Flesh & Buns Covent Garden
Below street-level, the restaurant has a bar area offering bar dining for up to 10 people, serving a variety of sake brands and a diverse range of cocktails including the signature Frozen Yuzu Margarita, alongside the restaurant’s varied sharing food menu. Draped fabric ‘noren’ screen curtains surround intimate dining booths and transport diners to an authentic Japanese drinking den experience – bookable and ideal for groups of friends or colleagues meeting for lunch, dinner or Flesh & Buns’ ever-popular Sunday Brunch.
Service was amazing, the food was so fresh and tasty, and really good value for money. Will definitely be returning.
Unique way of dining and interesting combinations of food. This is definitely a place where you need a group of people for dinner to share.Food tasted good and service was good too. The price is slightly high for the portions but as it’s in central London it’s understandable.
I visited in a group of 3 on Saturday for a birthday lunch. The service was pretty good.
We shared the Korean wings (which could have been hotter), edamame and prawn dumplings.
For the main event, we chose the fried chicken, duck and pork to make our bao. They were all good - again, could have been warmer. But we did all really enjoyed these!
A lovely touch was them bringing out some mochi on a decorated plate for the birthday girl, even though we didn’t order pudding!
Overall, I didn’t think it met up to the hype but I did enjoy the bao!
The service from one server in particular was shocking, double standards with the table next to us. Got served undercooked chicken which they tried to give back to us even though one server agreed with us that it wasn’t cooked enough. Food in general was disappointing, I’ve been to the one in Oxford Circus and that was far superior
Lovely meal as always. Incredible chicken wings!
Very expensive, dirty kitchen with no ventilation, average quality food
Great food and great atmosphere
I will definitely recommend to my friends and come Back again
Very nice for a quick lunch before the theatre. Music was a bit loud for my dad but we got used to it.
Booked a meal with a group of friends for a birthday. All of the food was so delicious and the service was attentive - they even brought the desert plate with a happy birthday message and candle.
The general ambiance was so lovely and we all loved the food and whole experience. It was more of a pricey meal but that was because we wanted to try everything on the menu!
Would definitely come again
We enjoy eating at Flesh & Buns before going to the Donmar Theatre next door--it's very close and the service is quick so we never worry about being late for the start of the play. I had to Portobello mushrooms followed by the aubergine--both delicious and the aubergine really melts in the mouth. The others had the duck and salmon--also very good. The service is always friendly and helpful. A great night out. Not the cheapest of meals, but delicious.
The food was incredible, one of the nicest meals I've had in a long time! Menu is a little unclear on how the Flesh and Buns work, but was well worth it.
Haven't been for about 4 years, disappointing now. The chicken wings were ok but the duck was incredibly dry. The tables were so close together. Both tables we were between had a complaint while we were there.
Sweet mother of Asian Tapas this place was the absolute bomb!! To say we were satisfied is an understatement, my only regret is that I didn't have more space in my stomach to fit in more!! We had the pre theatre menu which is excellent value for money and then added a few side dishes because, well, we love food!! The bao buns were light, fluffy and a perfect accompaniment to the duck and salmon fillings - now the salmon, where do I start, it was cooked to perfection, succulent, crispy skinned and perfect - what are you people doing to your pickled vegetables?! They were ridiculously delicious, pickled cucumber with the salmon and beetroot with the duck, both were crisp and delicately pickled, not too sour and not too sweet, I wanted a bowl of each to myself!! Finally our sides, the chicken wings, crispy squid and vegetable gyoza - all yummy, packed with flavour and umami, I almost forgot about the Ceviche, it was fresh, delicate and delicious, a perfect refresher dish. I'm running out of space and this review is long enough, go! You won't be disappointed!
Live the place
Drinks maybe too expensive?i had 2 g&t and the overall price was a bit higher than expected but I will definitely go back and would recommend to anyone!
Great restaurant. Excellent atmosphere, friendly staff and fantastic food
Everything was perfect but the 2 stars go to the fact that we were asked to leave after 1 hour.
I visit all bone daddies restaurants regularly i never asked to leave even on a Saturday night at Shackfuyu because i order a lot.
But the night i visited they gave us limited time and not only i would order more and end up paying probably 100 pounds more on cocktails, it also turned me off on visiting that place again.
Instead we went to pub bear by and got our cocktails there.
Now I understand you believe it is a commercial move to give limited time.. but it should apply to people that order on budget and not to the ones that are there budget free and ready to try everything.
