Devon Seafood Grill - Chicago
Showed up late on a Sunday. Felt like we weren’t wanted.
I sat in the bar area, so I can't say whether any of what follows would be true for the restaurant itself. The wait staff was quite friendly, but service was very slow, and it wasn't clear how well the staff knew the menu. I ordered the chilled seafood platter, which was reasonably priced, but the lobster was overcooked (tough and chewy) and the king crab tasted like it had just been defrosted. The oysters were fine, and the shrimp quite good. So overall, not a big hit.
I can't wait to make my next reservation! It was an amazing experience.
Appreciate that the waiter listened when we said we were not in a rush. In past visits our food was brought out too quickly.
Enjoyed my birthday
Fantastic dinner! Our server was personable, professional and immediately offered us complimentary champagne when he realized we were celebrating our anniversary. I had the Maple glazed salmon which was cooked perfectly and one of the best tasting salmons I’ve ever had. We would definitely recommend!
Nice place in a busy Chicago location, so try to get a window seat to people watch.
Really good oysters (Petite Sweets), the Firecracker Cauliflower was excellent too.
There should be more people here because it is excellent.
It was just an unfortunate evening. Service was the worst I’ve ever experienced there.
We went for dinner to celebrate a birthday - we were very pleasantly surprised to be ushered into a private room, with a lovely card. Very nice!
Food was good. Service was horrible. Sooo slow. After one hour of sitting, finally got appetizers. Seemed to be some issue with the kitchen and server. They didn't have enough of the 6oz filets (Prix Fixe) for everyone, and then came back several times indicating no 6oz filets at all. We changed orders to go off Prix Fixe - no problem. Then they served a meal with walnuts after being told son had a nut allergy. Not good.
Waitress was not engaging. Felt like we annoying her by not deciding right away. There were 2 tables filled, since the restaurant opened at 4:00. I’ve been here many times before and the staff were very nice and warm. The kitchen forgot my lobster fir my chopped salad. It’s was suppose to be a birthday celebration. But no celebrating here.
Sadly, I’ll have to think about coming back anytime soon.
Excellent wine, food and service. Would recommend!
Excellent food and service. Will definitely go back.
Lobster and Kansas City strip steak prepared perfectly. Luke was a great waiter. He was friendly and professional.
Good food, service and ambiance
This is an average place to eat. Seafood selection is good. The food quality was no better than OK. Service was slow and inattentive. Lots of better places to spend your dining dollars in Chicago.
The food was really good!! Andbthe service was great!!!
Very comfortable feel. Great food from appetizer to desert. Service was really good and friendly too!
I went to Devon to celebrate my friend's birthday. I told the hostess two times that we were there to celebrate. Both said that they would tell our server. Nothing was mentioned in the two and a half hours that we were there. I didn't personally tell the server because my friend was sitting there. When we arrived promptly at 4 oclock (reservations were made), it truly was not crowded. When I mentioned it the second time, it still was not crowded. But, the evening crowd was coming in. I spent over a hundred dollars and a mention of happy birthday wishes should have been said. Even if I had spent $20.00, birthday wishes should have been said. I was disappointed. The food was excellent. The cocktail that we had was excellent. The server got confused when I said that I would pay the total amount on my credit card and my friend would put the tip on her credit card. The server took $20.00 off the total check, leaving us to scramble for cash for her tip. Unfortunately, if she would have listened then her tip would have been sufficient. I truly love Devon and will return.
We visited for the first time to celebrate our anniversary and the staff, food and service were outstanding and very personable. We definitely return again!!
I took myself out to dinner and decided to check out Devon Seafood and Grill. This was my first time going. Everything went well. It was a Sunday early evening and it wasn't busy. My server was nice. Food came out at a reasonable wait time. I had Crab legs, the lobster mac & cheese- I do think it was a little bit too salty however and the lemon garlic broccolini. I also had the Pacific punch. The only thing missing was music. They were having trouble with their sound system that day so it was noticeably extra quiet.
Loved the maple glazed salmon! Great service as well!
We liked the food, the service was good and the prices were reasonable. The noise level was too much. There was a large very loud party on one end of the dining room and another not as large but loud one on the other end. We could tell from the expressions from the other diners that they were also not pleased to have to listen to the noise. I’m sure this doesn’t happen on a regular basis, but for our experience there it would have been quite an enjoyable evening had these rowdy parties not taking place.
The food was delicious and the service was excellent.
I always enjoy dining here and by far this is one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago!
Devon's was very nice and the staff members were pleasant and accommodating. The food was great and arrived in a reasonable time. The front desk attendants were very nice and our waiter Sean was funny and very knowledgeable about the menu items.
Food was wonderful and the service was excellent! We are ready planning our return.
Had a wonderful pre-fix dinner of Firecracker shrimp, Maple Salmon and Creme Brûlée for dessert. It was wonderful. What made it even better was our server, Devon. He was Perfect. Lots of personality and very attentive.
Thanks OpenTable community for a great suggestion. We ordered a range of entrees, including the grilled swordfish and salmon as well as the maple salmon, and all were well prepared. The sides were also tasty. A really nice find in a wonderful, walkable area of Chicago.
Our date night dining experience was amazing. Everything was perfect, from the service to the food. If your ever vist Chicago, you should really try Devon's.
The waitress was new and repeatedly she didn’t bring our drinks my brother finally got up and got our drinks....we were very understanding
Requested a private room and the staff placed water pitchers, salt & pepper shakers, and additional glassware in our private dining area which meant constant interruptions. In addition, the hostess was constantly walking by peering into the room, it made it pretty hard to enjoy the evening - so much for date night.
We always try to have one dinner at Devon's when in Chicago. All aspects always excellent. We love the semi-private alcove's and they always honor this request. Scallops done per request. Lobster bisque great. Crab Cakes full of meat..very little, if any, breading. One of our party had the halibut and said it was wonderful. Sunday specials on wine make going on Sunday even more attractive.
We celebrated our 1 yr anniversary and it was amazing. We had a card, dessert and champagne toast all compliments of Devon. Tyler was above amazing !
Three of us ordered three different seafood entrees, one totally over cooked with no flavor, another undercooked and too much sauce and the third, obviously Pre-cooked and then heated up badly! Not seafood specialists
Server was good, friendly and accommodating.
Been here many times before. They have occasional food discount!
Went here for a birthday dinner. Setting was perfect. Food met standards. Server was very pleasant. Overall a good experience.
Excellent Food, Service, and Ambience! Love the downstairs dining room for a special dinner.
I have been to this restaurant several times over the past 2 years. The food is always well-prepared and delicious and the service is excellent. The three-course fixed menu offers large portions at a very good value.
My friend and I had a great dinner here! We took advantage of a 1 day deal for the filet oscar plate that came with crab lump sauce on top, artichoke mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus - delicious! Service was great as well! We asked to order oysters from the bar menu even though we were dining in the seating area below (which isn’t normally done), but our waitress was able to have the chef serve it to us since it was a quiet evening. Thanks Nicole!
