Had dinner there before a
Broadway show -
Everything was cooked perfectly -
We enjoyed the prix fixe theater menu which was a great value. Our steaks were amazing, flavorful and melt in your mouth. The caesar salad and soup were also excellent as was the dessert, cheese cake and apple strudel with ice-cream. Our server was excellent, very knowledgable and attentive. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere with photographs of guests and Broadway posters. We definitely would go back when we're in New York. It's also very convenient to the theater district with its location on restaurant row.
Good food and service
The worst steak I have ever had. They charge 20% of tips for lunch because we are Asian and looks like tourists.
What a service ! Excellent , wine, steak et crab cake and shrimp are perfect ! Mafioso ambiance with a lot of actress picture on all wall !
Our waiter was attentive and pleasant. The fish was cooked perfectly and the wine was wonderful.
The steak was very good- very large portion T-bone steak. I had mashed potatoes that seemed to have a little extra water in them and were a little more pureed than I would have liked. Service was excellent.
Everything was way under seasoned. Steaks were cooked perfect temp but absolutely no seasoning at all. Had to put salt on it. They bring out their own signature steak sauce; which I feel should never be on a steak, but in this case I would say it almost needed it. Chilean sea bass was a huge peice of fish and also cooked perfect temp with zero seasoning. The only highlights were great service, superb coffee, cheesecake and sorbet. For a $400 tab for three entries and 2 salads, two deserts and a couple of sides I really expected better. I can only hope it was because we were there late night after a show and perhaps the chef had already left. Really disappointing.
Our best meal for our Summer Broadway series. We ALWAYS hit our favorite steakhouse when we are in the city!!
Had a great evening with 4 of us. Started out with the fresh mozzarella, shared a tomahawk steak with my friend, cooked just the way we like it, You have to try their steak sauce. My other two friends shared the porterhouse for two. We also shared a few sides and had two drinks. Although we didn't have wine or cocktails the meal was very reasonably priced for a steak house in Mahahattan. Our waitress did a great job as well, we will be back for sure. Can't beat the location too!
One of the best steaks in NYC!!!!
Ok before a show. Service was average when compared to the NYC market.
Although I miss the old speakeasy and old world atmosphere, I have to say the new location is roomy, attractive and relaxing. The service was great and the food was exceptional! We will definitely return!
This was the perfect pre-show lunch! Can't wait to come back!
There were enough good reviews that I thought my husband and I could enjoy a pre-theater steak at F&J's. With so many delicious steakhouses in the city, I was surprised this one has been around so long sustaining a decent reputation. There was nothing that stood out about the experience. The decor had no charm of an established restaurant. The food was fine with nothing to distinguish it. Pricing was expensive in line with other steakhouse pricing. However, they had the audacity to charge $2 extra to have your vegetables sauteed in olive oil and garlic. Come on. Seems petty when you're paying $50+ for a steak. The servers were all pleasant. The only thing it had going for it was that it was conveniently located to the theater. Never again.
This is our go-to place on a Sat night. After the theatre crowd is gone we enjoy going to the bar for exceptional service. The food is always delicious. May be a bit pricey but it is worth it for the quality.. After 8 PM the place is more quiet and a good spot to chat with your dinner mate. Frankie & Johnnies is an old school steakhouse but the lump crabmeat is a standout for its freshness and taste. Make sure you try Frankie and Johnnies special steak sauce. A perfect blend of tomato and brown sugar and other spices.
Food was delicious. One of my friends, whose birthday it was, thought best steak he's ever had. Staff was very attentive. Got in and out in time for a show. Surprised us with a birthday candle and birthday cocktail. Will definitely go back.
Very nice place to dine, and the 3-course theater dinner (for less than $60) is a comparative bargain. Very high quality beef, but was disappointed that it was overcooked, though I was emphatic as to how I wanted it prepared. Because the server, Roxie, was SO pleasant and wonderful, I didn't object and return it to the kitchen. Later, I regretted not doing so. Nice place. We'll return, but next time if the beef is similarly overcooked, I'll return it. Historic brand, decades of existence, and the current owner is only the second in its history.
We went on a Tuesday night so it was not busy at all. The waitress was great, very attentive. The seasoning on the steaks was absolutely delicious.
The service was excellent. We arrived promptly at our reservation time and we were immediately seated which was nice. It was a Tuesday night so very few other dinners were present. The drinks were excellent. We ordered calamari and shrimp cocktail for the table and they were both very nice. We each ordered ribeye steaks and they were prepared at the temperature we each ordered. A couple of us had baked potatoes as a side and they may have been a bit over cooked as they were pretty dry. All together it was a nice meal and we agreed that we would return next time in town.
Been going for years and was disappointed this time. Food was subpar and not cooked correctly. Had to send back. For what they charged we expect and typically get better
It’s surprising how flavorless and poor quality the food was. We were stuck at a table smaller than my bathroom counter. Normally we order a bottle of wine, the waitress didn’t bring us a wine list and the only signs on the table said by the glass. After we found out they have bottles would have been nice to know.
Also, we sat at 4:45 and the server asked if we were seeing a broadway show. When we said we were and it was at 8pm she assumed we wanted to hang out there for three hours and kept us waiting 15minutes just to order. Tourist attraction that is all. And not even sure why a tourist would want to go there. You’re getting ripped off.
We came for a birthday celebration. My husband ordered the pork chop and I ordered the salmon. Everything was cooked to order and was very tasty. I received a delicious piece of apple strudel a la mode for dessert. And our server was very gracious! We will be back very soon!
Disappointed. Server told us the kitchen could not cook our filet mignon Pittsburg style but not to worry as all their steaks are cooked with a char. Unfortunately, when our food arrived this was not true. Very surprised that a steakhouse could not do a proper char like other steakhouses. Service was very good, again just unhappy with how our steaks were cooked. Felt meat was under seasoned as well.
Great food. The wait staff did a great job.
We were kind of rushed for time due to our theater reservations. The staff made sure we were able to finish our meal and still have time to enjoy coffee before we had to leave.
It was a great experience. Would recommend to any one.
First time at Frankie and Johnnies and my wife and I had a great dining experience. The food and service were both exceptional, and its location was ideal. After our broadway show we were literally within minutes to the restaurant. I would absolutely recommend this palace and look forward to our next visit.
Solid dinner as usual. One of the few places for fans of Calves Liver and it is just delicious!
Once again our visit on Saturday was just the best.
we love visiting this steak house every time we go into the city, service, food, and most important
being treated like family.
Attentive service. One of the best burgers around.
We enjoyed dinner after leaving the theater. It was superb! This was my first time at this location, having visited their other restaurant some years ago. It did not disappoint. I would definitely recommend them.
We ate T-bone steak and it was a really great choice. The meat tasted amazing and the service was good.
20th Anniversary dinner! Exceptional service, food was excellent and staff very accommodating. Will definitely return. My husband said it was one of the best steaks he ever had. 5 stars from us! Thank you!
Well worth visit, expensive but worth it, couldn’t fault staff very helpful, would recommend
Maybe not the most famous, but the steak is great. It is perfectly located in the theatre district.
Love that no rush was ever felt. Our server was outstanding as was the meal.
Good food, great service! Our waiter was superb and adapted as 3 more people trickled in 20 minutes late. He was ready and willing to get whatever anyone wanted on a Wednesday, matinee day. I had the Frankie and Johnnie's burger and it was delicious.
