Grand Central Oyster Bar
Manhattan Clam Chowder
New York Cheesecake
Unfortunately the place was practically empty due to Coronavirus fears. Service was great. We got the shellfish medley- delicious. My husband had the Sea scallops- he loved them. I had the swordfish special with lime cilantro butter. I couldn’t taste either the lime or cilantro. I give it a B+. Thanks
Service and food was great!
I’ve been coming here for 30 years. But when I ask for my fries to be crispy, I don’t expect to get the regular fries. Coupled with the last visit incident with the front manager, I think The Oyster Bar needs to fix its attitude. My sense is that they think they are dealing with tourists, can just be haute to many people. Not sure why the managers there are not on too of it, but I’ve known the same cashier for 35 years there and let him know. It’s been a disappointing last few visits.
neversw the restaurant so empty for lunch. Made for quiet dining and great service, albeit the circumstaces were quite sad.
It was my daughter's birthday and they were so sweet. Everyone said happy birthday to her. The shrimp were probably the biggest I have ever seen. It gives the word colossal a whole new meaning. I usually don't go with the evening special at a restaurant but I did this time and it was excellent! The grouper was large and tender. Delicious! My daughter got the scallops and there were so many! More than any other restaurant ever. I was very pleased with everything. I will be back!
I have been the the Grand Central Ouster Bar many times. This meal was as good as any I have had there. The food was well prepared and fresh and the service was wonderful. My only regret was the my favorite oysters Belon Wild from Maine had been sold out earlier in the day.
The shrimp were over cooked
Delicious Seabass and lobster! We also loved the fried oyster appetizer! The server was very friendly and even brought over the lobster to The table. They also offered to de shell lobster for us!
What a great meal! I ordered the grilled, whole bronzino. It had olive oil, capers and lemon on it and it was absolutely delicious! My husband had the oyster pan roast, a legendary dish! Our waiter, Jose, was professional, knowledgeable and pleasant. The wine list is very good. The place is beautiful, the ceiling tiles and lighting are great. We will definitely be back.
My group and I enjoyed the food and atmosphere. We liked the the nostalgic feeling the place gives off. The bathrooms could use an update and cleaning. I don't expect graffiti and unpleasant conditions in a $$$ rated restaurant.
What a great time we had. Classic NYC venue, old school staff, what a gem.
Jim was our waiter and he was fantastic. Great scallops, oysters, clam strips and New York cheesecake.
Very wide choice of fresh fish and seafood. Good oysters and well cooked fish.
Everything was very good but the noise level was a problem. There were four of us at the table and we could speak only with the person next to us, by leaning in.
Oh my God.....if you like oysters, this is your place! The best of the best with such a variety to choose from. Amazing. Our waitperson was very knowledgeable and very helpful. I don't know about the rest of the food but the oysters were GREAT!!
Completely undistinguished fried food, overpriced and in a noisy environment.
It was great
I have eaten at the Grand Central Oyster Bar many, many times and I have always had wonderful, well-prepared food and a nice selection of wines and fresh oysters to choose from.
My last visit was with a first timer from London who marveled over the selections of oysters available (we had the Belon Wild from Maine and Bluepoints) and the freshness of his entrée (he had sea bass). He also was very impressed with the architecture and setting.
So it was nice to have confirmation from a new comer that the restaurant is as wonderful as I think it is.
Great old place with fresh oysters and good reliable food. It's a bit pricey but it's a convenient location. If the oysters were cheaper I would visit more.
Terrific oysters with a terrific selection. Martinis of any sort filled to the brim plus some in an extra glass that didn't fit. Rolls were to die for and my tuna on arugula salad was perfect. It was our first visit to the Oyster Bar and we'll be back! Love that Times Square Shuttle that makes it easy-peasy before any matinee rain or shine.
Brought out of town guests and they absolutely loved it. Food and service were first rate, as usual, and the unique architecture and ambiance were a big hit. We were lucky that it was a Tuesday as we were able to have the Tuesday-only She Crab Soup, which was delicious. Always love going to this place.
Have not been there in aw
The food was great. We were disappointed because the waiter never brought us the smoked trout we ordered. We really wanted to try it. We had to go to catch a show so it wasn't possible for us to wait. Another waiter brought someone elses meal to us as well. The food we did get was very good and I'd still recommend it.
Much lower than our expectations. The food was bad. Lots of sand and shell pieces in baked oysters. Waiters are unfriendly and inattentive. Interior is not cosy and not good looking. The place is historical and this is the only reason to visit it.
Fried calamari was just so so. Have had better at fast food places. The fish and chip were average at best. Seating was drafty. Service was mediocre. But I can at least cross it off my list.
Grand Central Oyster Bar is classic NY. Pan Roasts and other standbys are the way to go.
Amazing Oysters, only thing the enter the dragon martini had little or no triple sec was very strong, overall a great place to go in NYC
Overpriced. Little value for what you get.
The best thing about this restaurant is the location and the oysters are also very good. The service is terrible. Our waiter placed two glasses of wine down on our table that we didn’t order and he left them there for a good five minutes before realizing they went to another table. He then returned to our table, retrieved them, and gave them to a couple two tables down from us. Yikes. I had ordered a glass of wine myself and literally was about to take a sip of the glass he had set down (thinking maybe he assumed I wanted a second glass,) and he takes it away. Very weird!
Glad to see old classics never die! Amazing fresh fish and shellfish. Great selection of oysters. Place is a time capsule! Highly recommend!
Had chowder followed by the seafood platter. Both delicious.
Phenomenal seafood in a beautiful, classic atmosphere!
Very good. Good vibes and good food. The waiter was very nice and helpful.
Good lively place, super building and large range on menu.
Such a quintessential NYC restaurant. If you're flying solo or with the friend, have a seat at the oyster bar!! You can see the magic happen up close. Coming with a group, grab a table and enjoy old NYC in beautiful Grand Central Station!
I love bringing friends from out of town to this NYC institution as it always makes for great memories. I love the old school waiters and the menu has such a varied selection that there’s something for everyone. I hope it never changes because there’s so few places left that still encapsulate “authentic New York” like this!
Our initial order at 5:30 was forgotten twice and finally received at 6:30 w/remainder of order. Food was unremarkable, overly rich and pricey. Have been going for years (primarily with out oft owners) but it has steadily declined.
Service was absolutely terrible; the food was mediocre at best; and the noise level was very loud
Great oysters, wonderful seared tuna, generous win pours. We had a musician with us and requested quick delivery on his food which worked out great, however our food took about 30 minutes to be delivered. It was fine since we arrived at 5:30 before an 8 pm show, but longer than it should have taken.
Everything was perfect apart from
The food took over an hour to arrive
