What Insiders Are Saying
We can get behind the kitsch of El Compadre in Hollywood because its authentic Mexican food, drinks, and great energy is everything we want it to be.
The food and margaritas are excellent and the service was very good too. This was my third time at the restaurant and I was surprised at how noisy it was. We were a party of four in a booth and it was very difficult to have a conversation. Something really should be done about the noise level.
A great atmosphere awaits behind the big door. Fun, good food, a great experience of a classic LA restaurant-clearly a local favorite too!
Old school classic place, love it.
Very dark inside. Staff was pleasant, margaritas were excellent and plenty of great food which was very filling!
Celebrating a summer Friday!
Father’s Day. Food was just ok. The waiter (Daniel) seemed like he was new - the food took a long time to get out to us and we had to ask the busser for everything because our waiter hardly ever came around.
Never disappointed when we head to El Compadre. The food and service is always consistent.
It was my first time here and had an amazing time here. Celebrated my moms birthday and they were very very accommodating with all my requests with no issues!! Our waiter was AMAZING! They let us bring in an outside cake for FREE! Amazing customer service and just went above and beyond. If you plan to have a birthday dinner here don’t think twice! Loved it! We will definitely be back!
I like this place
However, it was very disappointing that during my birthday celebration last Thursday nobody even offer some discount or free drink, or anything of that sort
Food was great! I had a Cadillac margarita and two crispy chicken tacos. Best I have had in a long time!
Really great. Our Waiter was always ready to help.
Birthday party. Took forever to seat us. Reservation was for 7:15pm. We didn’t sit til 8pm. The server messed up on a lot of our drinks, but we wanted to party so stopped caring about the wrong drink orders. Overall, I had fun.
Never disappoints. Always jammed but the staff is always super friendly and the food - and flaming margaritas - delicious. And fast. So lucky it's a quick walk away.
Terrible service. We waited at least 15 mins after being sat to see a server and then another 10 mins to ever get waters. The whole dinner went in this fashion and we even considered leaving without eating our dinner it was so bad. Worst experience we’ve ever had here.
Booked a table to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with flaming margaritas. Really enjoyed the vibe, food and especially the company. We decided to order a few things off the menu (specialties of the house) to share family style. We were not disappointed. Really enjoyed our meal here and would absolutely recommend this to a friend.
It was good but the photo guy was a bit relentless. He made us take so many photos that our food got cold.
We have been coming for the vibe for years!
Great service, great drinks! The atmosphere is uniquely charming!
Great atmosphere and live band. Food was good but cocktails better. Good place for groups
As always, El Compadre in Hollywood does not disappoint. The service and the food were on point. It was crowded and bustling on this Friday night, good signs that they are doing something right. The staff has the wait time and seating under control, which says a lot because the place was so busy. And the mariachi band was wonderful as always. As long as El Compadre is here we will keep coming!
Hostess was rude. Server took our order and never saw him again. They called me twice to make sure I would be there, then sat us 30 minutes passed our reservation. Not sure what the hype is all about
Fun but small restaurant. Great authentic Mexican. One heads up -- had a reservation for a large group and they didn't seat us until 40 minutes -- and many complaints -- after the reservation. They gave us free apps and were apologetic but a frustrating way to start a nice meal with family.
Very fun and tasty mexican restaurant in Hollywood. The 3 piece band was excellent and the service was wonderful. Great flaming margaritas and entries - we will be back!
The flaming margaritas and guacamole are showstoppers. It’s authentic Mexican, so although delicious it’s a bit heavy on the take away. Always a solid choice and super well priced.
I LOVE El Compadre for large goods. They are always so accommodating and friendly. The food is always great
This was a very special night... I chose El Compadre because of their incredible food and ambience. Unfortunately our service was not very good. We had to get up and find our server about 4 times through out our dining experience. Our plaits were never cleaned after appetizers. It was kind of awkward that we kept having to get up to find our server to order more food or drinks.
tasteless food, dark and dirty atmosphere, wrong food delivered, no refill on water or iced tea. yucky.
This is my favorite place to eat, great vibe friendly staff and amazing tacos
Simply put, I love this place. I would recommend it. However, it does take a while to leave because servers don't recognize when the meal is over, and once we ask for the check they don't come back for it quickly. With this simple correction the establishment could get more customers through on busy nights.
We celebrated our granddaughter's birthday and it was so much fun! A place to have a good time! Servers and staff delightful, friendly and helpful! Food was delicious and atmosphere fun and festive! We have had so many celebrations there and look forward to many more! Thank you everyone at El Compadre!
Had a great time with family and staff was super friendly, however, didn’t get very much back and forth with our server and only got two drinks throughout the entire evening which I had to flag down for. Also, we had a group of 8 and our food came out in 3 waves, which was a bit weird as there were significant gaps between. Again, love this place and staff and our server was very nice and friendly, but maybe had too many tables to manage.
Great food and entertainment, location is a little difficult to access if you are not familiar with the area, but overall a great experience.
I have been coming to El Compadre in Hollywood for decades! I can always count on this place for a memorable time and meal with friends and family. The guacamole appetizer is really a must, trust me. And tip the mariachi band on the way out. They were the beautiful music backdrop to your fun as heck evening out with flaming margaritas and hopefully good company!
Thank you for the amazing review! Our families work hard each day to provide a wonderful dining experience! From our family to yours... MUCHAS GRACIAS!!! Hope to see you soon! - El Compadre Family
Great food and service!
loved the ambience! we were fortunate to have a corner booth, since the noise level is pretty loud. the chips were great, as well as the service. my shrimp cocktail was very good, but some of the guests were disappointed in their main course.
Excellent food and service will come back next time we are in Los Angeles
Thanks for stopping by! We hope your next visit is as magical as the first! Take care and safe travels!
Fun place, the food was awesome, service was a little slow but it was also very busy on a Friday night. Overall a great experience, I'd come back!
It was a surprisingly awesome family dinner. The food was okay, the service was slow but it was Valentines so probably only bcuz it was super busy. The live music was such a treat!!!
This is our favorite Mexican place but the service was horrible. They forgot my boyfriends food, who we celebrated for his birthday, and he was the first one to order. The waiter had so many tables to handle himself he forgot all our requests. Plus, they told us they couldn’t sing happy birthday for him but still did it for another table.
