This is my go to 'escape' place for lunch. Love love the food and the staff is great
We had brunch before the opera and it was delicious. This has become out regular spot for the Sunday matinee at the lyric.
Always great! Get the bread platter, you won’t be disappointed. Best croissants in Chicago.
Ok for lunch if you’re in a hurry to get back to your office. Nothing special, nothing awful.
Went to Cochon Volant for breakfast. The food is so good !!! Service could have been better, though.
Great atmosphere and excellent food choices. I would definitely recommend a friend.
I had the mussels and frites. They were superb. I asked about the broth and was told it was made with pink peppercorns, paprika, white wine, garlic, and shallots. They were the best I've ever had, just the right amount of heat. Another person had the caesar salad and raved about it. There are so many times the caesar salad just doesn't have much zing to it. This was a perfect creamy dressing. Service was also great.
Really nice dining experience. Highly recommend. We shall return.
We actually ate at the bar, but Annie was outstanding and friendly. Food was great. Escargot was outstanding! Will definitely go back!
Excellent dependable food and service. Definitely a ‘go to ‘ spot during the week
I was there for brunch. After telling the server to make sure the food was hot, he brought a plate of cold hollandaise sauce, lukewarm poached eggs, a soggy English muffin and cold (raw) spinach and potatoes. Everything was very salty and basically not appetizing. The restaurant half full and we had to ask twice for water and waited for our bill for ten minutes. It was my second time there...I was not impressed with it the first time but there is not many places for brunch near Symphony Hall. I will not be coming back. .
Cochon Volant has an interesting menu with something for everyone. We had the shrimp cocktail, oysters, 2 filets and 2 pasta dishes. All were very good and very fresh!
Delicious and wonderful.in every way. A perfect venue for steak frites, roast chicken and escargot.
Way too much attitude from our server, even from a French restaurant. We were going to order food, but midway through our coffee the server came by and said he had to take off, so we had to close out. The vibe was definitely that we were expected to leave. Do not plan to ever return.
Food was great and the service was just as good. Make sure to try the ‘panier volant’
We went there pre-Lyric (aren't too many places left for a good pre-Opera House dinner) on a Saturday at 5:00pm so the place was pretty empty. Rather than being seated in the white tablecloth dining room we were seated in the bar/bistro area which was actually a better place. More activity and more people started to get seated and it's a very nice room. The escargot starter was very good but it could have used more garlic for our taste. I had the Beef Short Rib which I would not hesitate in recommending. Interestingly, it was kind of a rectangular piece. No time for dessert, had to make the pre-program lecture! About 3 blocks from the Lyric. Try it.
I've been for lunch midweek and always enjoyed it. Going on a Saturday was a mistake. The place was empty and the tables were not set. I honestly felt like I was imposing when requesting a table. Totally different dining experience when the place is mostly empty. I might suggest going to a bare-bones menu on the weekends, as I know it supports the Hyatt next door.
Great for a business lunch, or just meeting friends. Soups are amazing. Mussels are plum and well prepared. Hanger steaks are highly recommended. All deserts are worth the calories. Our wait staff was attentive, but not in the way. Very positive vib among the customers.
Very poor vegetarian selection. Minimal guidance on ordering. Took a long time to get food. Service was good otherwise. Crowded and cold.
Food was great. Service was very lackluster. Not one offer of a refill on coffee (we were there for about an hour). Ordered a side of a few sliced tomatoes to go with my omelette and was charged $5 for a side of avocado. When I brought it to the servers attention, he seemed annoyed. Overall just not a great experience. There are many great brunch places in the area. We will not be going back.
Avocado toast was delicious. Definitely quieter atmosphere than lunch or dinner.
French American cuisine with an upscale Euro bistro flair. Unique variety and generous portions made for a very satisfying brunch. Service was pleasant and efficient leaving plenty of time for us to make it to the Shakespeare theatre well within our planned timeframe. Definitely will return, bon appétit!
Nice French place for Sunday brunch.
We enjoyed our Sunday morning breakfast. Pastries were delicious, as were both of our entrees. Coffee was good too!
I would not recommend the fresh oysters. The pasta was very good.
Great dinner during restaurant week on a Friday night. Really loud due to other diners shrieking and yelling. But good food and service. Wasn’t crowded. Got a reservation easily.
Enjoyed our meal. The server was nice. Water refill always seemed to land on the table. One item ordered was never brought out but also never appeared on the bill. It was fine in hindsight. The old school wooden frame chairs were not the most comfortable and lacked back support. I think I would try a barstool next time.
We did like the location and the french onion soup, mussels, salmon were all delicious.
I ordered a chicken Caesar salad where it was very hard to find any chicken.
The decline of the steak salad is sad. Used to be actual pieces of steak you would cut into and large pieces of bacon. Now the “steak” looks like beef jerky and there is no bacon. I’ve probably been there 12-15 times. Not anymore though.
Always great food and service. Quick and easy for a business lunch.
Fries were not hot and the sauce was lacking in the usual garlic flavor. Beef was very good.
Sunday dinner after the opera. Lovely ambience, classic food good service.
Perfect for casual dining or an event. Very French.
Steak Frites was excellent. The wait staff was superb. Friendly, unobtrusive, and attentive. Our party of Four was dining before a visit to the Chicago Theatre and slightly pressed for time. The service was quick and we had plenty of time to enjoybour meals. I will certatinly return many times.
Food was really delicious and presentation was very nice. Service was also very good. Ambiance of restaurant was nice - easy to carry on a conversation. Although meal prices seemed reasonable, the drink prices were really high.
Very quick service for a business lunch and very reasonable prices for a loop lunch spot.
I first went here three years ago, and I loved it. Each subsequent time I've been back it's gone downhill just a little. The food was just okay. I got the bacon Benedict, and it needed a lot of salt along with the potatoes, which needed catsup because they were dried out. The feel of the place was just a little depressing. None of the employees were very happy (which is usually not their faults). The paper menus were stained with food and coffee rings. I'm all for reusing, but maybe put it in a sleeve, laminate it, or put it under the glass table top? All in all, I probably won't be back. I've give it plenty of tries in the last 3 years.
French Onion Soup, Orecchiete and Short Ribs all outstanding. Ribs based on our very friendly and helpful waitress’ recommendation. Great service.
Service was horrible.
