We had to wait for our table to be
Pasta was delicious, the squid ink & the bucatini were our favorites. Cocktails were great & our waiter was a delight. Every single thing we ordered were perfection.
Nice spot for a group. Food is very good, would not say amazing, good value. My guests enjoyed the evening!
Outstanding food with attentive and knowledgeable service.
We have made Formento's our family's holiday downtown tradition for 3 years and will continue to do so. The food and the service has been a highlight not only for us, but for our children. Cannot say enough positive things about the beautiful meal we have each year. Thank you Formento's!!
Seating needs a bit more room to add to a romantic evening.
Next tables are just too close together
Wonderful waitress got us on our way to the opera (where she sometimes sings).
Super attentive wait staff. Very courteous manager. Excellent food. All around wonderful meal.
My wife and I dined at Formanetos' 3 weeks ago doing a recon we were planning for a 'friends' Christmas dinner. Everything was fantastic so we spoke to the Service Manager (Hannah) and she took things from there. Our party on Friday could not have been more perfect... Great food (don't overlook any of the appetizers - Nonna's meatballs, cauliflower especially), Can't go wrong with any of the entrees. Can 't wait to go back and hopefully won't make the same mistake we did the 1st two times... the appetizers and entrees were so good we didn't have room for dessert!
Formentos was a great place to eat dinner for a birthday celebration! We shared mussels, bucatini pasta and ribeye and everything was so good. Awesome service, too! We will be back.
My fiancé & I had a great dining experience at Formentos this past Saturday. Our waitress Ana & the rest of the wait staff were exceptional! Ana did a great job of helping us lay out the different courses and decide which items pair best with each other & our cocktails. We enjoyed the service, food & ambiance very much and plan to come back again for a date night in the future.
As always, food and service were on point.
Great service and food
Our waitress was very good and the appetizers were delicious. However, the entrées were just mediocre and all of the food was very overpriced
Second positive visit. Flavorful, well-prepared food. Excellent meatballs and scallops. Wait service and management stops by too often. Feel slightly rushed.
Our family dined there before a show at the Chicago Theatre. Everything about the experience was amazing! From the attentive, knowledgeable waitstaff and attendants to the delicious food and wine. Would highly recommend if you are in River North for a special, memorable meal!!
Overall great experience. Our waitress was super helpful with choosing items to order. Food came quickly and tasted great. P
Lily was amazing service. Henry was able to turn a reservation failure/ problem into a success
Our server was so sweet and our food and wine was delicious! The chocolate cake at the end really hit the spot, too...excited to go back!
Gorgeous atmosphere. Fun, great date night or occasion spot, and not too fancy. I wore jeans and didn't feel too casual. The noise level seemed normal for a Saturday night. Wait staff is very attentive but doesn't over do it and doesn'tmake you feel rushed. They were professional, kind, well spoken, and knew the menu well. The food was fabulous. I wish the portions (especially pasta) were a tad bigger. But the wine and our meals were wonderful. Will absolutely be back.
Love this place, food is outstanding and service was excellent.
Fabulous service and food! Jesus was awesome and Hannah and Henry (managers) were as attentive and concerned about our enjoyment as Jesus, our servers!
Service and food were amazing. Would recommend to anyone!
I was disappointed. Service was especially unfriendly.
Our first trip to this fine restaurant on Randolph. We went for Sunday brunch. A varied menu is offered. Both of us where very happy with our choices. Portions were actually too big for this early seating. They did remember to acknowledge Geninne's birthday. Looking forward to visiting them again at dinner time.
Good food but restaurant clearly wanted us to leave quickly and would rush dishes and payment .
This is one of my new favorite hot spots. I went for my birthday and I had a great time!
I highly recommend Formentos!! Fantastic food! I went for a girls night and we shared a few things, perfect amount for dinner.
Amazing service! Outstanding food!!!
There are many really good Italian restaurants in Chicago. Formento’s is not one of them. Try Club Lucky, Antico, Tarantino’s, Buena Terra, Mia’s, or even Tuscany.
My experience on a Friday night...
Arrived right on time tonight. Table was not ready. Asked the host stand if it would be a few minutes of wait time or more like 15. They said 15, so we ordered drinks. Before we received our drinks, they told us our table was ready. Very frustrating for us and our server. Drinks were fine.
Ordered the calamari and Bucatini carbonara. Calamari was very good. The Bucatini was not very good - doughy noodles and not hot. For main entrees ordered the Salmon and the Scallops. Neither was very good - Salmon was fine but wasn’t served as described on the menu (almost no spinach); Scallops were small (4 of them) and the accompanying vegetables were bitter and could barely taste the apple accompanying the scallops.
Meal was expensive considering we didn’t enjoy the meal or the experience. The West Loop has awesome restaurants (Swift & Sons, Girl & the Goat, La Sirena Clandestina, and even Greek Islands).
Based on tonight’s experience, I feel confident saying there are better Italian restaurants in almost every neighborhood in the city.
I brought two clients to Formento's for dinner and we were all more than pleased with our experience. The food was amazing and the service was top-notch! I awoke the next morning already thinking about when I can return with my wife. Thanks.
We have lived in Chicago all of our lives and this was a great find. The food was perfect, with many options, italian classics, but very creative, from appetizers, pasta and grilled meats and seafood/fish. They are also very good with dietary restrictions, particularly with serious ones, like Celiac Disease. The service was absolutely awesome. The atmosphere was comfortable, inviting and perfect for larger groups, with large booths that fit up to 8 people. We had toddlers with our group and while we ate on the earlier side, Formentos was very accommodating and we didn't feel awkward about having kids there.
BEST crab cake benedict ever! Todd, you outdid yourself with the squash slices for that fall-feeling!
Our pizza appetizer was cold and old. The food tasted like we were in a Mexican restaurant. I wanted chicken breast with my pasta and instead got bread crumb chicken. Food was definitely not Italian. Was sad I wasted a night and money in Chicago at a horrible restaurant when there are so many others to enjoy. Sorry but will never go back or recommend. Wish I can get my money back.
One reason we went was because of the many good reviews, but it was just good enough. —not special. It is definitely not a romantic special-occasion place for two, but looked like it is a good fit for a group of 5 to 7. Many of the dishes and appetizers are for more than two people. The food was good, but nothing stood out compared to other dining options such as Monteverde, RPM Italian or Viaggio’s; all of which I would recommend ahead of Formento’s —especially if it is only two of you, but also for the food and deserts. Again, the food was good, and the atmosphere pretty nice, but it’s not a one couple place to me.
We went for an early dinner. Service was very good and food was spectacular.
Tables were too close together! Could barely hear.
Great server! Wish I could remember her name. She gave us a full menu rundown and recommended the lamb. So glad she did, it was fantastic! Will come again.
Fantastic food and good service. Tables are a little close together.
I visited Formento's recently via a recommendation from a co-worker because I was looking for a new restaurant with great chicken parm and carbonara. Formento's did not disappoint on either front! First I discovered that the menu had been modified and they were now serving veal parm. I politely asked my server if the kitchen wouldn't mind making chicken parm instead being that it was my entire reason for the visit and they were so gracious to accommodate me. The chicken parm was phenomenal and the carbonara was out of this world. I also enjoyed one of the best old fashions I've had in a long time. If you are looking for a great dining experience, this restaurant will deliver. I can't wait to go back!
