Gaby Brasserie Française
+ Convenient location for Theatre District.
+Attractive modern decor with high ceilings and spacious seating.
+ Dishes are seasonal, attractively presented and delicious!
+ Service is warm and gracious.
This venue is fairly new and doesn't seem to have the PR push of most new NY restaurants of its caliber, which may account for why it isn't as difficult to make a reservation, or as frenetically crowded, as other restaurants in the area, which, IMHO, are not as pleasant and have less enticing food.
- Restrooms are hard to locate deep in the basement.
- Prices are, well, consistent with NY Theatre District. Not a bargain, but not outrageous.
The food and servise were exceptional! The duck breast was melting in my mouth, a coctail was perfectly created and served, and a chocolate cake for dessert was very delicious with rich cacao/chocolate taste! Just perfect spot to have wonderful dinner and have a conversation with your guest(s) .
Food was ok, not great but not bad either. The service however is excellent.
I meet stayed at the Hotel for our anniversary weekend where this restaurant is located. The bar had tasty fried Oysters and enjoyable drinks The bartender was professional and welcoming, when we decided to hang there until check in. The restaurant pre- theatre menu was decent as was wait staff. The breakfast was ok nothing special; the hostess’s behavior on Saturday am 9/27 made me feel unwelcome. Acted as if talking to us and accommodating our wishes for a table not directly in front of the /door/ hostess station was too much. It was 8:30 am and not crowded, at all. Finally gave us a new table, but placed the menu down very firmly in the new table and would not speak to us . Just walked away without a word, yet later I noticed how she welcomed others differently. Maybe a bit of diversity/ inclusiveness/ implicit bias or self awareness training would help. I would stay at the hotel and visit the bar again. It’s unlikely I would eat at the restaurant because of this experience
Very average restaurant. Plenty in the theater district that are better.
Everything was perfect, they remembered to include a birthday cake with a candle just from the open table request, very impressive, will be back again many times
As usual, service and food were spot-on
Our waiter was exceptional. The food was delicious and we were able to sit for quite awhile visiting with a relative.
Very nice ambience, great service and very good food!
We ate there when the restaurant was nearly empty and it was delightful. I got the striped sea bass, which was served with asparagus and a side of clams with chorizo sausage. All were delicious, but the sea bass was memorably so. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
Really wanted to like this place based on the reviews and the proximity to my office. Went for a Monday business lunch so maybe not the best time to comment. The environment was nice, and the service was fine. Had the burrata nd tomato salad to start and it was disappointing - I may not have read the menu properly but the tomatoes were essentially 'stewed' and not the fresh tomatoes I was expecting. The burrata itself was fine. Main course salmon was way over-cooked - it had an excellent 'crust' but was done at least medium-well - the server hadn't asked our doneness preference but I would expect the default would be medium-rare - I finished it, but it was very dry and disappointing, especially given the good flavor of the exterior.
I would recommend this place however I will not be returning. I had a great experience while dining but after I had to deal with a double charge issue on my card. I called four different times and spoke to 4 different people/managers regarding the issue and no one called me back, it became so frustrating until finally on my 5th day of calling Mathew manager took my call and was very helpful in finding out what exactly happened and resolved the double charge issue. He was very apologetic and understood my frustration. Offered round of drinks if I came back, but unfortunately I will not be, once I'm put off by poor customer service I do not go back to that place. It's all about how one handles a situation and in this case it was the waiters error and it took a long time to resolve. Thank you.
Stated that we had a voucher upon arrival however, we were told after we ordered and received that we couldn't use it. I was still okay with the price, because we no problem. Only hopped the food was a little better. The service was really nice, however my entree was cold. I asked for a medium steak, it was cooked unevenly. A few pieces were well done and the remaining medium well. Paid for dessert but we did'nt stay to have it because we were running late to a Broadway show. I work around the corner so I will return and update my second visit soon.
Food was unexpectedly excellent. Very quiet. Perfect for lunchtime conversation!
Ambiance, service, food were all superb!
