Went for Fathers Day and felt lucky to have gotten a table. Awesome everything! Food outstanding, service impeccable and ambience inviting and comfortable.
The brunch menu is not a true representation of the restaurant’s full menu. It is gimmicky with eggs and pancakes, extremely boring menu and uninspiring. Such a disappointment.
They did a really great job catering to the children in our group during brunch. Etch-a-sketches saved the day when the kids had to wait longer than expected because part of group was late and our waitress was super friendly.
Was so disappointed in our dinner at Formento's. Service ruined the evening by rushing our food and not paying any attention to our table. Wouldn't go back and would recommend looking for another restaurant with better quality service.
Very good service and ambiance. We had meatballs, calamaris, and white beans for starters (they were all amazing ). For main course we had the agnolotti pasta and it was undercooked and honestly not very tasty. I would definitely recommend this place but it is overpriced for what it is.
Great ambiance, server couldn't have been more positive and friendly. The food overall wasn't as outstanding considering the price. The meatball appetizer was the best part of the meal. The entrees were not at all worth their value given the portion and overall quality. I wouldn't return as the entrees weren't that great.
Outstanding food. Exceptional service. Perfect for a special evening.
Artichoke appetizer is wonderful, as is burrata. The pastas are a little skimpy (they are called a middle course so you have to double if you want them as a main, but they're priced more like pasta mains, in my opinion) and a little salty, but fine. The veal parm is excellent: bone in, beautifully crispy, tasty tomato sauce, not too much mozzarella. The atmosphere is fairly buzzy, service very good. We would certainly consider returning.
I was dining alone, but I was treated nicely, while leaving me space. I was between two noisy parties, so next time I’d eat outside.
This is a thoroughly reliable experience every time I dine there - great food, service and wine. I love that every person in the front of the house collaborates to give diners personal attention.
Honestly the best experience my wife and I have had, everyone was so nice and they went above and beyond.
Food was great but the service for a Tuesday was very slow
All the food was flavorful, beautifully presented and prepared perfectly. We had several shared items. The cauliflower, strawberry buratta and strawberry-rhubarb crostata were the standouts- so fresh and flavorful. Chloe our server was engaging and efficient. Boras helped us select a delightful, well-priced rose. Lots of smiles from the staff. A lovely evening.
We went for Sunday brunch and were not disappointed. Two had the eggs, bacon and/or sausage, with small potatoes and toast. Both dishes came with the eggs perfectly done and the diners were very satisfied. The third had the poached egg with crab lumps and asparagus. A side salad was also included. There were two eggs so one went home with the diner. The dish was delicious.
A slice of chocolate cake was split between two and was a hit. The Bellini cocktail was the perfect cocktail for brunch.
The service was exceptional and we will definitely return.
The food was DELICIOUS!! This might be my new fave Italian restaurant! I do wanna mention the servers as they did not seem to know what food went to what table. But other than, awesome!
Location in the West Loop is fantastic; the lemon papperdelle is amazing.
Excellent food and atmosphere. We were lucky to sit outside and enjoy the nice weather complimented so fantastically with the superb food offers. A great relaxing evening. Service was fantastic!
Fantastic food and attentive staff! My sister and I visited prior to a concert at the United Center and sat outside on the patio. Super cute environment! The happy hour deals at the bar were great, too! Will be coming back ☺️
Don't let the scale of the restaurant or the bonus points scare you off - the food really is that of a much more intimate, elevated dining experience. Every single dish was incredible and we tried approximately 10 dishes - one of the best dinners I've had in Chicago.
We came here to celebrate my birthday and I wish I'd chosen a different spot. Now, the staff was AMAZING - our water glasses were never less than 3/4 full and the table was cleared promptly. The drink I had was VERY strong so it was a good value for the $13 I paid. We had the burrata appetizer but the green olives were pulverized and watery, not at all like other tapenades I've had before. Our waiter tried to tell us that the pasta portions were only meant to be side dishes and not main courses, and tried very hard to get us to change our order to get more food. I found the bucatini portion to be WELL sufficient for an entree after having bread and two appetizers, but within 5 minutes of being on the table it was cold and the pasta was kind of gummy. We were given a dessert menu but it was expensive and not much sounded good, so we headed over to Bombo Bar afterward. I'd maybe come here again if there was nothing else with reservations open.
