Feels French but is familiar too. The escargot was uniquely prepared and delicious. The salads are also unique and very tasty. Service was outstanding. Friendly Attentive. Helpful. The ambience is charming. With the closing of Bistro Zinc, this little bistro is a welcome French inspired spot.
The food was good. The service was good. The setting was good. What more could you want? It was a great experience.
It was a decent breakfast, but it is not someplace I would go again. The chocolate waffle was very tough and chewy. It was supposed to have Nutella whipped cream on it, but the cream was definitely not whipped, as it was poured on the waffle.
Dull, hotel restaurant vibe. No sense anyone really wanted to be there - servers, and from the food, the cooks too.
Great lunch with family. Food was hot and fresh, great service
Great pre-Hamilton dining & atmosphere! Our waiter even charged my phone as my tickets were on my very near “dead” phone! Great mussels!!!!
Beautiful decor, lovely ambiance, wonderful menu, outstanding food, attentive servers.
Our server Justin was very accommodating and helpful with a food allergy request.
Great experience, with some special food items. Would definitely go again.
Food was more on quantity than quality. The server was very pleasant. The wines were above average.
Regular Hotel lobby bar and dinning. Located inside Hyatt.
The food was OK but the atmosphere was poor The service was mediocre
Excellent food with great cocktails and wine; a little loud/crowded for our conversation.
The service was excellent but the food was "meh". No reason to return to this place.
A nice alternative for lunch with business colleagues. Tasty food, nicely prepared, very fresh. Nice décor and vibe. Had a great (French accented) waiter. Only buzz kill was that the hostess who greeted us and showed us to our table was a total sour puss, not a smile or welcoming comment. Regardless, am going back, maybe she was having a bad day or a migraine but if its a common occurrence, not the way to greet your customers. Cheers.
Great food. Great service - Steven was able to provide us with both food and drink recommendations. We saw it before walking to see Hamilton, and they paced out our food nicely to make sure we were out on time.
Great location and ambiance. High prices but probably typical for the area. Service could be improved.
This is one of our favorite local spots.
Very nice food that is reliable and well prepared.
Service is sometimes a bit lax, but usually friendly.
We went for a late dinner. Service was prompt, efficient, and courteous. The Old Fashioned cocktail was really good. We had the steak tartar and the chicken liver pâté as appetizers, both of which were delicious and came with great country bread thick slices, toasted. We then shared a ribeye with fries, perfectly cooked to medium rare.
We had the classic steak and the short ribs, one shared side of spinach, drinks, coffee, one shared dessert. Enjoyed great service; reasonably priced items selected. Pre-theater dining. We are open to returning.
Service very poor
We enjoyed our meal, time was 5:30 on a Thursday and bar area was extremely busy with after work people enjoying themselves. Service for our meal was very good.
But, quite nosy for a dinner area which is really part of the bar and bar table area.
If going for a meal, would suggest a bit later when the after work crowd has thinned out.
Nice place for a business lunch or catching up with an old friend. Convenient location in the middle of The Loop. Variety of menu options.
A very different experience than our visit last spring. Gave ourselves 1 hour and 45 minutes to dine and then be at the theatre (one block away). Very few tables were occupied when we arrived but waited a long time for order to be taken. Took a long time for salads to arrive (but were very good). After salads cleared, it took 35 minutes to get entrees (and after noting we were on a time line). When entrees arrived we had only 15 minutes to eat and race to theatre. Roast chicken bordered on underdone — apparently the victim of trying to rush it out. The couple next to us complained (they were having the same experience) and management comped their entire meal. We did not even receive a “sorry for the delay”. So disappointed as this place was excellent at our last visit.
Arrived early and the restaurant was able to accommodate us. Loved the food and the service and will definitely tell friends about Cochon Volant!
I was so excited to dine here, but my overall experience was very disheartening. The hostess was quite rude and unfriendly. She threw our menus down when she sat us at our table. Our server was short with us and seemed to rush us with our order. I was actually worried to even ask questions about the menu as he was very disengaged. I am quite upset about my entire dinning experience here.
The hostess set the tone by not smiling and not being friendly.
We love their brunch Eggs Benedict, but we’re disappointed that the poached eggs were very inconsistent. This is the second time we’ve had a combination of perfect poach, hard boiled poach and I even had one egg with no yolk. Last time we sent them back but didn’t have time to wait this last visit. Next time I’ll remind them in advance because the food is otherwise delicious and service is great.
Wonderful for brunch. Pastries are excellent, as are the omelettes and croque madame
Seeing a friend
Very disappointing. Meat was overcooked. Mussels tasted stale.
Excellent venue for lunch prior to Hamilton . Food and service outstanding. Especially recommend French onion soup
Pre theatre dining. Cozy in a cold rainy night. Enjoyable place
Service was slow on a not very busy day at lunchtime. The food was good and the staff was friendly. Mostly good for the very convenient location in the Central Loop.
Handy for a quick bite on the way into the Loop from Union Station. Interesting atypical lunch offerings such as croque- monsieur egg rolls. Add a side salad, and the moules appetizer is substantial enough for lunch—but if heat and spice are NOT your thing, choose something else. Our waiter, Freddy, was attendant in the midst of the lunch rush
Had the orecchiette pasta — Food was mediocre.
Cochon Volant has been a favorite since it opened in the Loop. We love breakfast, lunch and dinner. A comfortable and dependable spot any time during the day and the menu truly has something for everyone. Today we decided to take a very long walk to go to breakfast. We have multiple options nearby for good breakfast, but we have beloved menu items at Cochon - our favorite eggs benedict and delicious omelettes and waffles. Honestly it's difficult to choose. Even the toast from fresh baked daily bread is always worth the splurge. Great service and classic brasserie ambiance.
Excellent; food is beautiful.
This restaurant is in the lobby of a large hotel chain - and the lack of attention by the staff to the diner's experience showed that. The food was so-so. The halibut special had great potential but was overcooked and dry on the outer edges. Most shocking was that our bill came (for 2 people) with the gratuity ALREADY ADDED at 20%. The service was poor, and the "mistake" by adding the gratuity from the waiter was hardly that. We will never go back.
