Grand Central Oyster Bar
The oysters were delicious. The waiter was attentive. Service was prompt.
Great service, historic restaurant. Great food, but ofcourse its pricey.
Staffs are kind and know recommended menu well.
Oysters are yummy!
Classic old New York spot. High quality and freshest oysters and fish around. So much fun!
We ate in the Saloon.
Gazpacho was great.
The stews and pan roasts are always delicious.
Such a great NY establishment.
The menu has a great variety of seafood options. The meals were wonderfully prepared and presented and tasted great. The wait staff was not as attentive as I would have liked. The ambience of the dining room is amazing.
Haven’t been here in years. But glad we decided at the last minute to come to the Oyster Bar. Love the room and the history; our server was friendly and very attentive. Oysters and clams excellent; oyster stew as we remembered. Key lime pie sinful.
Love the atmosphere. Need to always order lobster roll. My favorite. Beat wait staff ever. Front desk could use some training in being welcoming however. Too busy talking to each other and texting.
Food was outstanding! Had a variety of oysters for an appetizer and as a meal enjoyed shrimp & scallops w/ fettuccine. The restaurant was very crowded and the noise level was extremely high and hard to talk at the table. Other than that the service was great and I would highly recommend!
Best lobster in the City! Service is informal but very efficient and friendly
This was a celebratory meal for our family and having been to the GC Oyster Bar numerous times I knew I could count on the food being good. What I didn't realize was that if we were seated just behind the host desk, as we were, the noise level would be so severe that my son just two seats away and across from me simply wouldn't be able to hear the conversation we were trying to have on my end of the table. As always, the food was great. The server, who we'd had before, is a great guy, but busy, so there were a few times when I felt that we were waiting a bit longer than we might've at a different restaurant or time of the day here. That's the only reason for the 4 stars for service rather than 5 stars. The price point for what you get food-wise is very fair for NYC (I am born and raised here). I will say, however, that the drinks are inconsistent in terms of value. The Manhattans were generous for the price as they were served with an additional portion on the side, but the Margaritas are small (I've never seen a margarita served in such a small glass) and without the extra pour that the Manhattans had. That seemed like a strange disparity to me. Desserts are not this place's forte. This is the second time I've been with a group that has ordered desserts and found them to be not to our liking. The exception on our evening, however, was the rice pudding, which we all agreed was the winner. Probably won't order dessert here again, but I will surely be back - though more than likely for lunch rather than dinner.
As is usually the case, the food was exceptionally good! My friend, visiting from Europe, proclaimed the oysters to be the best he had anywhere in the world. My fried tempura shrimp were outstanding. All in all, it is easily worth the price!
Great service ! Very accommodating . Food was ok
The quality of the food is outstanding. Tables for 2 are very tight if you are sharing Oysters but manageable. The server we had was outstanding and very pleasant also giving us good suggestions on food. The noise level made conversation difficult but not the dining experience by far exceeded the noise inconvenience.
A good evening
Always a go to place. You know what to expect. It's not cheap, but I always feel like it is worth the cost.
Eine große Enttäuschung: die Austern schmecken nicht gut, die Tomatensaucen passen nicht dazu, der Humer war trocken und klein
The Oysters were excellent but the place is old and a little tired
Very surprised no female wait staff. I did ask why and was told they prefer to work behind the bar- of which I saw none. Dodge City!! Our waiter was lovely but barely spoke English. I got the soft shell crab which was soggy and not crispy on the outside- beautiful place but would not recommend to anyone really as can get much better food elsewhere in the city if you’re paying that price
Average food, nothing special
We met three out of state visitors at Grand Central Terminal's Oyster Bar for Saturday night dinner. They were very accommodating in allowing us to move to their Saloon dinning area. The staff was attentive, courteous and friendly. The food was outstanding, especially the oysters. I would definitely recommend the Grand Central Oyster Bar to all.