It is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overpriced
Lovely food and service. Would definitely go again
Having been to one of the other branches of Flesh and Buns near Goodge Street station, we thought we would come here for a slightly different version of the tasting menu. It was sadly such a huge let down compared to the other branch.
To start with - the service was poor. One of the waiters kept trying to give our food away (and at one point actually did so we didn't end up getting our bao buns with our main, meaning our food was cold by the time they arrived).
At the end, the waiter just handed us a bowl of fire and the components for the s'mores and just walked off (he of course put the bowl of fire onto the wrong table first before giving it to us..!). I hadn't had them before, so I didn't really know what to do - I obviously figured it out, but usually in a place like this the waiter would explain what's on the plate. (Which they didn't do for any of the courses - but seems more important when you've got a bowl filled with fire!).
The food was not as well balanced or considered and was just overall not nearly the same quality as the other branch. Some of it I didn't even want to eat (the orange brocolli was extremely sweet).
The decor within the restaurant was also very tired. The toilets weren't in great condition, either. The waiters were also dressed very differently - the person on the door in a hoodie and trainers, and some of the staff dressed smartly and some not. It was a confusing tone for a restaurant with prices like this.
Overall, it was genuinely a huge let down - especially given the price. I would honestly advise not going to this one and going to the one near Goodge Street.
We had such a lovely meal at Flesh and buns.
Very tasty sushi and small dishes. We didn’t try the buns but they did look very nice.
Excellent service and will certainly return.
Food was really nice and the staff were very quick and friendly.
Only reservation was the plum sauce which comes with the duck, it’s not like your standard, but maybe just not for me.
The food is delicious and consistent. Service was friendly and the ambience was lovely but not overly loud.
Very good. Both enjoyed it.
Excellent food and service!
Each time in London we eat at Flesh and Buns - always great fun great drinks great food - sushi this time was made ahead dry stale ..sad. We will return with hopes this is resolved.
I took my boyfriend who was visiting London and he absolutely loved the restaurant! He still can’t stop raving about the chicken fried wings! I enjoyed everything we ate! The portions were generous and we had an absolutely amazing evening!
The tables for brunch
Are super tiny.
Another couple throw the glasses of the table next to them. Make the ambience tense.
The sushi needs a lot of finese. It's very bulky and destroys quite bad. The sushi on my house corner it's much better.
Didn't feel the feel the value of the food was worth it. Won't come back.
Food was really great, especially the bao buns were so soft! The soft shell crab and panna cotta were the least favourite of the dishes ordered. The service was excellent as the person spent time going through the dishes and making sure we were looked after the entire night. The tables have to be turned pretty quickly so we didn't get to be as relaxed as we would like but with how busy it was, that can be understood. Overall, would definitely recommend.
All the food was delicious and the waitress took real care and time finding out what our friend with dietary requirements could and couldn’t eat from the menu! Great!
Awesome Asian restaurant with great staff, cuisine and location.
There were 7 of us and we had the party set menu. The food just kept on coming and was delicious and was served by friendly staff. Everyone really enjoyed the meal and the place had a nice feel to it. Would definitely go back again.
Really tasty Ox cheeks- most flavourful thing I've ever eaten! We were put at a high table with lots of people when we first arrived and felt really squished, when we asked the waiters if we could move they were very accommodating. Had a lovely evening from then on!
Delicious food and fun atmosphere, and a nice location!
This was our 17th visit and the staff were friendly, food was delicious as always, and when one dish wasn’t perfect the manager (I believe her name is Steph) immediately remedied the the issue and was charming / courteous throughout.
I can’t recommend F&B enough. 🥰
Nice food and service, good location I would recommend Korean wings for starter.
I loved it here! Really tasty and fun food and drinks
The food is tasty - but not particularly good value for money. It felt like a cheap atmosphere - high churn and not somewhere you could relax and enjoy the evening. Service dreadful, really. Served by at least 6 different people and we realised after we’d paid that we weren’t brought one of our dishes (we were sharing lots of small plates). My soy sauce dish was dirty as I sat down at the table - enough that whoever put it out should gave noticed. Just a general lack of care overall.
If you want Japanese sharing food, go somewhere else - lots of options around and I’d highly recommend Sticks ‘n’ Sushi.
Great food but over the night we had to consistently ask for attention to order drinks or food. We had several different waiters over the evening so we never knew who was actually serving us.
Ambience was great, decent value- if on the high side.
The food is amazing!!
