About First Coast
Just a short walk from Haymarket train station, First Coast is a local, independent neighbourhood restaurant. Over the past 11 years we’ve built a strong reputation for serving top quality modern Scottish food at reasonable prices.
Named after a small village in Wester Ross, where the owner has fond memories of eating brilliant Scottish produce during his childhood holidays, First Coast’s menu has something for everyone. Fresh fish is delivered daily, we offer a good range of tasty vegetarian options, J Gilmour butchers supply us with quality Aberdeen Angus steak, and we also make our own haggis

First Coast Ratings and Reviews
Myself and five girlfriends were visiting Edinburgh from Ireland and this restaurant had been recommended. I must say the good was superb everyone enjoyed their meal and service was good, the only downfall was the wait between starter and main was a little long but the food made up for it and it really was great value for money.
We booked a table in advance. When we arrived, the main section of the restaurant seemed to have a good ambience however we were seated in the section around the corner. The two person table by the window is awkwardly placed as it is right in front of the door which staff come through from the kitchen; we felt a little in the way. It was also chilly in this corner as a draft came through each time the door opened.
The food itself was delicious- I had a and my friend had butternut squash soup and I had a squid ink risotto. For my main we had a fish stew- which I loved. There was a very long wait in between courses - roughly an hour between our starter and our mains.
I was visiting Edinburgh on a short trip and would be hesitant to return again on a future trip.
We booked a table for ten people at 6pm. Two of our party were delayed beyond 6.30 but the rest of us ordered before that so as to use the early diners' menu. Since the restaurant was quiet I asked if they would kindly allow our two late-comers to order from the same menu but this was flatly refused. I feel this was pretty poor and hardly good customer service. We were after all paying almost £300 and didn't want to make the two late people feel even more embarrassed by having the dearer menu. Apart from that gripe, the food and the evening was great!
This is always our first choice of venue for our catch ups (usually every couple of months). Menu always contains some favourites but there's also always something different. Full of flavour and well cooked and the home made bread is delicious. Love this place.
Went to First Coast on Thursday 23rd Feb. My friend had the haggis neeps and tatties to start and I had lentils beetroot and harissa. We both had fillet steak for the main course. Whilst we both enjoyed our starters, the steaks were amazing! Service was spot on! Great to see this restaurant keeping up its fab standards!
Went here for a late anniversary lunch. All three courses were phenomenal: I highly recommend the black pudding, bacon and apple salad starter! The service was also very friendly and attentive. We were also very lucky to have been seated right next to the cosy fireplace.
Had a lovely lunch at First Coast. Have been a few times and they never disappoint. I would have choose anything on the menu as they have such great choices. Hopefully won't be too long before we go back for another meal. The staff are always so pleasant and helpful without being in your face.
We had a really enjoyable evening at First Coast. It is a very nicely decorated place with a bit of character. Service is excellent as is the food. The Portuguese wine was also really nice. We took salt and pepper quid, pork cheek and pork fritters for starters followed by 3 gurnards- Everything was excellent, particularly the gurnard which was really good and excellent value. We were less keen on the caramel pot but that was more to do with us than the food. We would be happy to return if in Edinburgh again.
Our main courses were very finely prepared and combined a lovely range of flavours which worked beautifully together. I savoured each mouthful and could have happily gone on to sample another main dish even though I was so satisfied with the meal I had. I will definitely be back for more.
The steak was okay but no sauce offered and it was well over priced. The chips were oversized and not inviting. The food was dry to taste and I did feel disappointed. We spent just under £100 for the pleasure. We felt cramped and the table was small and overloaded. We would not return.

As always the food and service at First Coast was excellent. I have eaten here with family and friends over several years. Perfectly sized portions and an excellent menu. For example if you enjoy steak it was cooked to perfection as was the sea bass. The beef kofta as starter was so delicous. The puddings are perfect....the flourless chocolate cake with orange sauce was sublime. The staff are so friendly and attentive but do not overdo this as in some restaurants.
I think that the fixed and a la carte menus are reasonably priced particularly given the high quality of food on the menu.
