Duke's Seafood & Chowder - Tacoma
Love this place! The staff is excellent -- especially Wade and Chelsea! What a pleasant experience they made for us. The food is fantastic, and consistently so. Seafood is excellent and always cooked correctly and served beautifully. The views of the Sound are great, too. Now, my only gripe is that the price of the meals keeps going up, almost too quickly. It seems with each seasonal change, the price of everything increases by $3.00 and goes up from there. I eat here at least 3 times a year and have enjoyed the visit more each time, but I fear the prices are going to exclude a lot of folks from affording to eat at Duke's.
Food and service good. Little difficult to hold a conversation but overall it was a pleasant evening out with the family.
A lot seemed to have changed from only a year or so ago. Dining here used to be special with service and quality beyond what you could ever expect. Tonight’s experience was to be our 35th wedding anniversary celebration. Although we had mentioned this when the reservation was made the staff made no mention of this as they have in the past. The staff were polite, but we felt rushed having not yet finished our appetizer before the main course was served. Finally, the food was average, the fish underdone, and portion size not worth the price paid. Duke’s used to be our go to place for value, quality, and a place to celebrate special occasions. A year ago I would have rated this restaurant second to none. Unfortunately I can no longer do so.
We moved here from Michigan 2 years ago and good food was slim pickens, Dukes is thus far one of our favorites! We have been to one of the local Dukes restaurants several times now.
From start to finish, this is what a wonderful dining experience should be like in both my wife and my opinions.
Even though it was very busy, all the staff we saw were very friendly and inviting; it made us feel welcome and right at home! It was great to see Jeff (asst manager) helping the staff and attending to patrons with a genuine smile. Our waitress, Clorisa, was a delight to have tableside and was a major reason we enjoyed this experience so much!
The food (crab deviled eggs, halibut quesadillas, best clam chowder with the best sourdough, ribs with seafood grill, guava sorbet, and the pier pie) was fresh, well prepared and absolutely delicious! Each course was perfect and left a memorable impression that makes us look forward to our next visit.
I was a first timer to Dukes and didn't really know what to expect. I have to say, checking in on a Friday and being seated within seconds was Amazing! i WAS GREATED BY MY WAITRESS VERY QUICKLY AND WITH A SMILE! My date arrived and we were in the midst of chatting when the waitress came back. She was so polite and asked, "When you are ready just let me know...I'll come back as to not interrupt your conversations"....This was AWESOME! When ready, we ordered. This is where it got really good! My date asked for a recommendation on the appetizer and entre. We received great suggestions from our waitress and ordered right away.
The entire meal was fantastic! Delicious, great temp and served as ordered (some requests for changes in meal prep). We actually were seated at 8 pm and closed the place down. It was such a wonderful experience! I took photos and placed these on "other" sites as well. I received feedback and compliments from other followers, we all agreed "Dukes, for the WIN".
I can't wait to return and try another one of the signature meals!
It was a little chilly, as we were seated next to the window.
Consistently great chowder... ribs were fantastic! Great service!
Gluten free excellent food
They pride themselves on having the best halibut and chips which was very good only to find they have pulled it off the menu and replaced it with salmon. Good halibut is hard to come by, less desirable salmon can be found at any fish house. Guess I will have to go to WIldfin for my halibut and chips.
If there was a "sound" (i.e. water) in my community of Maple Valley or Covington, I'd dine at Duke's MUCH more frequently. Yes, I can go to Kent Commons. Foods always good, but I love it by the water.
The portion/taste of food is not worth the price. The only thing worth the money is the view
The food was tasty, but quite expensive, especially for lunch. We started with the excellent Bloody Mary. Then tried their version of roasted Brussels sprouts, which was outstanding, especially with the little crispy onion slices. We both had the New England style clam chowder, which was delicious, tho a little salty for my taste. My companion had the salmon with pasta Alfredo, which she enjoyed. I had a fish taco, who was well spiced and quite large, served on a thin toasted wheat tortilla. The booths are comfortable, and sitting by the windows gives a great view of Commencement Bay. All in all, Duke's is a very enjoyable place to dine.
we love going to dukes. this time as well as the past, we had the macadamia crusted halibut. it is absolutely the best halibut I have had. the waitress was really friendly, food was served in a proper amount of time and the scenery was just great. the only small complaint I have is in the big room it gets real noisy, its hard if not impossible to have a conversation with anyone sitting across the table from you. but that's ok, I will from now on make sure I reserve a table not in that room
This was our first visit to Duke’s. We were looking for a seafood restaurant to take a friend to lunch for the holidays and we thought we would try Duke’s. The food, atmosphere, and service were terrific. We ordered a variety of items and truly everything was great. I wouldn’t hesitate to plan a specific event or just an evening out at Duke’s.
