It was our first time dining at Ernests and we heard many good things about the dining experience. We chose to dine in for Valentines Day in hopes for a great experience.
However, we were quite disappointed. The server was not familiar with the menu, where items such as dessert options couldn't be answered. The palette cleanser after the first course was timed poorly as the main entree came out right after the cleanser. I chose the menu with wine pairing, but the wine wasn't brought out until we asked for it. The overall food quality was fair but it was heavily salted, leaving us with headaches after the meal.
The quality may have been affected due to the busy service. Nonetheless, we do not plan to dine at Ernests again.
The meal was wonderful, the service excellent.
Sadly the drinks were not so good. I asked for a martini made with Bombay and even specified the ratio of of gin to dry vermouth. Sadly no Bombay was available and I had to have a substitute. I do not know whether it was the gin or the barkeeper used sweet vermouth but it was possibly the worst martini I have had. It was sweet tasting! I did not complain ... its a romantic evening.
The wine pairing
The Rose wine lukewarm. Someone had not put it in the fridge early enough.
The Malbec excellent
The Moscato dessert wine luke warm. To make it drinkable I asked for a tumbler of ice and strained the wine with this.
On top of this I had to pay services charges on the horrible Martinis.
I still enjoyed the meal though
We had the beef tenderloin and found it exceptional.
Great food and service. Really enjoyed dining here and will return
students away for competition. But the staff chef's can hold the fort without problem. food and services are excellent. The leek soup is surprisingly good. The generous portion of the main course almost leaves me no room for dessert.
Very enjoyable meal. We will go back. Excellent value.
The supper put on by the executive chefs was so delicious, with every plate having unique flavours you probably haven't had previously. First course is crusty home baked bread w roasted fig & olive/butter w balsamic. Next, seared scallops (3 small-sized scallops slightly disappointing for $14) but the pumpkin puree was divine. The 2nd course was roasted pork belly coleslaw and it was beyond my expectations. The meat was seared on the bottom, crispy and the flavour throughout was top notch! A dried grapefruit garnish framed the meat so beautifully ... it too was delicious. I prefer fish (if I had a choice on the menu) BUT I'd have pork belly again! My 85 year old mom had soup/pork belly and Baba au rum w orange sorbet for dessert. White Chocolate Brûlée finished me off. We rolled home feeling we'd been treated like royalty. Best value for your money ever!
Brought a friend for a birthday lunch. It was perfect: looking forward to the next special event to do this again. Amazing!
Ernest's is seriously the best. The food and service is unmatched. I highly recommend checking it out.
For such a dedicated foodie as myself, having a gem like Ernest's in town is a wonderful staple and the Friday Student Showcase Brunch is phenomenal. It's obvious why the culinary/hospitality school at NAIT has the impressive reputation it has, if this is the sort of fare their students are creating and offering. I love fine dining and I love good food well prepared, and Ernest's delivers on their promise of quality every time I visit. It's especially fun to chat with the student chefs about their creations, and to enjoy their obvious pleasure when a guest enjoys their offerings. Just a superlative experience all around!
A hidden gem !!!!!!!! A must try !!!!!
A brilliantly conceived menu with wonderful service from the students. My guests and I were all very impressed. The chocolate mousse hot dog was a stroke of genius.
We were here for the Friday buffet lunch. Really enjoyed the appetizer table and the dessert table. The Banana’s Foster table was a treat. They ran out of at least a couple dessert items, like the mojito truffles that I wanted to try. There was so much variety at all the tables. The main buffet food was always kept full but it was weirdly barely warm, I didn’t enjoy that. Service was attentive but not overly intrusive. We felt rushed as we were told we had 1 hour for lunch. Since it was my birthday we ordered a bottle of wine and wanted to sit back and relax. It was quite a rush to finish it all within the 1 hour allowed. Having said that we exceeded the time by about 5 minutes and no one came to tell us to leave. Also no one was waiting to be seated and staff had already cleared the appetizer table so don’t really think that we had to rush out but wanted to respect their pre-instructed time limit. I noticed the table that was seated beside us, about 45 minutes after us, had to rush to get their food before the buffet was cleared away. So I would say it is a good place for getting a lot of pretty good food with great variety but for a fairly high price and don’t expect to have much time to visit with your fellow diner(s).
Great variety and good presentation of the dishes. The food varied from good to very good to excellent. Some of the entrees weren’t warmed enough. The Chile was bland for my taste. Overall, a very decent buffet for the price, and it’s great to see the culinary students working and learning their craft.
Superb food, incredible value. We’ll be back.
