Staff were friendly and service was quick. The food was delicious would definitely recommend and advise to book as busy
We booked a table in advance for our trip to York. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was piping hot and very good. Will definitely return
Had to wait 20mins for our table. Otherwise everything excellent
Pre-booked table expected to be in main restaurant room and not in draughty open doorway at the front on very uncomfortable wooden bench.
Didn’t expect to have to pay before eating
Didn’t bother staying to order desserts
Beautiful place that has a fantastic atmosphere service is impeccable as is the food would highly recommend anyone visiting York to book this fantastic venue the history is very well advertised throughout the building
Starter was not as described on menu.
Roast beef was extremely fatty.
Seemed like frozen road potatoes that were very hard.
Ordered a drink and the waiter never brought it over.
The ambience and vibe is nice but the food and service were a massive let down.
Right from entering Guy Fawkes Inn it was obvious that the staff didn't want to be there. After introducing ourselves and confirming our table booking to the gentleman at the front of house, the chap walked off without a word. Unclear if we were to follow or stay we decided to follow him. He collected the menus off a side table and then showed us to our table.
Our first waiter who took our order delivered only three glasses, there was four of us. She appeared disinterested, but not unfriendly, took our order and left. The order when it came was wrong. As we were hungry we chose not to say anything and eat what we had been given by the second waiter, who was as interested in us as the other two had been—zero.
The food was ok, nothing special for the price, and the place was FREEZING. We were already cold due to the storm bringing wind, snow, and ice, so to sit in a cold draughty restaurant wasn't good, especially as we have two teenage daughters, who were fed up of being cold. No one asked if everything was ok until it came to paying the bill, and only then did anyone seem the least bit interested in us.
Overall experience was bad, so much so my husband said we can strike that one off the list.
The pie is delicious. I added a side of vegetables because it only comes with mash. However it is very filling and I struggled to finish it.
The food was cooked to perfection, the staff were lovely, the service was brilliant. Also best pint of Guinness in York. Would highly recommend.
Had a lovely meal, friendly and efficient staff in a character building
Very pleased with the welcome we received and the service. The food was excellant.
Waited 15 minutes for a table we had booked and then lost our food order and waited over an hour for main course. Food tasted lovely. Gave us a complimentary pudding because of delay but portion was very small
good ambience. Well cooked food but menu limited.
Lived up to my expectations for food, drink, service and accommodation. Excellent.
Good food got a great table I had pre booked. Quick service. Good choice of beers and gins.
Lovely food, excellent service. Large portions. Will be back
Potatoes and Yorkshire pudding both hard. Meat was very chewy. We had a Sunday roast at 7pm and think it had been sitting around all day. Not fresh.
Lovely restaurant and the Sunday Roast was delicious
We really enjoyed our Sunday roast the food was excellent. The only thing I would say is that the food came out so quickly! I know some people would like this but we had only been sat down for 5 minutes when our starters came and then the mains came very quickly after. It was fine as we just sat at the table for a while after our meal to finish our wine- we weren’t rushed out!! But would probably of preferred a bit of a break between courses and to have our drinks come out before starters.
Sitting outside for dinner in the rain, unless you’re next to a heater it’s pretty cold. Main meal was nice however starters very boring.
Well-prepared food although some menu items were off at 1215 on a Saturday! Bar had a good choice of well-kept beers. Our group of 5 sat outside in the pleasant covered and heated beer garden. Service was a bit slow but I expect that was due to insufficient staff. Bar staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. Overall a good experience.
Really enjoyed our visit, a proper pub with proper history......would definitely recommend.
Great food, service and very atmospheric. Good value, would recommend.
Great restaurant, lots of character and nice food.
Excellent as always
Highly recommend this place food was excellent and lovely surroundings, I would just say you need to get the music right as went from lovely Christmas songs to Michael Jackson....if you have the Christmas feel I'd stick to tempo of Christmas songs....but fab place to be and I would book in advance.
Perfect for celebration meal after our daughter’s graduation around the corner at the Minster
Good warm. 20 minute wait for dessert told it would be 2 minutes waited another 10 .
I loved guy Fawkes inn, was a brilliant place, links to history, beer and food was excellent. Service was great along with the ambience.
Great venue, lovely food, service was very good, the only thing which let it down was the music; the playlist changed from oldies Christmas songs to 80's indie songs to modern day RnB music and on occasions, there was no music on, so the restaurant was in silence. I would recommend the Guy Fawkes Inn to friends but the music was the only downside.
Disappointing that chicken for Sunday lunch was off. Vegetable and gravy portions very small. Rosy potatoes were hard and undercooked. Nut roast which replaced chicken was very dry. Drinks and Yorkshire pudding were fine. Service was good.
Had a lovely Sunday lunch, roast beef and roast pork were amazing - as was the sticky toffee pudding!
Great food and perfect portions, staff really friendly. Service quick and requests swiftly felt with, well done all
Excellent Sunday lunch. Very courteous and efficient staff. Lovely atmosphere. Near faultless.
Brilliant restaurant. The food was delicious and really good value for money. Lovely serving staff who were very friendly.
Will definitely visit again and would highly recommend
Lovely quirky pub, quiet atmosphere and relaxed.Candlelight setting (but with battery operated candles which was a bit disappointing), didnt have to wait long for food. Food was good but expected a bit better from a rosette restaurant, starter was bland and very salty, main course was also very rich and salty, couldnt eat it all. Was reasonably priced though. We had the sausage and mash and the steak pie, some vegetables would have been nice on the side too. Would return but more suited to a casual pub meal then a special occassion.
Food was delicious. Staff friendly. Atmosphere was great.
Amazing ambience and even more amazing food , service in a timely manner
Thoroughly enjoyed the Guy Fawkes Steak Pie as featured on TV with Greg Wallace.
The staff were very friendly and efficient .
Delicious Sticky Toffee Pudding
Excellent food and a good pint. Very characterful surroundings, if a little on the dark side with subdued lighting. The service was fantastic.
