Fortnum & Mason Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon
We all had an enjoyable time, however as with our visit in July the service isn’t what it used to be. We had to wait 20min after receiving our food for our chosen teas to arrive. I’m not sure why this is although I suspect it might be due to the ratio of staff to customers, thats the problem . It makes it difficult to attract the attention of staff when you need them. FM is a great place but I feel the ambiance and food are suffering due to the polish and shine slipping from the previous outstanding service. Please please get this outstanding service back it makes the difference between a good experience and an outstandingly memorable one.

Past reviews made me dubious as to what to expect but the service was excellent. Our waiter kindly had sandwiches made without mustard as requested and I had forgotten that when booking I remarked it was for our anniversary. We had an extra couple of pieces of cake with the plate pipped ‘happy wedding anniversary.’ As we couldn’t eat any more he kindly popped it in a bag along with some of the lemon curd I had commented on. We both had a lovely time to remember our anniversary by.
Great afternoon tea, spoiled by too many servers between whom no explained what we had on our plates until we asked. Very apologetic but each had thought the other had done it.
Excellent service. Wonderful atmosphere. Plenty of choice and options to replenish all items. Chocolate violet tea was yummy.
Excellent service. Went with someone who has many food allergies (gluten free and vegan) and they were very accommodating.
Absolute shambles. Tea was never served with food but left on the counter. When it finally came it was Luke warm. No member of staff really allocated to our table. Probably five members of staff served us overall.
Members of staff also had poor command of English and didn’t always understand the conversation.
Had to call staff over ourselves when we wanted additional tea or sandwiches, but had to remind them again on another two occasions that our tea was sitting on the counter.
One member of staff who took our original order was also seen by me, running between tea rooms collecting dirty table linen.
I think they were short staffed and the staff on the day were poorly trained if at all and seemed to be just helping out on the day. Worst experience out of the three times I have been there.
Would not bother to book again!

This is not the first time that we have taken afternoon tea at Fortnum and Mason and once again we were not disappointed. The service is excellent (Jose our table attendant was superb), the quality and freshness of the food delicious and the surrounds 'typically English'. As it was our anniversary it turned out to be yet another special occasion for us.
I have been having afternoon tea here for years. This time around, I was very disappointed. I was alone. It took staff 10 min to finally come to take my order, and that happened only after I asked waitstaff fir a glass of water. The chicken curry and smoke salmon sandwiches and scones were tasty but the pastries and other sandwiches were bland and tasteless. I may just have to go elsewhere
Very attentive staff, beautifully presented & lovely setting.
Told at beginning could ask for more sandwiches and also an additional cake stand that you could choose from. It is an expensive treat but you do get what you pay for and would highly recommend.
Do expect an at least 15 minutes wait to be sitted and another half an hour to be served after you have made the offer. The staffs there like to chat with the customers instead of serving the food. Other than that, the food and atmosphere there is great, live piano music and very well made food. Love it!
The service is not value for the money. Refresh plates need to be wait for over 20 minutes. Half of our time was waiting for service. Even the food is good, still not recommend.
I was very disappointed in Fortnum and Mason. I was seated quickly and my tea and food were bought to me. Not one member of staff spoke to me for 55 minutes after this and I was not offered any more food, tea or water. I had to approach a staff member when I wanted to leave to ask how I could pay. I would not return and not recommend. I complained to the manager before I left.
Nice afternoon overall - took us a long time to get seated and then also to get served. Compared to the Ritz which is a similar cost the service and whole experience is much better at the Ritz.
The afternoon tea itself was lovely but the service was not the standard I would expect, and the servers are expected to do too many tasks which takes away from their ability to provide the service I was expecting
An incredibly disappointing afternoon tea. Stale bread on sandwiches, disappointing mini cakes and no sighting of famed Fortnums cake trolley . Savoury options mainly tasteless other than yummy beetroot and goats cheese mouse and savoury scones which weren’t replenished.
Too many waiters and waitresses serving our table, so no real interest in giving us the full F & M experience.
The food is absolutely wonderful however the service is a real let down. This is the second time I have been and received terrible service. It’s so very slow and unfortunately means it’s quite difficult to see how it’s costs so much per person. It’s a shame because the food really is delicious.
Great gluten and dairy free options! They went all out to ensure we enjoyed our experience!
Waited 30 minutes to have our order taken even though we were first seated our order was taken last. No offer of water while we were waiting felt largely ignored. Some of the sandwiches were dry and the cakes were ok but would have expected more for £55 per person!

