was really friendly and welcoming
The food was good but in the area where we were seated there was a rather unpleasant background aroma of drains
Service and food was phenomenal
Great food and the staff were really friendly and helpful. Brilliant
Excellent friendly staff and very hearty food . Historic pub a little beaten up around the edges but great atmosphere and character. The pie is as good as the menu claims
Great lunch menu. Good value in the heart of town. Excellent quality.
Very good food ( we had the special steak pie which was excellent, and a decent sirloin steak). Nice atmosphere in historic pub and friendly and efficient waitresses. Gets quite busy so good idea to book.
We went here to celebrate a birthday the food was lovely we noticed that people who sat outside had blankets which was a nice touch. Service was good especially our waitress however the guy who showed us to our table could have been a bit more amicable. Overall a good experience
Fantastic food, nice staff and an amazing setting. What more could we ask for?
Absolutely fantastic, the only slight criticism was that the burger was too salty, I have had it in the past and it was perfect then so I suspect it must have just been a slip by the chef, my partner says it was the best Sunday roast he has ever had
My roast beef like shoe leather, wife's meat totally inedible. Wife's meat replaced but not vegetables which were stone cold. I had already finished my meal so I complained and waitress said would get fresh vegetables - at that point we got up and left.
Lovely atmospheric old pub. Great service. Delicious Sunday dinners, vegi and chicken.
