Fontina Grille, in the King Farm, offers the best of the best when it comes to oven-fired pizzas, fresh fish, gourmet pastas, bountiful salads and sandwiches. The granite bar divides two dining areas. To the left, a full service carry out counter offering everything from pizza and pasta, to ribeye steak and Lavazza coffee and cappuccino. To the right, the casual but elegant dining area can seat about 125 people, with a back area for semi-private parties and corporate events. The penne a la vodka is amazing. It has bacon in it, which makes it so much better than traditional. They have gluten free pasta and zoodles available to make their pasta dishes gluten free. The house dressing for salad is very flavorful as well. They also have great pizza.

This was my second experience with Fontina Grille. My first experience was a carryout order. My first experience was much better than my second. In truth, it was partly my idea to substitute Zoodles for pasta. Bad choice! It made my sauce watery and therefore, tasteless. The server acknowledged this after the fact. I wish she would have warned me ahead of time. In any event, I will definitely return for another meal. Just no Zoodles!

Perfect evening. I wish maybe one more heater was on. I was still very cold eating my food. But Mo was extremely nice! Second time here and all the staff are very nice. And food was amazing, as always! Definitely returning!

I read Yelp reviews on Fontina Grille many months ago and meant to dine there for some time. I try to follow the changing COVID-19 regulations across DC, MD and VA for restaurants but missed news coverage for Montgomery County MD.

My significant other and I arrived at Fontina Grille for an evening reservation. Imagine my surprise when we were led outside to a tent for dinner. I was at a loss for words and wanted to turn around to go elsewhere but my SO was having none of it. Thankfully, the tent was well heated and we were seated under a patio heater.

For an appetizer, I ordered crab and artichoke dip served with tortilla chips and my SO ordered meatballs. The portion size of the dip was really small and topped with so much cheese that it was off-putting. After two bites, I removed the thick layer of cheese which made the dip better. However, the amount of crab was minuscule but I really liked the chips. My SO’s appetizer contained three sizeable meatballs wrapped in cheese. I tried a piece and thought they were heavy, tough, and didn’t take like it but what do I know. He loved the dish, ate all three and said they were filling.

For an entrée, I ordered shrimp risotto without tomatoes and Caesar salad. The salad was terrible and not edible; the dressing was homemade, salty and off-putting. The risotto was good. My SO ordered minestrone soup with grilled salmon with pasta. He ate the soup and enjoyed it but was too full to eat the rest of the meal. He took it home, re-heated it and said it was good. He also had an apple martini and liked it.

We asked about a military discount but it is not offered. However, we did receive a complimentary slice of the Brooklyn Blackout Cake. We started to eat it, but it was really cold making all the chocolate hard. We took it home and ate it at room temperature with vanilla ice cream. The cake was to die for.

I’ve never experienced a bad meal. The food is always tasty and the service impeccable. Melissa, a server, is amazing. She adds her personal touch by remembering my name, what I drink and the way I prefer my chicken Caesar salad prepared. I’m always greeted by management and like when they come around and talk to their patrons.

I sat outside Sunday for brunch. I had the steak + eggs with a side of manchego grits and red sangria. The steak was juicy and tender. The sunnyside up eggs were just right. The fries were crispy outside and tender inside. And the grits and sangria complemented my main course perfectly! Sorry I don't have photos - I was too intent on eating it!

We were there for lunch. The service was excellent and attentive to Covid. The outside is under a heated tent on the sidewalk (people using the sidewalk can walk through). We ate inside where the tables are well spaced, and diners are seated well apart.
All the items we ordered were good sized portions, well cooked and full of flavors. I would order all of them again, except that there are a lot of other items I want to try!
The Mussels Caprese and the Wild Mushrooms Antipasti were amazing. They offer several options for additions to salads and pasta dishes, such as grilled shrimp, salmon, flank steak, and pasta substitutions (in-store-made, whole wheat, gluten free).
They are celiac-friendly in that many of the items on the menu can be made celiac-friendly. I ordered a take-home pasta dish that proved to be safe, though like most restaurants, the gluten free pasta was a little over cooked (not al-dente). Maybe this is a personal taste issue.
For desserts, the Creme Brulee was large, well flavored with vanilla and had a delicate caramelized sugar top, and the Bomba was a showy decadence of chocolate and vanilla gelato enrobed in dark chocolate. It was topped with whipped cream and a bit of chocolate sauce.
We will be going back.

It was Sunday night so they were not so busy. We walk to the restaurant as it is half a mile from the house. I ordered the fried zucchini for appetizer which is so so because it was a little over fried. But the crusted rock fish did the trick for me. It was perfect. So I give it 4 stars for the food. I have been coming here almost every other weekend since they reopened from COVID shutdown. It’s a neighborhood gem!

We were having an early dinner. We hse to dine inside because it looked like rain. After we were seated it, no ine came to get our drink order for a long time. There was no oneelse eating inside.
