Grand Central Oyster Bar
What Insiders Are Saying
Grand Central Oyster Bar is a legendary, Classic NYC Establishment located inside Grand Central Station. There ain’t another place like this in the world, and unless you commute from Westchester everyday, it can be easily forgotten. Don’t let that happen.
I’ve been to this restaurant many times. This was the first time that the service was just awful. Surly waiter who we could not find most of the time. Every time we had to search for him. Also, the restaurant was very smoky.
It’s going to be awhile before I can go back but it was formerly one of my favorite spots!
A classic venue, with an outstanding choice of seafood, particularly – thankfully – the oysters. Not cheap, but not bad considering the location and history. Excellent Bloody Marys too.
Pricey but the food is superb! Service is good with familiar waiters (several years later I had the same waiter).
The shrims and the squid were tasteles. Too expensive for tasteless food. The oyster were very good instead
Food with poor preparation. The place need a renovation and cleaning. The staff, dispite kind, need a shake up.
Our waitstaff is the most friendly & helpful person ever. Jim! Thank you so much for your suggestion. We got the key lime pie & oyster! We couldn’t ask more. We will come back again soon!
Food was good. Selection was great. Not intimate dining as it’s just huge. Enjoyed it. Not sure I would go back
Food was very good. The staff was helpful. I’ve never tried raw oysters before, and they made it much less daunting experience. I ordered the monkfish with bearnaise sauce. Excellent! Although it seemed pricey, it’s in a Manhattan restaurant, after all.
Not aging well. Very loud. Bathrooms were fair condition but considering price should be better.
A fun time before going to see a show. NYC institution. Loud, but fun.
Twice I have ordered combination stew, and honestly it was the reason I came on Friday with my friend - just to introduce her your best dish. Unfortunately, this time our plate was almost empty. I barely can find some sea food. It was in a big contrast with my previous experience. I hope it was just a bad coincidence. Otherwise, I love your place.
I enjoyed my meal at the Grand Central Oyster Bar, but I wasn't really there for the food. I could have enjoyed better meals in one of many dozens of other restaurants in the vicinity (although I'm not going to complain about a fresh Maine lobster). What is irreplaceable is the central location, the history, and the ambience of eating in such a lovingly preserved tradition. A great spot to meet up with friends and slurp back some oysters.
Service was not great, server offered cheese for seafood pasta 😖. Portion of fried calamari was super small.
Great selection of oysters. Bread, rolls, and crackers are also to die for!
AJ was our server and he was probably the best server we have EVER had at a restaurant! Very kind, personable and helpful with selecting items on the menu. We will definitely be coming back! Go ahead and give him one hell of a raise!
Birthday / traveling
One of my very favourite Manhattan eateries. I love the ambience, but the food can be a bit hit and miss. I ate lunch two consecutive days, the first the Oyster Rockefellers came almost cold. The second day they were hot as they should be and really delicious. A lobster roll the first day disappointed - served in a roll that claimed to be a brioche but was unlike anything I have every known a brioche to be before - and I found the flavour unpleasant. But a great soft shell crab and spinach salad the next day. The staff are always pretty attentive and the place has a truly unique style and ambience.
The entire experience was ruined bu the server. Errors in orders, wrong number of oysters in a plate, received something we did not order, no interest whatsoever in explaining anything, our sides arrived once we were done with oysters, we were told it was the kitchen fault or that we did not order properly. The worst was with one of us with alergies who received an overcooked bland sole and her appertiser 1:25 after ordering when everyone else was done with their meal. No excuses from the waiter. The manager apologized and did not charged our friend for her meal and gave us one of our plates. That we appreciated. Unfortunately, the waiter experience still made it the worst 90.09$ experience we had and we left thinking this was our last visit.
A long-standing and traditional favorite in NYC that never disappoints. Huge selection of VERY fresh shell fish from every imaginable source. No frills. Just great seafood prepared perfectly in a very special red-checkered table cloth setting at Grand Central Terminal. A bit noisy, but, hey, this is NYC!
I requested a table along the wall as it is quieter. No deal
A classic restaurant in the most incredible building in Manhattan! A must for anyone to experience at least once.
Very reliable old warhorse and always a pleasure. New England chowder to die for
Alcuni piatti buoni altri nella media. Prezzi del cibo nella media di NY, vino carissimo. Hanno una lista enorme. Servizio veloce che non dispensa un sorriso, tutti coerentemente freddi e musoni.
Birthday treat but a little disappointed
The Grand Central Oyster bar was over all around 3 stars the only thing my family and I enjoyed were the oysters the main dishes on the other hand were overpriced for the expense . The service was very short and unwelcoming but very fast so if your going just for oyster s then this is the place for you
Very good place. Good service . Top quality food. The only problem iscthat it's a bit too noisy. Worth going there.
Un lugar único en Nueva York y el mundo. Estás comiendo dentro de Grand Central en un sitio muy antiguo con gran tradición y comida muy buena.
Lo visito en cada viaje
Beautiful atmosphere, friendly waiter, food excellent, highly recommended. oysters was amazing..
Food and atmosphere is old school and comfortable. Priced astronomically too high.
The OB never fails. Most places scorch and/or burns fried oysters, but not the OB. Staff is professional
and thoughtful. The menu never changes and I know I'll be happy with whatever I order.
Great oyster selection and a vibrant bustling atmosphere.
I like to seat at the tables next to the kitchen. More casual and superb service. Next to the bar. It's a table with a server or two in the center. The food is great.
Old school traditional restaurant in Grand Central train station
This is a classic restaurant. We were a party of 6, and were in a relatively quiet part of the space, but it was still fairly noisy. The servers were courteous and helpful, but the food was slow to arrive. There is a very large selection of fish and seafood. We all ordered fish.. It was not bad, but it was not great. I have eaten there previously, and the food was better. The prices are fairly high. If the fish dishes had been better I would say it was worth it, but considering the quality, I felt it was overpriced.
Very nice lunch. Oysters were huge- just what my friend wanted. Clam chowder was excellent, as was the herring special. Salad Nicoise was not exactly to my friend’s liking, but he ate much of it unenthusiastically nevertheless. Salad with cod, beets and tomatoes was very good, but the cod could have used salt. For dessert we ordered coconut layer cake to share and had to send it back because it was so cold and hard and pretty tasteless. Service was excellent and the atmosphere is always great at the tables (usually we feel a bit more rushed and the service is more impersonal at the counter, so we prefer a reservation for a table when we can). So, overall it wasn’t a 5 star experience, but we’ll be back, for sure.
The food and service were ok. Nothing great. We enjoyed the fresh oysters, but our main courses were just ok. I
Service was very bad, food was messed up twice and we only ordered two items, ended up giving up on the second item after waiting so long. Ambiance was okay but food and service not good. Plus the Herring festival was a joke - it was only a few herring specials that they added to the menu - not an actual festival - false marketing.
The oysters were delicious and the service was great!
Great oysters, okay service and a fantastic location
This was exactly what we expected: excellently prepared fresh fish, served professionally.
The oysters were the only good thing about this dinner. I have been about a year ago and I would say the service, the food and the overall atmosphere was much better. The restaurant has gone completely downhill. The food was sub par to say the least. The only redeeming quality of our meal last night were the oysters