Bouillabaisse has terribly overcooked lobster and manhattan clam chowder was lukewarm and had almost no clams-a pureed, appealing version. Very disappointed
My partner and I where so disappointed , we flew from London and made it our first treat of the trip ... my partner ordered prawns and pasta in a greasy broth that just tasted of the herb “ Sage “ !! ... and I had fried clams .... that wasn’t all that !! ... so basically , paid £100 for 2 mains and a bottle of wine ... a totall rip off and will never go back again as it was the worst part of our trip
Poor service food served lukewarm and lacking in flavour no gaps in between courses made me think food was just standing waiting to be be served up. Definitely wouldn’t go back
Service was excellent. I found a few of the oysters really disappointing. I ordered mostly West Coast (as I always do) but they didn't seem quite as fresh and delicious as usual. The waiter suggested I supplement with Malpeque, and they were outstanding. The most disappointing were the Snookum (I think that's the name) . . . My friend's salmon looked good but possibly a bit overcooked in my view; still, she enjoyed it thoroughly. Cole slaw was great, and the glass of Gavi was, too.
Service slow, although not very busy. Scallops were over cooked. Lobster was very over cooked. Hard to eat.
Bad value for the price.
Where to start? The decor was bizarre, beautiful vaulted ceilings but table cloths, table and chairs that looked like they were rescued from the cake stall at a village fair. We were met and seated quite quickly and ordered our food and drinks. Our first course was clam chowder which was quite tasty although we were given two packets of what we took to be croutons that we had to open. Why weren't they served in a little bowl? Whilst we were still finishing off the chowder however the server then bought our main courses. He then proceeded to push the empty table next to ours against our table and placed our mains on that table leaving us to finish off our chowder whilst our mains went cold. Our main courses were jumbo shrimp with tomatoes and mozzarella cheese. Very bland, the shrimps so cold to be tasteless. Then fried Bedford sea scallops with tarter sauce and French fries. The scallops were very poor, rubbery, the batter very oily, the tarter sauce served in a big bowl with no finesse and what had to be the worst French fries in New York. The best though was yet to come. We asked for our check and as I was paying by credit card when I signed the receipt I struck a line through the 'tip' section. The server took away the receipt but then rushed back to the table and asked why we hadn't left a tip. I explained that I prefer to tip in cash but only where the meal and service deserves a gratuity. He scurried away then stood with another server looking at us, obviously talking about us and making us feel uncomfortable. We got up and left the restaurant and no, we didn't leave a tip. So if you're thinking of dining here one word of advice. Don't.
I had to ask for my tab after waiting awhile. Waiter did not ask if I wanted a refill on my soda but when I did so he said that was an additional charge to which I replied not a problem.
Excellent seafood restaurant with many selections centrally located where one can conduct a quiet business conversation as long as you reserve a table in the saloon area along the back wall. Otherwise, the open area main dining room can get pretty noisy.
The staff was very unpleasant. We waited 45 minutes for our mediocre meals and then I had a glass shard in my salad! I would never go back.
Shellfish platter is a dream come true
over-rated, overly expensive considering the food was just okay. the seafood in City Island taste better
The GCS Oyster Bar never fails to impress. Extremely fresh seafood, excellent desserts, and wonderful wait staff. Extraordinary old world service. Love the Oyster Bar.
good a little expensive noisy the deco of the place is classic
Food is sub par, it’s gotten pretty cheesy in the ambiance. Waiter was slow and only came by once to ask us if we needed more drinks. Oysters are still good, everything else is blah. Couldn’t hear our conversations because it was so loud.
Food was amazing. Menu selection was huge! Restaurant was a bit noisey. Our server did sing for a birthday which was cute!
It is a very nice place. Food is very good and service too. The only thing is that the restrooms are hidden and customers have to walk thru three sections and finally jump into several tables of the last saloon, to finally arrive to the restrooms.
Very disappointing food. Dry fish. First time we’ve been disappointed, maybe it’s because it’s late August and it’s hard to have good people in the kitchen. The service was very good and professional....an expensive disappointment
Great location and excellent food. Would definitely recommend
