On the rural banks of the River Thames, in the quintessential London neighbourhood of Richmond, sits our iconic boathouse restaurant and waterside terrace, which in the summer hosts another of our ‘Asado’ outdoor barbeques. A striking centre piece of our terrace boasts one of London’s oldest Plane trees, a beautiful feature for arguably one of London’s most sought-after alfresco dining spots.
With our panoramic glass-paneled exterior we have glorious 360-degree views of Richmond Bridge and Petersham Meadows from our well-dressed dining-room and bar. An idyllic location for those long weekend lunches after a dog-walk in Richmond Park or for gathering the family and friends to celebrate those special occasions.
So, when you next take a stroll along the towpath, join us for an unforgettable steak, sampling our superb Argentinian beef and British seafood, or relax at the bar with a glass of wine and watch the boats sail by.

The steaks were good, the chips were very average. The service was pretty poor - slow and the serving staff didn’t have the best grasp of English. It’s definitely gone downhill in recent times.
Table for 4 pax was too small for the food ordered and sides and also very tight to the next table
The chips could be of better quality and not over fried. The vegetables yes its nice to have it cooked and still crunchie but rock hard under cooked really spoilt the perfect steak. The starters we had was really nice and the steaks was cooked to perfection.
deal was fantastic value and would definitely recommend
Everything about this place was excellent. From the greeting when you walk through the door, right through the attentive and knowledgeable waiting staff, and the excellent steaks. Look forward to revisit.
It was a pleasant experience, I have given 3 stars because of poor salad selection, steaks were very very good, you need to have better salad selection.
Ceviche starter was odd, not what I was expecting. I had this in your London restaurant a few years ago and it was amazing. This one was odd - a tomato sauce of some sort in it? Didn't work and not pleasant. The sirloin was tough and chewy. On the upside, the Yellowtail was excellent and the ribeye very good.
Still the best Gaucho,
We had a large party of 17 where we were celebrating our new EMEA President along with his management team. Standard process prevailed; arrive and greeted with a generous smile by Daniel, Natalia and Maria. It doesn’t get any better than this. These people “love their job and live the patrons that frequent Gaucho”. We started with drinks at the bar where our “normal wine” was being chilled inn advance of our reservation.... perfect temperature. Mingled for 30 minutes and then went to our table. Maria was incredible with serving ALL of us and never waiting or wanting anything! Both Daniel and Natalia frequented the table making sure everything was perfect. Night ended with amazing desert “Don Pedro” which is amazing! We stayed 4 hours talking, eating, drinking and enjoying the night with colleagues and Gaucho staff. Another perfect night!!!
Best steak I’ve ever had! And that peppercorn sauce, just wow!
My husband and I have visited Gaucho Richmond several times before and this time, took advantage of the OpenTable offer. We were not disappointed with the quality of the food. Even when the weather is grey, the location by the river doesn't fail to please. I had the asparagus starter and the chorizo steak.
Wonderful food, drink and service and great location
Excellent service and incredible food. The ambience is amazing too. I’d definitely recommend and can’t wait to go back
Really friendly staff. Great location excellent food.
Normally love our experience at Gaucho, have been a number of times before. But this time we got forgotten about by our waitress & our starter arrived before our drinks. Then with our main meal, mashed potato was served cold & we received another mash, but that was also cold, just a little disappointed this time.
The terrace area at Gaucho Richmond on a sunny day is excellent. The food was great, as always, and the staff were very friendly. 10/10
Another great meal at Gaucho Richmond. The venue is simply fabulous and is further enhanced when the sun is shining and you get seated on the terrace overlooking The Thames.
The service was brilliant and the food was perfection, thank you.
Probably the best steak I have ever had.
Waiters very knowledgeable about the food and wine and very attentive to everything you need. Definitely coming again and maybe during the day to eat outside for the views.
Gaucho is a fantastic place to sit by the river, sip some excellent Argentine malbec, and enjoy excellent food! Yes, it is expensive, but the quality of the food, drink and ambience make it worth the price. We did have quite a wait for our initial drinks, but our server/waitress more than made up for that by giving us our dessert free of charge! That just doesn't happen very often in London area restaurants. We had also been given an amazing table at river's edge by the manager, who greeted us as we entered, and was there to wish us a good evening when we departed. We shall return!!
Food is nice, menu does need a bit of work on the presentation part and the prices are too high for what you get. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly.
We had a lovely evening celebrating our daughter's birthday. Everything was perfect; lovely service, food and atmosphere. We look forward to going back.