Great food, good portions for RW, recommend!
Best business breakfast in New York - elegant, delicious, quiet, and centrally located!
My friend and I went for the lunch during the restaurant week. The omelet was terrible. And the Crepe was a disaster. The service was perfect though.
loved the duck...great service...elegant lunch dining in west midtown and value on restaurant week...
Food was prepared wrong several times.. they finally got it right after the third time but lunch turned out to be over 2hours. Severs where nice though which is a plus and not their fault the Kitchen kept messing up
We had a wonderful lunch there during NYC Restaurant Week. Excellent selection of items; items we ordered were wonderful
Food was really good and well prepared/presented--unfortunately my steak was overcooked. And the service was OK despite bringing the wrong dessert. Quality restaurant on what I assume was an off-night.
Terrific place for lunch or dinner -- consistently excellent food in good ambience and not so well-known so never crowded
Great place to go before theatre -- not overcrowded and the food was good. My creme brule was not as good as most, but the main entree was quite tasty. Service was excellent.
Good place for breakfast and/or a business meeting.
Fast and friendly service. Delicious food. Highly recommended
Would definitely recommend The Gaby Brasserie. The dinner was great. I have dietary restrictions and they were very accommodating. Great service all round.
I used a $20 reward for my meal. Before the reward the bill was $93.66. The bill after the reward was $73.66. I left a $16 tip. When I got my credit card statement, I was charged $109.66.
A mini reunion
So disappointed. We have had brunch here a few times. The menu on the website had not changed but it is a different menu at the restaurant with less brunch choices and more expensive. So sorry because this is such a nice place to meet friends. Quiet enough to be able to have a conversation without yelling to be heard and the food was always delicious. This time the eggs in the eggs Benedict were over cooked, no loose yolks.
We dropped in for a 6:00pm dinner on a Saturday. Place was not near full which was nice as it was very quiet and peaceful. Menu is standard French Brasserie. Dishes were well executed did not show much creative flair. We did have the Pre-Fixe menu which is a very reasonable $39. Prices are generally fair and reasonable. Service was good and friendly.
This was overpriced and the food was very poor. Great disappointment. Not all bad - Waitstaff was very very nice.
Amazing food 👌. We ordered duck brest, scallops and got desert for the house!
Service was excellent. Would go back. Was a good deal with the travel zoo voucher I had. The food was good and the staff attentive.
Nice pre-theater. Varied menu, good service. Not as chaotic as many pre-theater places. Overall a very pleasant experience.
We were there for the set-price brunch and we think it was a good value for Midtown. The appetizer of fried green tomatoes with goat cheese and tomato-bacon jam was absolutely delicious: a real treat for the mouth. The avocado toast of the day with crab salad tasted very fresh, was chock full of crab, and was very good. The main dish of eggs, sausage and potatoes was delicious and well cooked. The eggs Benedict were good, but not great. The eggs were slightly over cooked - the difference between a soft yolk and a runny one- and the Hollandaise sauce was too lemony. The service was excellent and the overall experience was was great. I would not hesitate to go there again.
The food was pretty good and a good value to choose the prix fixe menu. We added an appetizer of grilled octopus, but it was not stellar! A bit tough and perhaps frozen.
The waiter was excellent, though he might have mentioned that my martini was going to cost 24$!! A bit steep .....
But, overall a good experience and enjoyable with attentive service , good food and value.
Very nice for pre-theater. Not as frantic as most others. Nice menu with wide variety. Pleasant, accommodating service.
This is my go to restaurant for business breakfasts or lunches. Hi quality food and service. They never say no to any request. Carrot juice, yes sir. Almond milk for your French Press, yes sir. I'm good for once or twice a month at Gaby's whenever I travel to NYC.
Dissapointed to learn that the restaurant was inside a Sofitel Hotel. Not what we expected. While the pre theater menu was a good value, the Albariño wine we selected was priced at $67 when the App Vivino suggested the price to be $15.99 - not a mark up I find acceptable.
