The Connaught Room at Ashford Castle
The Connaught Room is flanked with floor to ceiling windows commanding spectacular views of the Castle’s manicured gardens and the magnificent Lough Corrib. The room captivates guests with its inspiring Donegal Crystal chandelier, panelled oak walls and a hand carved fireplace.
The menu offers our guests a delightful selection of speciality teas, delicate finger sandwiches with traditional fillings, warm scones, hand-made pastries and cupcakes decorated with lovingly hand-picked wild flowers from the Estate by our Head Pastry Chef, Paula Stakelum.
The Connaught room is stunning, staff was very friendly but difficult to get their attention. Also didn’t have high chair prepared despite putting a request when booking. Overall lovely experience
The tea was served in a beautiful setting with impeccable service. We took advantage of arriving early to tour the castle grounds and garden, which were fabulous. The experience was very lovely and every thing was wonderful. We would love to do it again!
Had a fabulous afternoon tea - food of the highest standard and as much tea and coffee as you wanted. The staff were so lovely and the experience of being in Ashford Castle just made it for us. The only quibble was that we would preferred the coffee to be served in a pot instead of an individual cup and had to ask for more coffee but would not hesitate to come back again. We were given some chocolates after we finished. I recommend anyone to gave an afternoon tea with a special ambience or celebrating a special occasion to come here
It was the most amazing experience, we both loved the high tea as well as exploring the beautiful hotel and gardens.
We were thrilled to see the tour bus being piped in, something we would never experience at home.
Thank you so much for the
Elegant experience. Felt like the cast of Downton Abbey would join us at any moment. A must if you are visiting this area of Ireland. We did the falconry and then followed up with afternoon tea. The sandwiches, pastries, teas were delicious and filling. The castle was like no other. Yes it is expensive but it was well worth the experience and to just see the inside of the castle.
This was something my Wife and I had been discussing for years, so glad to have finally done it. It was everything we hoped.
The whole experience was an absolute delight for us from start to finish, apart from one of our party who had an abscess under a tooth (nothing to do with the Ashford Castle). However, the day was saved by the Concierge who obtained an emergency appointment at a nearby Dental Practice, within 30 minutes.
Service doesn’t get much better than that.
The food and service we both delightful! I would definitely recommend this experience!
We went for high tea after our hawk walk. Everything was just fabulous AND they have a gluten free option as well. The setting is gorgeous and serene. Highly recommend.
Took my sons girlfriend as a treat on a dull Sunday afternoon.Absoloutely perfect from beginning to end.We were escorted by the charming doorman to the Connaught Room, beautiful setting and delightful staff, delicious food beautifully presented-my guest said that she felt like a princess!Well done Ashford..
Our experience with Afternoon Tea was spectacular !! The staff was amazing and very professional. The room was beautiful and made the experience so memorable!
Excellent service...beautiful surroundings and substantial/delicious food offerings that you may not expect during an afternoon tea!
We had a lovely afternoon in the Ashford Castle‘s afternoon tea. Beginning with the champagne was a nice touch. All of the food was spectacular, much too much to eat all of for two people. We really loved the cheddar scones with the lemon curd! Wonderful! The sweets were lovely and tasty. The view overlooking Lough Corrib was spectacular! Wonderful way to spend a special afternoon.
It was a grand experience. Very attentive service.
Great service and hotel was beautiful. Thank you for a great time!
Delicious food, very well presented in a lovely setting. Friendly, attentive service although rather a long wait for the scones (was told 10 minutes but it must have been more like 20 or 30).
Everything gorgeous! An afternoon tea at Ashford Castle followed by a few steps in the gardens and a promenade in Cong is an outstanding experience.
Fab from start to finish a real treat
Children’s menu very impressive and a real hit
It was an incredible experience.
My wife and I had a wonderful time during the High Tea. We loved the setting, enjoyed the specialty teas and foods. It was a wonderful and memorable experience! It was one-of-a-kind!
We had a lovely afternoon tea, however for the location & price, I’d have expected better service. We’d flagged in advance this was a celebratory occasion but it wasn’t acknowledged.
We had to repeatedly ask for anything we needed, ie fresh tea, more milk etc. and the wait time for simple requests like milk/butter was very slow considering they should have been quite easy to provide.
A substitution was required on the sandwiches for one of the party due to an allergy and the alternative sandwich given was the cheapest substitute, ie the wagu beef was substituted for a 2nd egg mayonnaise. Even had the choice been given to the guest about which they’d like a second of as a substitute, it would have been appreciated.