The staff were fantastic and helped me propose in style!
Fabulous service and great food. Got a little crowded but still a wonderful evening. Thanks.
I have been to Gaucho’s several times, never disappointed. The only small thing was the server kinda forgot us a couple times, but that was minimal. I especially like the server to be there after the main is server to explain the different cuts of beef in the sample plate. Also like them to check in after we are done so I don’t have to look for them to get the check, so I don’t have to look around and ask someone to send the server. Overall, excellent!
As always a delight! Love all the Gaucho's but Richmond is super relaxed.
Great food and location was perfect!
We had a lovely time for a birthday celebration. It was relatively quiet to begin with but the restaurant soon filled up. Had delicious food and great service so we'll definitely be back
Gauchos was a great choice. I
We had a nice size party of (8), walked in with a reservation and greeted with a big smile from Natalia the hostess. Enjoyed a drink at the bar served from a very pleasant bartender. Our Malbec wine was "already chilled" to our liking! They know how to serve their customers! We had a great round table that was perfect to engage the entire group in the conversation. Maria (the best server in the Gaucho network) was pleasant, attentive and very efficient with our table again! Our new guests felt great with a fabulous meal, piping hot and delicious. Chefs are wonderful and the food comes out at the same time, every time! See you again soon!!
Great food , the steak was amazing
We shared the Galliciano steak and it was delicious, with very tasty sides. The dulce do leche cheesecake is a must as well! It's a bit pricey...but good for a special occasion.
Service was slow and sometimes felt they had forgot us
Food and service not in line with the prices charged. Positives; great location, nice atmosphere. Negatives; some dishes quite tasteless, wine by glass VERY small (must be less that 125ml even), allows dogs into an upper end restaurant (very unhygienic and unsustainable to hear barking as you eat)
Another terrific meal and dining experience! The weather was wonderful so we ate outside on the terrace. Greeted with smiles throughout the restaurant. Enjoyed a drink at the bar before going to our table. Conversed with the host and bartenders. Daniel and Angelica were warm and friendly. Maria was outstanding as usual with her prompt and professional service. Food was delicious and timely from an outstanding kitchen crew. We were greeted by Jorge, Senior General Manager who thanked us for our business and made sure the night was aligned Gaucho standards and our expectations. Great place and always a pleasurable experience.
Well. Each time I take a TimeOut voucher there, the staff are either confused or treat you like a Criminal (or both) thinking you’re stealing steak.
The first time I took a voucher there, the food was great and there was plenty of choice on the ‘TimeOut menu’ but was treated like a convict.
This time, there were no choices on the menu and a steak had to be shared! And the steak was up to their usual standards. Standards dropping?
Upon entry, you’re greeted with 4 staff and 100 unwashed dirty glasses on the bar (with one staff cleaning them).
Ok, so it’s bank holiday and they are busy, but it’s not like the sunny weather wasn’t planned!?
Then of course all patrons want to sit outside - in the shade. It’s a hot day. But the sun is strong. There were no garden umbrellas so the sunny tables were all empty...more than half the tables outside. And people waiting inside.
Again, the sunny weather had been forecast for some time. The simple German place down the river has brollies.
Come on Gaucho, you can do better.
We went for lunch on bank holiday Monday. Our initial waiter, a greek guy, was very welcoming and helpful. Unfortunately my friend's glass had lipstick residue on it and we asked another waitress to replace it. We waited a long time and had to ask another waiter for another glass. The same waitress served our food and reached across my friend to serve me instead of going to my side! We then went for a walk and returned for a drink. As we were drinking, I got splashed by a tray of glasses knocked over by the same waitress....sadly not her day. I can only hope she was new at the job. She did have however perfectly applied make up!!!
Nice place overall, but for a place that prides itself on its steaks, the cooking accuracy of these was poor. We ordered two medium rare fillet steaks, what arrived was one well done (not a trace of pink) and one maybe medium to well done weird-shaped offcut. Both were replaced on request, though the replacements were rare rather than medium rare - significant amount of uncooked meat in both. Kind of took the gloss of a nice outdoor lunch by the river.
Would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone visiting the Richmond area or looking to escape the hustle bustle of London. Excellent wine, food and service. Incredible location. Will definitely make a return visit!
Excellent service, and the meal was lovely, steaks tender and cooked beautifully.
Great food and service. Would definitely return! Great location, only shame was we couldn’t sit outdoors!