Not what is used to be. Very expensive but very commercial. Food and teas were good but not exceptional like they were 10 years ago. Quote disappointed.
Food and tea below normal level but not the price it’s very expensive try another this one not recommend.
Overpriced, not value for money. Tea is not rich enough and diluted, scones are super dry, tea is not hot enough.
Compliments to the chef, who made us swoon more than once over both the regular and the vegan menus.
Sadly we had to wait more than 25minutes to be seated for a table booked two months in advance upon showing up perfectly on time.
We then waited 20 minutes to give our order and nearly 30minutes for our menus to arrive, the latter acceptable had we not seen people in other sections arrive later and being served before us ...
Our waiter was flustered, didn’t go over the tea selection or present what was served, and after taking our second order for tea, brought out fresh pots but left us cup-less for a while before realizing.
Apart from the first served vegan scones being hard as rocks, the tea was delicious, the vegan menu scrumptious even, but we will be probably be going elsewhere next visit to London.
Best afternoon tea I have been too, exceptional food and wonderful piano playing in the background. Will be back!

It was a special trip to London and High Tea at Fortnum and Mason was the highlight. The service was exceptional as was the high tea.
Anyone who wants to experience the real traditional London does not want to miss this stop
Very bad experience. I told them in my reservation and then 3 times afterwards that I have a nut allergy. They served me a cashew dessert. The paramedics were called. We also waited 20 minutes for service when we arrived.
Our waitress did not speak English which it made difficult. But the restaurant is gorgeous and the food was very good!
We are fans of F&M Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon this we guest you already know, but this time something was missing, maybe too many people, but I know that the service was just not what we are used to. Maybe something needs to change or introduced, something new on the menu or different table setting. We are sure with the personnel you have they will certainly come up with a little something extra. Just a suggestion, we shall of course will always come over for our special tea.
It took about 45 mins for us to receive a drink, was v slow.
The food was absolutely incredible, lovely flavours and everything tasted really fresh. The main thing that let down the experience was the service, it was very slow. We had to wait a really long time for our tea, we had completely finished our sandwiches before our first pots even arrived! When the stand with the food was brought out the waiter didnt explain anything about the contents, so it was a bit of a guessing game. We had to wait a long time for even the simplest request (water took 20 minutes to come), and finally when we had some sandwiches that we wanted to take away we were told that because they were savoury it was against health and safety! It could have been a great afternoon tea but was massively left down by the service.
Very poor experience. We arrived 5 minutes early for our reservation and were asked to be seated on a sofa to wait for our table. No problem, we were early. We then were left waiting for 20 minutes as we watched various other groups be seated before us, who arrived later than us. After enquiring at the desk, it transpired we had been forgotten about. We got a quick apology and said it would be noted to their manager. 5 minutes later we were finally seated in a nice window seat, however next to 3 uncleared tables. Not a great environment. We were then served a glass of water, however then had to wait 20 minutes for a tea pot even though we ordered pretty much instantly from being seated. Food then arrived however the server had no idea what the pastries were, and basically guessed. We were told everything served was replenishable however trying to find a server to replenish was another matter. On average we asked for everything we wanted 3 times. Our water was never once refilled. Food was average. At the end of the meal I refused to pay the service charge but even then never had a manager apologise or enquire further. Very disappointing for the price point. We had chosen Fortnum and Mason for our anniversary celebrations as a trusted brand, would not recommend. We probably sound like really hard work, but we are 2 of the most easy going people you could ever meet. Go elsewhere.
The food was lovely but honestly the service was quite poor. We seemed to have been left in a corner and forgotten. Our server switched between our seating without telling us and our new person was not attentive. Never checked on us. We had to ask our original person for a refresh of tea and a few more items. He seemed confused and almost annoyed to be helping us. Couldn’t get a refresh on water. Took forever and sort of ruined the experience. I have been here several times but think I will be recommending a new tea room the next time I have guests visiting after this experience.
Service is bad
The table was booked for birthday celebration with special request wrote on the open table’s booking app. Disappointingly nothing has been done for the birthday occasion and we’d been kept waiting for an hour for the afternoon tea to actually arrive on the table. Dissatisfy with the waiting time which has ruined our plan afterward.
The restaurant is beautiful and the ambiance is wonderful. Couldn’t ask for a more perfect English tea experience. Yes it’s pricy but it’s worth every penny. They will bring you as much of anything that you want and send you home with a box of goodies. We were there for my sons 13th birthday and they made it really special. I would go again in a heartbeat.
