You don't need noise and pretension to enjoy an excellent steak. The private club atmosphere has made this a go-to comfort zone in midtown if your conversation - either business or personal - is important part of the reason you're dining out.
I have dined in this establishment for at least 5 years now and I have yet to be disappointed. I was pleasantly greeted by the hostess, Maria and seated promptly. I recommend this place for a beautiful romantic date night or just dinner with friends under dim lights. Thanks again. :)
Food: perfect. Our party of four all ordered filet mignons, all at different temperatures. Everyone was extremely pleased. Potatoes au gratin were a big hit side dish.
Atmosphere: perfect. Feels like a private club. Tables are spaced so that the only conversation you will hear is your own table's conversation.
Service: perfect. Waitstaff is there when you need them, but not intrusive. Our waiter took our entire order without writing anything down, and delivered everyone's dinner flawlessly.
Price: Not cheap, but delivered everything I expected from a high-priced NYC restaurant.
This was our Restaurant Week choice. We found it odd that the Surf & Turf entree item differed from both locations, and the price was equal. Also, the portion sizes were a bit subpar (6 oz steak with 1 butterflied shrimp) considering the price. We did not feel the price warranted the value of the meal.
Sat downstairs in the bar lounge and bartender/waiter was accommodating (we were pressed for time) and efficient. Good mixed cocktails and excellent food. Consistently good steak and on this day I had the pork chop special.
Although quite pricey, this restaurant is wonderful. We had the best service, and the food was terrific. Drinks were as expensive as our PreFixe meal, though - lol.
Felt like an old world steakhouse which I liked. The service was ok. Occasionally our server disappeared, but eventually he did return. My daughter ordered a tomato and onion salad and the burger with no cheese, and of course it was delivered with cheese. Sent it back and the next burger came out was small and over cooked. My second daughter ordered a Caesar salad and the French onion soup, also without cheese. Salad was good, but she said the soup was super sweet. I ordered a tomato onion salad. And a steak. My meal was perfect.
Wonderful restaurant with excellent food. We were there during restaurant week and the specials were reasonably priced. Highly recommend!
I went to Frankie and Johnnie's Steakhouse with a work colleague during Restaurant Week. I let our waiter know I needed to get to Penn Station by 7:00. We had a 5:30 reservation. We had ample time to enjoy the steak and shrimp entree, our appetizers and even dessert. Everything was excellent! I'll definitely return!
Wonderful service in convenient location. Spacious table and moderate noise to make for easy conversation without it being too quiet. the ribeye steak was prepared exactly as requested and had a lot of flavor. the zucchini fries had very little flavor.
Great place. We celebrated our 25th anniversary here and had a great experience.
Sal is the consummate host. Perfect service every time, not to mention the absolutely fantastic meal... Every time!
Wonderful ambiance! blast from the past old school music and great service! thoroughly enjoyed it!
We’ve had a hard time finding a quieter place in Manhattan to have a delicious meal with our family. Just found it - Frankie and Johnny’s. Great location, great food, great atmosphere for sitting and talking for as long as you like with great food and professional but unobtrusive service. We will be back.
Servers and staff was great
I have to say it was pretty disappointing. We came over from the Pulse on a recommendation from the staff. The food was pretty good but I must say the main server Sal was pretty abrupt and bordered on rude. He rattled off the specials as if he was annoyed to do so. The ancillary staff were much more courteous. There were only 3 other tables seated when we walked in so it’s not like he was being stressed. We had been at Benjamin Prime the night before and the service was terrific. The food as I said was pretty good but higher priced than the Prime and the wine offerings significantly over priced. I have to say if you’re looking for a great meal and great service Benjamin Prime is a much better choice.
Perfect and delicious
Great food but save your money for the high pricing!
The food was very good, but the server was arrogant and rude. Will not go again.
Outstanding service, great ambiance, we had really nice evening there.
Service was excellent however, my steak was just so so.
Have had way better for the same or less money. I travel all over and have eaten in some fine establishments in many city’s. I would rate this a 3
Everything was really good (well, the salad was good.. but not great)...steak done perfectly, sides lovely, dessert delicious (the espresso ice cream was the best I've ever had), drinks were robust (and even got a half pour of wine when we didn't want a full one!). We went back the next night for a nightcap and had a lovely time at the bar. Friendly, good, lovely ambiance.. a new favorite!
Good food, but no sides are included in the price of an entree, running the cost up considerably.
Great dinner. This restaurant is now a must stop on our trips to NYC.
The food, service and ambiance were all fine. But it is very overpriced. Everything is ala carte. So the filet came on a plate by itself, no garnish, nothing. A vegetable, extra. A potato, extra. I would not recommend or return.
Our meal at Frankie & Johnnie’s was so delicious. We are steak lovers and our Delmonico was done to perfection. Our server and staff was very informative and attentive to creating a wonder dinner experience. We definitely had to walk to the theater following dinner, because we were so full. We will definitely return.
The food and service were outstanding. Our reservation was for 5pm on Memorial Day weekend. Yes, that's early but we had a 7:30pm at the Blue Note. The portions are always more than most people can eat at one seating but that's an observation and by no means a complaint. It can get a little noisy later in the evening. Enjoy!
I cannot tell you how pleased we were with our experience! We came on recommendation from a “local” for our son’s graduation celebration.
Everything was fantastic. The food was out of this world. The staff was outstanding: attentive but not intrusive. They were also accommodating and were happy to suggest substitute items. Prices were more than reasonable. Ambiance was warm and inviting.
From the minute you walk in you feel like family. I highly recommend :)
brilliant atmosphere. best steak we have ever had. Porterhouse for two
We knew in advance about the prices but still went with high expectations. The restaurant was charming. Service was prompt. However, the food was only average. And so was the presentation. Actually, there was no presentation. Just meat on a plate with, maybe, something green thrown on there. Our filet was nothing special. At those prices I was expecting something special. We were both disappointed.
It’s getting tired. Waiters are snobs Overpriced and veal chop was burnt on the outside with no flavor other than burnt.
Ok this is a steak house that will be gone soon! Tomahawk steak for two $116.00 should not have been served ! Terrible piece of meat!
Food, service and ambiance are all OK. We had a member of our party in a wheelchair and fortunately she was able to get down the three steps from ground level to the lower dining room. I personally ordered a rib eye "medium rare" and would expect that a steakhouse would know how to cook it that way. Unfortunately not.
Will be returning again. From having a cocktail before dinner at the bar to our reservation, staff extremely accommodating and friendly. I highly recommend this establishment
This was my first visit to Frankie & Johnnie's but definitely not my last! The extensive wine list drew me in and was a major influence in my decision to dine here.
We had impeccable service by the staff and everything we ordered was absolutely perfect! I ordered the surf & turf which was melt in your mouth perfect! My husband ordered the bone in ribeye and he was equally satisfied. If you love mango, I suggest you try the mango sorbet...it was creamy and naturally sweet.
Great dinner! Steak was excellent- served perfectly as ordered. Great Caesar salad and super gratin potatoes were delicious. Highly recommended.
Very convenient as it was located directly across the street from my hotel. With reservation we were seated immediately. There were several specials and ordering was very easy. Octopus appetizer was fabulous. I ordered the Veal Porterhouse, which was absolutely delicious. My wife went with the aged Ribeye, which was also outstanding. Wonderful evening spent for dinner with Frankie and Johnnie's.
The dinner was very good a super steak for us and the burgers for the children. The check was not so good but we are in US it is quite a normal way, around 75$ each for one main course.
Wonderful dinner experience from the service to the food.
