About First Coast
Edinburgh, EH11 2AB
Just a short walk from Haymarket train station, First Coast is a local, independent neighbourhood restaurant. Over the past 11 years we’ve built a strong reputation for serving top quality modern Scottish food at reasonable prices.
Named after a small village in Wester Ross, where the owner has fond memories of eating brilliant Scottish produce during his childhood holidays, First Coast’s menu has something for everyone. Fresh fish is delivered daily, we offer a good range of tasty vegetarian options, J Gilmour butchers supply us with quality Aberdeen Angus steak, and we also make our own haggis

First Coast Ratings and Reviews
Went here for a late anniversary lunch. All three courses were phenomenal: I highly recommend the black pudding, bacon and apple salad starter! The service was also very friendly and attentive. We were also very lucky to have been seated right next to the cosy fireplace.
Had a lovely lunch at First Coast. Have been a few times and they never disappoint. I would have choose anything on the menu as they have such great choices. Hopefully won't be too long before we go back for another meal. The staff are always so pleasant and helpful without being in your face.
We had a really enjoyable evening at First Coast. It is a very nicely decorated place with a bit of character. Service is excellent as is the food. The Portuguese wine was also really nice. We took salt and pepper quid, pork cheek and pork fritters for starters followed by 3 gurnards- Everything was excellent, particularly the gurnard which was really good and excellent value. We were less keen on the caramel pot but that was more to do with us than the food. We would be happy to return if in Edinburgh again.
Our main courses were very finely prepared and combined a lovely range of flavours which worked beautifully together. I savoured each mouthful and could have happily gone on to sample another main dish even though I was so satisfied with the meal I had. I will definitely be back for more.
The steak was okay but no sauce offered and it was well over priced. The chips were oversized and not inviting. The food was dry to taste and I did feel disappointed. We spent just under £100 for the pleasure. We felt cramped and the table was small and overloaded. We would not return.

As always the food and service at First Coast was excellent. I have eaten here with family and friends over several years. Perfectly sized portions and an excellent menu. For example if you enjoy steak it was cooked to perfection as was the sea bass. The beef kofta as starter was so delicous. The puddings are perfect....the flourless chocolate cake with orange sauce was sublime. The staff are so friendly and attentive but do not overdo this as in some restaurants.
I think that the fixed and a la carte menus are reasonably priced particularly given the high quality of food on the menu.
This was my third visit to First Coast and each time it has been very good. The staff are friendly and attentive without being over-enthusiastic and the food is delicious.
There are good vegetarian options and they also have decent gluten free courses, and are willing to adapt some of the courses to GF.
All in all a nice experience. I will definitely go back.
A very nice menu and even though the venue was pretty full with pre-rugby match diners (we are ladies who lunch so had no idea!) the service was excellent. We all had the lemon posset for pudding - it was absolutely fabulous! Excellent value lunch £22.50 for 3 courses.
What a lovely evening. Attentive service, delicious food and drink and comfortable surroundings. We had venison and hake for our main courses and ice cream and jam roly poly for puddings. The hake was beautifully cooked with potatoes, roast cauliflower, romesco, onion & creme fraiche. The jam roly poly with custard was wonderful, a real treat. I will certainly eat here again and recommend it to my friends. Thank you.
Cannot recommend highly enough. Everything about this place was faultless. All of the staff were friendly and efficient, bringing our drinks to the table within minutes of ordering. The menu, although small ( a plus point in my experience), offered variety and something to suit everyone. We opted for the special starter of Thai fish cakes, which were the best I've tasted and came with a wonderful mango chilli dip. I chose one of the fish dishes for my main course. The freshest of hake was superbly cooked and served with a light, but tasty sauce and just enough perfectly cooked veg to satisfy. I liked the layout of the dining areas - there are quite a few different areas and I was happy with our allotted table near the bar. I will request either this area again, or the small space beside the open fire. Reasonable choice of wine, including by the glass, and not overpriced. Looking forward to returning soon.