A wonderful lunch at Ernests as usual. Nice and quiet so we could talk. Great food, good prices
good staff. We found the staff caring and helpful to our needs. We did not need the popcorn, their Bread is to die for !! Ordered a nice wine that complimented the steak...Cooked to perfection.
The tomato Gin Soup was delicious. Would have loved to have THAT recipe....
the Creme Brûlée was a sight to behold. Perhaps a smaller portion. We should have shared. It was huge
and oh so delicious....
We usually go to ERNESTS a few times a year with different friends and have NEVER been disappointed.
The menu is creative and well-executed with selections to suit almost everyone. Our waiter could use more training, however the prices are amazing for the overall quality of the dining experience.
The food was great. My friend had the sable fish, she said it was the best she ever had. the food for the rest of us was also very good. The presentation looked great and to be able to enjoy our meal and have a conversation without raising our voices was a big bonus. The students behaved very professionally. all in all, it was a great experience. Will be back.
My duck came out dry and had to be remade .. the other guest had there dinner completed before I receive mine. There was also a lot of time between courses which seems to be strange
The food was excellent with lots of creativity. Presentation of the food was also excellent. Many attentive staff and I understand they were all students. They worked hard and were eager to impressed and I was. The only issue I had was the parking. I parked at the wrong location and my guest was rushed due to the meter running out and we weren't able to have desserts. We were there for 80 minutes for lunch with a small glass of wine.
Great place to celebrate! It was a nice atmosphere and wasn't rushed! Food was fantastic and service "over the top".
The experience was lovely.
Our server was prompt and polite.
Food was amazing and the pairing of wines was right on the mark- totally enjoyed our time
You'll get to try food that you wouldn't usually eat other restaurants. The theme they follow with all their dishes are pleasant as well. the desserts were great.
Without a question one or the best table in Edmonton. I enjoy the Atlantic smoky salmon and the salmon with orange sauce. Excellent choice of cheese and hors d´oeuvres. Service is the only point that need to be improved. I studied in a Hotel School and I am very critic with service. Probably the number of students servicing was not enough but I got the impression they were overwhelm.
Great food! Impressive talent by culinary students.
Best lunch ever. Fabulous experience. We’ll be back!
Excellent food , great meal from start to finish. The service was excellent
The appetizer and dessert tables were excellent but the main course options were average, the fried fish was very good but the portions were too big in my opinion smaller serving portions in a buffet are more enjoyable
Ernests is a restaurant preparing students for the hospitality industry. It is important to know this when dining there. The food is fabulous, and the students serving add an endearing quality to the experience.
Fantastic experience dining with colleagues for lunch. Very attentive and responsive staff, delicious food (including a great bread selection to start and tasty popcorn too), and comfortable, clean, classy environment for enjoying our lunch and conversation.
We went to Ernest’s for our anniversary last year and reserved again this year, mentioning on the reservation that it was our anniversary. Last year they wrote happy Anniversary on our dessert and welcomed us with a glass of bubbly, which was very nice of them; that didn’t happen this year. Food was awesome both years. We had a salad, beef ribs, lamb shank and creme brûlé. Our waitress was awesome but actually a bit too attentive making it a bit less relaxing than it could have been. We had a few questions about the food and our waitress tried to answer them, checking with the kitchen each time. I am more used to waitresses being more familiar with the menu and answering questions on their own. It was a bit weird to see the wait staff Dancing with each other and high fiving themselves but I guess that is what to expect from students. It seemed like a few of the wait staff were working hard and really busy while others were idle. I like that the chef comes out and asks about our experience with the meal. I am sounding a bit picky because there really was little I can complain about. It was truly a great meal and we will definitely return.
Everything was exceptional. Ambience is ok, but otherwise perfect
This is an annual tradition for our Christmas celebration. We are never disappointed.
The ambiance, food, and service were outstanding and represented excellent value for the money. Definitely coming back again!
Excellent food, service and price. Restaurant went out of its way to make our anniversary celebration memorable.
It would be better if the server told us there would be an extra charge on tea and coffee.
Food was very well presented. Desserts looked beautiful! The meal was delicious from start to finish. Wine pairings were spot-on as well. We enjoyed it so much, we have pre-booked for Valentines Day. :)
Amazing night!! The food was SO good, the wine pairing was really nice and the service was fabulous. All in all, a great night. We will be back soon.
Excellent food, great service, quiet environment that allowed for conversation. Definitely recommend.
Although this is a training facility for culinary arts you in no way get anything less than the best in food, wine and service. The whole experience is top notch and professional. We had the 3 course with the wine flight parings. Each course is presented exquisitely and is visually stunning to add to the dining experience. Lamb and Chicken were the main choices that night. Both excellent choices. Servers are professional and knowledgeable. Excellent overall experience.