STILL our favorite restaurant. The silky salmon was outstanding. My only wish is you have better desserts. Ice cream based desserts are not fun in the middle of winter. What ever happened to good old apply pie? Especially in Washington State?
Excellent as always
We had drinks, appetizers, seafood, wine. Their specialty drinks are always good. Wine was reasonable priced (for restaurant). Three out of four in our party ordered clam chowder - the original is best & you should have it at least once. Seafood entrees were excellent.
We love Duke’s. I wanted to try something different so i had pumpkin ravioli with scallops and sautéed vegetables. It was delightful, and a very generous serving. My friend had fish ‘n chips which are always good. We also had peppermint ice cream which was so creamy and delicious.
Our Server (Chelsea) was excellent, great people skills, warm and friendly.
The food was very good as well as the Cocktails.
I wish you had different appetizers, such as stuffed mushrooms with crab or stuffed clams or something else with a dip. The crab legs appetizer that I tried once was very bland and over priced.
I have to say also that even though I thought the steak I had was good quality, it still had a slight processed taste and the texture of the meat seemed like it was pounded. It also had too much garlic.
No offense. Duke's is still one of my favorite restaurants. The service is superior.
Dukes is my favorite place to go for lunch or dinner.
We had a reservation at 5:15pm on a Friday night and were promptly seated at a nice two-person table near the window overlooking the water. Our waiter Wade was very friendly and accommodating and checked on us frequently without being overbearing. We started with the crab dip, which was good, but not great. We probably would've skipped that appetizer. Our main courses consisted of scallops on ravioli for my wife, and the Dungeness crab cake on a brioche bun sandwich with fries and lobster pernod. The lobster pernod was absolutely delicious! It had some small lobster chunks in it, and had this sweet and tangy taste that just worked! The crab cake sandwich was good as well and very filling. The bun was too much for my appetite that night. I probably would've been fine with just the crab cake. It was THAT big and filling! My wife's scallop ravioli was good. The pumpkin flavor of the sauce and ravioli's was tasty and the scallops were sautéed nicely without being "rubbery." All in all, it was a very satisfying meal! The wine menu can be improved, but that is a minor "nit."
Came here for dinner for our 17th anniversary. Everything was wonderful! Great service, great atmosphere, and Amazing food!
My wife and I celebrated our 24th Anniversary and could not have picked a better place to celebrate! First off, the service was way more than what we would have expected, friendly and attentive. We had made reservations and requested a window seat, we were seated at a perfect two person booth. And the food, well lets just say I couldn't stop telling my wife how amazing it was. I had ordered the stuffed salmon with crab and shrimp...simply amazing! My wife ordered grilled salmon and it was just as delicious. Our overall anniversary experience was a 10 out of 10! Thank you Dukes for making our 24th Anniversary a night to remember. Cheers!
Dukes knocked it outta the park again! Great food. Amazing service. And an unbelievably gluten aware staff and gluten free food selections.
Birthday celebration. Food was good
Food was great, eloquent in appearance and stellar in taste. Katrina was an amazing server, too.
Everything was excellent! Seafood salad, salmon, and especially chocolate cake and berry cobbler.
Alex our waiter was great! The food, ambiance and the overall service was very good. Prices are a bit steep on the menu overall but if its being justified by the entire package (location, scenery, service) then Im willing to overlook it as long as they never stop doing what they do best
Great experience altogether!!
Great server and food!
It is by far the best chowder house around and has outstanding service, delicious food, and cant forget how amazing and delicious their drinks are. Simply the best, by far better then all the rest. 💖🤗
Sorry...the fish was dry, and the food is overpriced. The service was excellent though, and I may go back for the view.
Great food and atmosphere and even better service with a great attitude. Our server was great and gave us good recommendations from a menu she obviously knew well. The food did not disappoint.
Would definitely recommend and will definitely be back ourselves whenever we are in the area!
We experienced a very quiet evening, the quiet charm of Duke's and the amazing menu. The Salmon was outstanding and the service was unrushed and friendly. We experienced no wait for a table with a view of the Sound. We have been to Duke's before, but it seems to get better with each visit. We strongly recommend Duke's to our friends. It is the perfect restaurant on the Rustin Way waterfront. Thank you Duke's for a very pleasant evening and a delicious seafood dinner.
The food was excellent. The service was awesome. The food is expensive but it was worth every penny.
Food is great, our server was on top of everything; very patient, explained all the specials, made sure our drinks were replenished. We will most likely go again.
