Dafni Greek Taverna
As always, reliable pre-theater restaurant!!
Came in, seated immediately and were served in a timely fashion, as we had theater tickets. Great restaurant. Fresh salad and delicious fish, warmed pita bread, wonderful meal
As reliable and reasonable as one can find in the theater district
The food was excellent. The staff was very pleasant and attentive. I would return for another meal.
For the proximity to Times Square, I couldn't have expected better. Great food, decent prices, excellent service. Would definitely go back.
Great selection of classic Greek dishes. Lamb shank was outstanding. Ambiance was great. We really appreciated that there was room between the tables and it wasn't too noisy to carry a conversation unlike most of the restaurants in NYC.
Excellent overall experience! Great environment for a family, or business casual dinner! AMAZING food - greek cuisine at its best!
Terrible rainy day outside. Nice and comfy in this restaurant
Service not rushed and on target
Soup hit the spot, followed by delicious grilled octopus and a tasty Greek Salad
Recommend this restaurant
Convenient Greek restaurant for pre-theater dining if you're going to a show at the American Airlines Theater. Restaurant was full and our service was a little slow, but we still made it to the theater with time to spare. Food was variable. I had the grilled shrimp and they were very good. The combination rice/spinach that came with it (I don't remember the Greek name) was excellent. One member of our party had the Greek salad with calamari and was disappointed with it. The other member had the seafood brochette and liked the shrimp but not the scallops. We shared a combo appetizer of three spreads and three small dolma. It was good but not up to some other Greek restaurants.
A good pre or post dinner destination on 42nd. This was a last minute change for us due to our other reservation being canceled. We were not disappointed and so glad they could accommodate us. Great staff and very good traditional Greek dishes.
The service her was quite good. The food was not the best Greek food I've ever eaten but it was quite good. The close proximity to the theaters is a major plus if you're going to see a show and want good Greek food.
It was decent food but nothing extraordinary. The pitas were charred in a nice way but not warm and a little soggy which was surprising. Service was good though. It is good value for what you get and a solid inexpensive pre theatre meal.
Lackluster food. Just simple basic, dull presentation. Everything was just ok. Disappointing after seeing a 4• rating.
Very happy to find a decent restaurant close to American Airlines theater on 42nd St. - it seemed that everyone in the restaurant was going to see The Rose Tattoo. Reviews had commented on how noisy the restaurant is and that is true. But the food was fine (the Mediterranean burger looked the best but no complaints about any dish - most had salads with salmon or shrimp added) and I enjoyed the traditional Greek soup.
The place was small and cute the lemon soup was delicious the food was tasty
Our shrimp was a little rubbery in texture, but the sauces were delicious. Place is also noisy. Good value and nice decor.
Had a wonderful dinner! Food and service were superb!
Delicious food, only complaint is that we had to continually flag down our waitress. She forgot our bread, water, etc.
Excellent service! Great tapas for lunch!
We enjoyed our time here.
Asked for the chicken souvlaki and it was really bad, I would not recommend this restaurant at all
This is the second time we’ve eaten at this restaurant. We ate here in 2017 on a visit to New York and decided that a return visit was warranted based on our prior experience.
This time of the restaurant was very busy and very loud, in particular the table next to us. We enjoyed our appetizers of grilled octopus (highly recommend) and domaldes. My wife had the gyro plate — tender and tasty while I opted for the moussaka. The moussaka has a good flavor but was over done and relatively thin. The bechamel sauce on top thought was excellent. The dish was accompanied by a Greek salad that was fresh and crispy with a good dressing and very decent feta.
Our server was attentive both in taking our order and checking on us. Overall a decent experience.
Great food, well prepared, a nice place to meet up with friends. Convenient to theaters and the Javits Center.
We have had dinner here before. This is a perfect location for dinner before a show. The excellent menu has something for everyone. An extensive menu of fresh fish and meat and poultry dishes and lighter fare offers something for every appetite and taste. I had the red snapper and my wife had the seafood brochette. The snapper was perfectly prepared, served at my request, filleted with potatoes. The seafood brochettes was also perfectly prepared and with potatoes. Both dishes were nicely plated and presented. Not to leave out a note on the service, from entering the restaurant, to being seated and served, all was top notch. And, I cannot leave out yah at all was for a very reasonable price. So. For your next dinner in the theatre district area, consider choosing Dafni Greek Taverna; you will be glad you did!
Yummy Greek food excellent service
Will add to my return to New York restaurants
Quiet, hidden gem , delicious salads and spinach pie
I met some friends for brunch at Dafni. We came shortly after opening, and the place was empty. We had a lovely table, attentive service, and delicious food - all without the deafening noise that is the hallmark of a NYC dining experience. By the time we left, the restaurant was full, but the noise level was still conducive to civil conversation. I will be back, and soon.
Never disappoints us! We look forward to eating there each time we come to New York!
Great place to go before a show
Great food and service!
A very convenient place to go for a meal when going to one of the theaters between 9th and 10th avenues. The grilled octopus is particularly good, the atmosphere is very casual and easy.
Food was excellent. Best Greek salad dressing ever
Excellent! All the dishes we ordered were fabulous. Truly.
The bifteki were very good. The gyros was ok. The souvlaki were terrible flavorless pieces of dry pork. Very disappointing. We let the waitress know, but she didn't offer any solution. First and last visit for us.
We had a wonderful meal. Every was just like Greece. We came to NYC on vacation from Chicago but are natives of Greece. We will be back!
I am usuAlly very happy with this restaurant but this week the food was awful. Overlooked and unseasoned. Guess the chef was on vacation!
This location was close to work so easy to get in and out before the crowds. The food was very good and seasoned much like we find in Greece. If you need a "Greek" fix this is the place!
Dafni Greek Taverna was a refreshing surprise to find during our visit to Times Square NYC and very closed to the Westin Hotel. We ate Tapas style and finished up with baby lamb chops that were cooked to perfection. The Greek wine was excellent and compimented the entire meal. Look forward to returning next time I'm in NYC.
Well - very easy to rate. This was my/ours 2nd visit at the restaurant. Very delicious food - and especially great Greek wines!! the best Greek experience out off Greece. Nice place - even in the middle of NYC. I do recommend this little restaurant to people visiting Manhattan.
Excellent moderately-priced restaurant in the Theater District. Chef is good at making lamb and salmon medium-rare even though most Greeks prefer them well-done.