Fantastic fresh, home-made Gluten Free pasta! Will definitely be back here to try more dishes.
Food was delicious, thoughtfully prepared, and super fresh ingredients. We loved everything we tried. We came during the tail end of happy hour on a Thursday and it was very crowded and a little hectic, but we still enjoyed ourselves very much. The patio is lovely.
What a great meal experience. Our server Christina was wonderful. Excellent food and great people watching from the patio. Will definitely be back!
Great experience. The food was great and the waiter wonderful. I have a dairy allergy and he was very understanding and able to provide information on exactly what items I could eat. The food was good- I highly recommend the cauliflower appetizer and the scallops as an entree.
We ate here at the weekend, and while everything started off well, something went badly awry in the middle! Our waiter started off friendly and explained a lot. Our appetizers came fairly quickly, and were great, including the cauliflower and octopus. But that's when things went downhill, and there was a really long wait for the main course. Our waiter came over after about 15 minutes and said they'd be along shortly. After another 15 minutes, the hostess came along and said that there had been a mistake with the tickets for the order, and two were stuck together... We really did wait another 15-20 minutes, and ran out of drinks a couple of times. When the main courses did come, I for one did not feel very hungry any more. Plus my pasta was on the cold side. I then made the mistake of ordering desert, because they had a strawberry and rhubarb tart, and I can't turn away rhubarb. Even this took a while to come, and was cold. By this point our waiter had definitely lost interest in us!
We got the check, and then waited 10 minutes, and he didn't come back to pick it up. We had to get up and chase down somebody to take our money. The bill was coming up on $300, and they had taken off $22, I guess for keeping us waiting for sooooo lonnngggggg. But why $22???? What did that represent? Honestly, I have no idea what happened to make our waiter abandon us, but I would not go back.
This was our third time at Formentos. The service was excellent, from the hostesses, to the bartender to our waitress, we felt welcomed and well looked after. Our waitress recommended some specials which we shared with the table and were excellent - the blue crab and a Morel mushroom risotto. My husband had the bucatini, which is their signature dish, and it was amazing. I had the scallops which were flavorful and filling. We all left full and happy that we returned once again to Formentos.
Delicious food and amazing service. Highly recommended.
This was my first time dining at Formento’s. We started out at the bar for happy hour and had a bar tender that was very knowledgeable and friendly. We ordered the meatballs, calamari and salad. The meatballs were moist and delicious. Then we moved outside for dinner and ordered the carbonara bucatini and lamb chops.. both were excellent. The pasta is all made fresh. We had the best waitress, Chloe. She was very detail oriented and when it was time for dessert she remembered that I was eyeing an espresso martini that another table ordered earlier on the evening. I wish all waitresses and waiters were as nice, attentive and detail oriented as Chloe. I will definitely return to Formentos for dinner!
The food was amazing! Every dish we had was delicious. The greatest thing, though, was how accommodating they were! Within our party was a vegan, a diary-free person, and a person sensitive to spicy food. Our server Jose went through all of the items on the menu that could be modified to meet these needs. When they brought out the dishes that had been modified, they also brought side dishes with the ingredients that had been removed, so the rest of us didn't miss out.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience, everyone enjoyed themselves, and I would definitely recommend dining at Formento's!
Outstanding food and service! It was worth going out of our way to this hidden gem. The staff recommendations were spot on, and the entire experience was enjoyable and delicious.
Staff provided excellent service. The best. Food was great.
The service was incredible. I love an enthusiastic server and ours was top notch.
The food and service is incredible at Formento’s. My husband and I ordered the burrata, mussels, monkfish, scallops, and pappardelle. Everything we ordered was delicious and we will definitely come back soon!
Very good servers very professional make you feel at home
I have never been to a place where each and every member of the staff from the valet to the server was so incredibly kind and welcoming. I can't say enough about their culture of kindness- it makes the experience a consistent 5!
The food was delicious & the service was phenomenal! My family and I really enjoyed our evening.
I would have preferred more traditional Italian food. It’s really just my preference. The service and atmosphere were excellent
Great food and great service. Everything was well coordinated.
Spectacular Mother’s Day brunch with impeccable service!!
