We had the 10th anniversary celebration tasting menu with wine pairing. The food was superb: very subtle combinations of flavours, cooked to perfection. The wines selected for the wine pairing were spot on, carefully sourced from a wide variety of regions and domaines, including some quite rare finds. The service was excellent: friendly, attentive and efficient. The sommelier in particular was very knowledgeable and talked about each wine in detail. The splendid setting of this former chapel is the final thing that made this meal a special and memorable occasion. Pity about the background music: too pop, when something cooler and a bit more sophisticated would, in our view, have been more appropriate for the place - but that's a very minor detail.
Such a good restaurant - I always look forward to going there and have never been disappointed. Roast beef lunch was immaculate.
Delicious food! And amazing help choosing some great wines to pair.
food was lovely and service was attentive, however the lighting over our table was very bright and this made the table very hot. We were all sweating and it was a cool and rainy September day. Unfortunately this impacted our enjoyment of the meal.
Food and service were outstanding. It's a very hushed atmosphere though - felt like we had to whisper as the neighbouring tables were very close and the room is quiet.
We ate here to celebrate a birthday and the staff did an excellent job to make it better.
The service is fantastic; well balanced - attentive without being overbearing.
We had the 7 course tasting platter. My wife does not eat Fois Gras so we requested an alternative when booking. This was taken on board and the wine pairing matched to suit the alternative course provided. This was a pea vollute which itself was quite tasty but I felt it was not a match to the terrine it replaced in texture and din't sit well in the wider menu for me; sandwiched between lobster lasagne and basil risotto. All wet dishes. I didn't pick my knife up until course 4! A little disappointed with the quantity of egg and brioche crumb in the pea soup too -barely knew it was there. The one dessert (not including the cheese) was very tasty and a French classic, but very simple compared to the rest of the courses - not the impact I would have liked from a tasting menu.
The wine pairing with the risotto was not to our taste, but no fault of the somellier and an alternative was soon provided.
On the whole an excellent meal and and experience. I would go back for sure!
Beautiful location and building. Service was okay. Perhaps they need more staff? We selected the set three course menu and chose the chicken hotpot for mains. The mushrooms had not been cleaned properly so the food was gritty. We ate it because we were so hungry. I did mention this to our server and she didn’t do anything about it. Otherwise the food was okay.
Fantastic place. The best vegan tasting menu I have eaten. It was so good my friend (who is not vegan) chose it over the non vegan one. Incredible service, lovely venue, good selection of champagnes by the glass. Will definitely be back.
Food was fab - Sunday Toast was defo best deal on Sunday lunch menu.
Ordered the 3 course plus wine at £47 per person bill arrived at £150 for 2
Weird way of working out - as we changed desert as a supplement as agreed with waitress - then tried to say it was £9.75 each supplement deserts were £13 each on a la carte menu !
Tried to charge us for double the amount of wine 4 carafes instead of 2 - think they may have had to catty is out if we had 4 between 2!
Manager was rude and condescending - the staff were actually so lovely ...
Ruined what would have been a fantastic Sunday lunch.
Only consolation was we ended up paying far less than expected due to the manager incompetent manner.!
A special restaurant great food, service, wine and ambience
I have been to this restaurant quite a few times and the food is always good. On occassions it has been exceptional, but didn't quite make it this time, maybe my choice of dish. The staff are always friendly and professional and are on hand without being obtrusive. My one complaint is that the portions are very small, but we knew that before we went and ate a good lunch so we were not starving. The building is really beautiful and helps to make this a special evening
This is in my view the best fine dining restaurant in the northern reaches of the city. It has a great old and new feel with its high vaulted wooden roof and modern mezzanine. The menu du chef offers good value for money and I generally find just what I’m looking for on the wine list. The quality of the food really has been a constant over a number of years.
nice food and lovely service
The food was pleasant enough, and the service was fine, but the (very bland) house white, coffee and bottled water (that we did not ask for) was just too expensive. Having opted for the express lunch, which was about £34 per head, and ending up paying circa £130 for 2 was not great value.
Great food, great experience
Amazing Summer menu. Very good value summer menu for dinner including wines. It was a real privileged to be in such a fine restaurant with such a good deal. This is place of some quality with a great atmosphere very good food. Service is friendly, attentive and efficient. Definitely Michelin star level.
