There was a lack of polish of the service, which wasn't expected for the prestigious of the institution.

Attentive but not intrusive staff. Delicious sandwiches, scones perfection, mini cakes were a blast to the senses and then cake we could takeaway! On top of that proper tea in a proper pot, perfect treat for a Birthday Tea.

I was excited for my first afternoon tea while in London. Fortnum and Mason is a classic known for this.

Good: Piano played lovely music to listen to. The rooms are beautiful Tiffany blue. Lots to explore on the way up to the tea room - shopping different goods etc. The little desserts are delicious and decadent. The sandwiches are good and light. Enjoyed tasting clotted cream and various tea selection.

Bad: The service was terrible. It took 10 mins for our server to greet us. No discussion on first time, tea reccos or anything. When the food came we had question on clotted cream or jam first and our server didn't check in for another 30 mins. I was hoping it'd be a bit more intimate and they'd explain teas/the history of F&M etc but came away feeling a bit 'factory esq'. Perhaps July is just a busy time.

Food was delicate and every bite was a taste sensation. It would have been nice to have teapots refreshed. We waited over 30mins to be seated despite having booked and arriving in on time - there were no seats available in the waiting area

Tea was topped up by hot water only, if you are offering extra sandwich etc., would have been better to be offered new pot of tea with fresh tea leaves (not just water added...)

Except the fake smile from the reception desk on 4th floor, everything is good. The desert could be less sweet.

Two staff at the entrance counter was unfriendly and not welcoming. We were kept waiting for 15 mins or so as well.

Waiters and waitresses on the floor were so unobservant and seemed to have zero awareness of customers’ needs. Not attentive and slow service. Never go there again. Really disappointing experience.

I’ve been to Fortnum and Manson twice now, and it’s one of my favorite places on earth. The food is to die for and the ambiance is amazing. Our waitress was a little less attentive on our second visit but still very friendly despite how busy she seemed. I’ll go back anytime I am in London.

Friendly and unstuffy service that still made us feel really special. The food is delicious and kept coming - endless refills of tea and as many little sandwiches and cakes as you could eat, plus cake to take home. A wonderful way to celebrate a special occasion.

Scones, esp cheese scones, are a bit too dry and not up to my expectations. Tea is good, love that it could be refilled & it’s impressive that customers could literally try everything they want before they shop.

Beautiful setting , however the service was a bit off, they left items off our tea stands which we asked for and they forgot about again. Same with the cake at the end. Food was delicious though, especially the chocolate cake.

We didn't enjoy the experience at all and would definitely not recommend Fortnum and Mason. The service was absolutely appalling. Our waiter took our order and never returned to the table to see if we needed anything. Took 15 minutes to get his attention to order more sandwiches. Had to remind him twice about them and they eventually turned up. Sane with regards to a refill of tea. Then he disappeared completely for 40 minutes after a row with the manager. Would not go back.

We decided to go to Fortnum & Mason because we thought that it would be a good place to celebrate a birthday. From start to finish we were disappointed. The tea room needs a bit of love. It seems like it has seen a grander era and has been left to wear away slowly. We arrived on time and while there were a lot of tables available we were asked to wait. When we were seated, our waiter came quickly but that was pretty much the last time. We ate our sandwiches, which were average, our scones, which were fine and pastries, which were okay. I thought that this being Fortnum and Mason that we would be wowed by the selection, but alas no.

It was the service, however, that has caused me to write. The waiters have tunnel syndrome and never look beyond the table they are working. Often, there was no one working the room. We wanted to get extra tea. It took us 10 minutes to get noticed and then another 15 to get the tea. When we got the tea, we asked for an extra plate of sandwiches, and it took 20 minutes (I timed it) to get a plate with 5 finger sandwiches. While the waiter apologized, we figured that we had spent more time waiting for our food and tea than actually eating and drinking. Definitely not impressed and would not recommend.

From the minute you walk into Fortnum's it is magical, the shop is beautiful and a fabulous start to an even more fabulous experience.
The tea room is beautiful in soft colours and light and airy, a piano is played softly for your entertainment but it is not intrusive.
From the moment you walk in you are made to feel special, never hurried to make a decision, there are so many amazing tea's it takes a little time to decide, the staff are courteous and attentive and you want for nothing.
I would recommend the Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon to anybody who wants a lovely afternoon where you are made to feel very special.