Even when it came to paying, 4 of the party left the table 10 minutes after we’d asked for bill, and it was still about 10/15 minutes before waiter returned to take payment, and that was after asking a second time, and trying to catch someone’s attention for quite some time.
Tea service had been booked out several weeks in advance but it seemed like staff were understaffed/unprepared for dealing with a full room.
The setting is beautiful, it’s priced on par with other leading 5 star hotels in Ireland but we’ve definitely experienced better service from others, which was disappointing.
Had it not been a special occasion, and were we not enjoying our own company, I would have raised much more concerns on the day, but thinking back over the day, I definitely would have expected more.
A lovely, memorable afternoon in a beautiful spot. Staff are very welcoming and friendly.
The overall afternoon was lovely and my guests thoroughly enjoyed it as it was a surprise treat for three elderly relatives and they were delighted. However, considering two of the three are on crutches and the third a walking stick, there is no designated disabled parking. We had to park quite a distance from the entrance which is up 4/5 steep steps. They were clearly having issues climbing with their equipment. No mention was made of the alternative entrance with a ramp. As I was helping my Dad, a fellow guest helped my Aunt, nothing from the doorman. When I asked where was the disabled parking bays, he shrugged his shoulders and said, they all are... Clearly not when it a 5 minute walk on crutches. You could easily have designated bays beside the entrance. Having recently being to Adare Manor with my Dad, where his disability was no issue... My guests didn't complain, they were thrilled, I just think it could have been handled better....
Lovely experience all around! Favorite experience of our trip to Ireland.
I've come to the castle twice with guests that were visiting from out of country. The experience is mostly worth it, however the food is honestly quite poor. Some of the desserts were very good, but the sandwiches and scones were less interesting than what we make at home and were very boring and low quality. The meats taste old, and there isn't any exciting quality to them.
I do recommend High Tea as it's a great experience to see the castle, Cong, and experience a lovely time in a beautiful setting. But the food needs a bit of work.
I'm writing this review in a fair and very honest capacity. Without doubt the Hotel and grounds are simply splendid. The character of the hotel inside and out is exceptional. The staff and welcome is quality Irish and unique.
Above said, the afternoon tea was a big disappointment. The fare served was very paltry. Tasty? Yes. 5 star afternoon tea service? No. Dromoland Castle for instance is far superior. I can explain the differences at a later date if you would prefer that.
Wow what a treat. While touring Ireland I scheduled an afternoon tea at Ashford Castle for my wife and I. It was an absolute perfect afternoon. Service and attention to detail is spot on. We didn't need dinner as we were stuffed after all the treats. Enjoyed a walk around the stunning grounds. Well worth the price.
Absolutely amazing castle and grounds. This is the nicest place we have ever visited. Service was Irish awesome.
As tourists (Belgian), not familiar with the concept of an afternoon tea, we (two adults and three children) cannot rate this experience less than perfection. We could recommend this to anyone, looking for an experience that is a bit different, a bit exclusive , but still with a warm and welcoming feeling, thanks to the staff, serving us during our afternoon tea: thanks for this perfect afternoon!
It was a nice experience but little things let it down. I would tell them to go to the gardens then ho and have tea and pastrys at the tea room on site....
Wonderful atmosphere and view. High-quality sandwiches, scones and sweets. Aromatic tea. "Baby Shark" being played at the neighbouring table was slightly annoying.
Excellent experience with lovely food & atmosphere. Lovely touch giving box chocolate.
Lovely atmosphere, incredibly helpful and friendly staff. Price per portion is a little more than expected.
Mother’s Day Gift
Absolutely amazing! We were treated like royalty and enjoyed every minute of it! I highly recommend a visit for a luxurious afternoon tea. The jasmine tea was delicious as were all the yummy desserts.
Lovely afternoon with friends. Lovely food. Highly recommend
Unbelievably the beat high tea experience I have ever had. The ambience is more appreciated with every turn and the attention to detail phenomenal. Amazing piece of history and an incredible place!
this was my second time having afternoon tea in Ashford castle .I was very disappointed as the service was poor.we had to ask several times for things which was forgotten or mixed up. it did impact on our experience and it was not worth the money due to the poor service.
Really great afternoon tea, huge tea selection and the pastries were delicious as well. It's nice to be able to explore the castle ground after feeling full from the afternoon tea. Staff are all very friendly. The Connaught Room is really beautiful.
A beautiful place. Hard to describe how good this is without visiting. Magnificent building on the edge of one of the best loughs' anywhere in the world. Gardens perfect and extremely spacious. Staff very friendly and professional and not stuffy despite its grandeur. A worthwhile experience.
