The best deep dish pizza i have ever had!
We were seated upstairs and the place had a foul stench to it. It wasn't crowded at all, but it was 5pm on a weekday, so maybe it's busier on weekends and later in the evening. Our biggest complaint was that the pizza crust was burnt. Kind of the point in coming to a Chicago deep dish pizza place is the pizza crust, so we were very disappointed. My draft beer was close to room temperature. Skip Ginos and go to Lou Malnati's.
The food was good. The staff was very good but the smell of the place was so bad I just about lost my appetite.
We came in at 3 PM on a Sunday with a group of 11 people for a special occasion. We had a nice time overall. The food wasn’t as good as my other experiences with Gino’s East. We felt the pizza was a little overdone. Overall, we still enjoyed ourselves.
Thanks Gino’s East for making my daughter’s first taste of deep dish Chicago pizza a great experience. She’s been talking about trying deep dish for weeks and you did not disappoint. Her sausage/bacon/pepperoni pizza was perfect and you were even able to scrounge up some carrots for a side. The roasted brussel sprouts were surprisingly good and my wife loved her minestrone soup. All around a great meal!
The TVs were so loud. Too loud to visit with my colleague.
The anti pasta salad were drowned in oil... way too much.
The pizza lacked cheese, light and the crust was very tough. It was ok.
The server who brought the food, delivered to the wrong table.
The Pilsner was not cold.
I had to ask for more water twice.
Kinda bummed, to be honest.
Food was good but there are several other Chicago establishments I would choose over Gino’s.
First visited Gino's in 1974, last visit before today was about 7 years ago.
Ambiance, bar none da best, love all the graffiti.
Pizza was just ok. I remember the buttery crust being a lot better, but the pan sausage was really good
Ginos is usually my favorite when I come into town but this time around was different. First, the staff up front was rude and not welcoming as I tried to check in for my reservation. Waiter came around every 20 minutes and forgot drinks, utensils, and food. The food was par at best with being semi warm. The waiter then messed up the three tickets at the end. Three times. It was not a good experience. I will go again, but it really put Ginos down on the list for me now.
I’m new to Chicago and have recently decided that deep dish is not for me. Gino’s East is the best deep dish I’ve had so far- I wouldn’t mind coming back here. It’s not fancy just causal pizza place- I would recommend for families and people visiting the city. bonus, you can make a reservation. something not all deep dish places let you do (cough cough Lou malnati’s).
They got us in after a short 10-15 minutes wait. Our pizza was cold, the toppings were very little. We also ordered chips and artichoke dip with was very dry and warm at best.
Haven’t had deep dish in forever but when in Rome...all the servers were wonderful and helped entertain my toddler. Pizza was yummy. Prices were a little steep but probably not out of the ordinary.
Pizza and salads were good, service was a bit slow for a Sunday night at 830pm. The restaurant was SO cold we could barely stand it. We asked if they could turn down the air but by the time it was, we were almost finished.
The service was extremely poor. We had to remind the waitress so many times for water. We had made a reservation yet had to wait for a table. The place was noisy. The pizzas took more than an hour to arrive. The pizzas were good but the overall experience destroyed the pizza taste.
BEST PIZZA IN CHICAGO! The cornmeal crust is AMAZING!!
We enjoyed our meal. Service and food were great! We had lunch there early in the day so can’t comment on bar ambiance.
I was in from out of town and the Lyft driver recommended Gino’s as one of the top deep dish options in the city. I was not disappointed.
Love it here! Great pizza! Great comedy!
Pizza was pretty good but not the best I’ve ever had. Large booths, nice atmosphere for dinner with friends and great service. Had the hamburger and fries pizza which was unique and good. Margarita pizza sauce had great flavor but the pie wasn’t anything special.
Service is very friendly but much too slow. Food is ok. I don't want to come back again.
Friendly and personable
Good service, typically good deep dish.
Fun place for a group of 10 including 3 kids. Nice to be able to have a reservation and enjoyed the deep dish pizza on our first night in Chicago!
Great food and an awesome place to stay a while and hang out with friends
Our first experience with Chicago style pizza. The Waitress was very helpful and helped direct our choice. We loved everything. We want to go back!
Food is good, but took 2hrs to come out with waiting staff making false promises on timing.
Poor service - waitress seemed overwhelmed by too many tables. Pizza was average at best. Chicago tradition, but really now more of a tourist trap. Many better options for deep dish pizza throughout the city. Not awful, but definitely not worth the price or poor service. We won't be back.
Food was overpriced big time took forever to get to the table. I could understand the wait if it was good but hell i would have been better off at pizza hut and been way cheaper
The place is cute on the inside. We were seated upstairs as we were a party of 6. The server came right over and took our drink order. Drinks came quickly along with our appetizer. Unfortunately our pizza order was wrong and it takes 20-30 minutes for a Deep dish pizza. So...we had one pizza that we did order and a 2nd we didn’t order while we waited for the correct one to cook. The 2 pizzas we had were also barely warm. I don’t know if they had been sitting for a long time but not hot at all. By the time the original pizza came everyone was full. The food tasted good but didn’t enjoy as much being lukewarm. I probably won’t go back. I am guessing other pizza places in Chicago will do a better job.
We visit here for the first dinner every time we are in Chicago (1-2x per year) because it’s the best deep dish in town and they brew their own beer. We’ve been known to hang out and eat and drink while watching a full Cubs game on their televisions.
This time, they didn’t have their own beers because their “boiler exploded” or something. The beer selection was so limited and the waiter just kind of giggled about the situation and couldn’t really name what they did have. He seemed to want to rush us through our meal. We were prepared to hang out for a while too.
It was, by far, the most disappointing experience and service we’ve had. It was only once, so we’ll try at our next trip. I’m just not hoping it’s the sign of a decline of our favorite Chicago restaurant.
Love the food and the people are nice. My only complaint is that they would not normally accommodate ordering a Deep Dish ahead of time for a party of 4 people who were on a tight schedule but wanted to eat in the restaurant. I would happily pay in advance for this ability. Thankfully, it’s not that often. If a crew only gets an hour lunch, they are probably spending more than half that time waiting on the Deep Dish.
Check in was delayed and beer order was wrong. Bill took a long time to arrive after we were done. Food was spot on. Probably short staffed due to holiday weekend.
Great food, good advice about beer, good service. Would go back again.
Set this as a special dinner for some business associates that had never had Chicago style pizza. The wait staff was as bad as I’ve ever had and the pizza was cold and not edible. Very disappointed in what was once one of my favorites.
Great pizza with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. On-site micro brewery makes great beer as well.
Only a few Gino’s beers on
Yum! Delicious deep dish pizza! The spinach margarita was perfection. We had great friendly service from Mark. He gave good recommendations on their beer. The Caesar salad was wonderful-try the spicy one- it has just the right amount of spice!
Great food! I ate here years ago on my first trip to Chicago and had to come back. It did not disappoint!
They did not honor my 2-person reservation, so we had to sit at the bar. Will not be dining here again
Excellent pizza and service. Great atmosphere. Cost is a bit high but still worth the trip!