The service and everything was really good.
Both desserts were lack of complexity but overall still worth trying.
A lovely meal as always. Thank you again
Everything was great. The only dissappointing thing was that for a 40£ main coruse of lamb you get one cutlet, which a little silly. Although when we said this they were very understanding to our complaint and gave us puddings for free, which balanced it out for us and we really appreciated but I doubt the people who came after us will be getting three cutlets as we all should. x
Fantastic service, imaginative cuisine, exquisite setting
Lunch fixed menu was spectacular, service was wonderful, and the interior of the restaurant was very unique!
Excellent service, lovely building and great wine list. Food was generally very good apart from brioche bun in desert which was a bit too dry and over cooked. Would like to come back and try the tasting menu.
The ex-chapel is probably my favourite restaurant building, although the table we were given today wasn't the best. We had the two course set menu and I was a little concerned that I wasn't keen on the main course options, however, I had the pork belly with pommes purees and it looked and tasted fantastic. The desserts were both lovely, as were the house wines we had (one on red, one on white). And, as always, the staff were friendly and solicitous.
Fabulous service, food was divine every time I dine at galvin le chapelle I am always delighted. Big thanks to the team for making a special evening
Delicious meal, elegant setting. Fabulous staff. Thoroughly enjoyed the menu gourmand.
Excellent food and service as always! It was a nice sunny day and with the light streaming through the windows, it really gave the restaurant a lovely ambiance. The 3 course set lunch was great value. Will definitely be back again soon.
Wonderful dining place, with excellent food, wine, and staffs.
Love this restaurant and everything about it... We had a slight problem with our main course on this occasion... both chose the Cod, but it was so salty we had to send it back... chose another main course but the chef was definitively having an over the top evening with the salt...? The rest was lovely hopefully just a one off!
Most of our meal - set lunch for a friend's birthday was lovely. we are both vegetarian with different levels of fuzziness.. the food was lovely, some of it superb. the service from arrival to the end of the meal was perfect - friendly and relaxed. However, as we were leaving I remembered that the package I had bought for each of us included a recipe book. the lady on the front desk (who had been getting our coats for us) made it really difficult to get the books. she said the restaurant had not got the details of our package and acted as though I was making it up. when I eventually found the email, she tried to insist that only one of us should get the book. by this point I felt humiliated and the whole of the lovely experience had turned nasty and embarrassing. luckily her co-worker intervened and sorted it out. I don't expect to be treated so awfully anywhere, and it was particularly awful in a place like this. I have since complained, received a £50 gift certificate and redeemed it in another galvin restaurant. I would still never go back to this one. and overall I think the restaurants are overpriced for what they offer. there are better, nicer alternatives at this level.
Had a catch up lunch with a friend earlier this week. It wasn't too busy, which was great for conversing. Sea bass dish was tasty & flavoursome. And dessert (choc choux bun with blackcurrant sauce) was very pleasing too. Good deal is on for 2 courses & a glass of bubbly currently!
Food was good - but nothing to write home about. We were served bread that felt/tasted stale. When pointed out they quickly rectified it. Nice venue and good service but feels a bit stuffy.
Fantastic evening and the tasting menu was amazing!
Food was stunning, could not fault any of the dishes. Only 1 issue, two of my guests had the cheeseboard and they were not offered biscuits for the cheese at that point, she eventually came back when they were half way through the cheese.
Excellent food and wine in a beautiful setting.
The best of the Galvin restaurants. Excellent service and food. Never disappointed when I come to eat here with friends and family.
Wonderful Sunday lunch. Service was great and perfect compliment to the roast beef and raspberry soufflé
Rare for me to give this strong a star rating but it would be hard to have had a better dining experience for as reasonable a cost.
We opted for the early evening three course menu du chef - not so much to save money as by the fact that we really liked the dishes on offer.
All proved to be superb - well, perhaps the seared mackerel fillets came a notch lower!
The cremation du Saumur was more enjoyable than many a modest champagne, and the carafe of Muscadet complemented our sea bass perfectly.
Thanks to all - not least for turning down the initially intrusive music!
Menu du chef was a great deal.
