Their breakfast is much better than their lunch
For lunch appetizers we're OK ,but salads didn't taste right
I didn't like the cocktail
Wonderful restaurant in a beautiful quaint hotel right on the ocean. Sat outside it did get a little chilly, recommend bringing light sweaters or coats. Our service from Roland was perfect!
we had a nice time at this restaurant the food was just okay. The service was good and the decor and atmosphere were nice and very clean. The price was a bit much for what it was and the portions where a bit small. but I expected this when I realized it was in a hotel.
Coast is very pretty and the service is good and overall we had a pleasant experience. But on the website and all over the restaurant and menu, they promote their "happy hour" which is a good deal--the prices are very different from the regular ones. But we were informed once we were there that you can only get those prices if you sit at the bar--which is inside and only has stool side-by-side seating. Since we were a group of three, that didn't work for us and our drinks and snacks ended up being wildly expensive. I would never have booked a table there if I had known that happy hour was limited to a few seats at the bar--something they never make clear ANYWHERE. So I won't be going back
Cioppino was phenomenal. Nice ambiance, beautiful views, staff is friendly and courteous, featured beers are delicious. We had a wonderful dinner!
The waiter brought entrees before the appetizers. The real issues is my displeasure with the snafu was met with Indifference. The waiter was offended that I was upset with the fact that my wine took forever and the entrees were served very fast and before the appetizers. It was appalling service. My glass of wine took forever to arrive at table. The waiter asked another waiter to serve the table. The second waiter was very nice and tried to make up for the incompetence of first one. Still it was as if every one pretended like this was no big deal. Meanwhile the first waiter had issues with other table. Good god. Horrible shocking experience. The swordfish was tough not very I good. Don’t get sword fish. I expected more. I was going to book room to stay in the hotel but left feeling lucky I did not
Beautiful ocean view for our first day of vacation in LA from Minnesota! Loved our lunch on the patio, had a delicious Cobb salad and prime rib sandwich.
Coast is the lower level cafe at Shutters in Santa Monica. It is located right on the water so the ocean views are excellent, while the prices are a little lower than the upstairs main dining room. Thus, it's a little more casual too.
Food is very good - much like a high end country club. Great salads, sandwiches and main courses. All made from scratch; however, the Mac and cheese lacks flavor and we our waiter agreed. Otherwise, excellent for sunset light dinner before walking on the beach or board walk.
Great date night or date brunch location. Make reservation because this is a popular place to be in summer.
Very nice oceanfront dining. Staff is very friendly. Good food.
Great place to hang out and talk business.
Solid food (although a bit overpriced); lobster roll was OK, Tuna tartar was excellent. Drinks were good but pricey as well. Ambiance/view/setting can’t be beat & justify the $$$.
Service was an A++. Lucinda was outstanding! Catered to our needs, made recommendations, was spot on and our 9 year old daughter couldn’t have been happier with her clam chowder & fries.
The atmosphere was great, the place is very nice itself.
The food and service was very good
Coast was amazing! My fiance and I are getting married at Shutters on the Beach and we wanted to bring our families to see our venue. The food is delicious, the ambiance was great, and service was (and always is) incredible!
Lovely location, decent food, high prices
Wonderful location and great attentive service! The food is very good and there is something for everyone, including kids.
It’s always impossible to find a restaurant that excels in quality of food and atmosphere/views. I was at Coast for Friday night dinner with a reservation, which didn’t seem necessary once we got there because there were plenty of seatings available. We were sat right away by the windows as requested and was greeted by the server.
Overall... the service was good but quality of food for what it’s worth wasn’t. While the food prices range between $30-40, I was disappointed by the small portion sizes and bland dishes.
I would maybe return to enjoy the ocean views and have a drink but unfortunately not for the food.
We were late and there was no outdoor table, so we accepted an indoor table by the window. Within a few minutes the hostess came to us and offered us a table outside, which was lovely.
My huband, mother and I really enjoyed our meals. Our waiter was charming and fun. He was, however, overworked. We didn't see any other waitstaff around, but he did a good job keeping up with all of the tables. The food was great, and the location and view were awesome. It was like a mini vacation.
Great view. Friendly waiters and great service. But very ordinary food, nothing spectacular for the price.
Food was wonderful and the abvince was beautiful.
Our waitress was horrible, not attentive, took 25 minutes to retrieve napkins, over all service was much better a a low end restaurant like Chili’s . The manager Liz was a delight and hopefully next time we will get a better waitress who actually enjoys her job “eyes rolling in head”
Service not great. Mains arrived as we were still eating our appetiser. Then no server for 40 mins as one went on a break and was replaced by another who just ignored us. Food was nice and fresh and stunning setting but given this place was recommended by friends of ours, I expected better
A perfectly informal and relaxed seaside venue. A competent kitchen, dedicated staff, and extraordinary house made butterscotch make it a SoCal gem.
Great steak frites, the strip steak was cooked as ordered.
Great patio setting just off beach. Food was very nice though overpriced. Service was outstanding and we were pleased overall with our little anniversary splurge.
Our waiter was very cordial and refreshingly funny. Not intrusive. Perfect service and atmosphere.
Food was delicious as well!
Ok dokey fine dandy
The location is great! Food was ok, nothing special, tasted good, but no wow. We sat outside and there were a lot of little birds flying around the table and almost jumped up on the table while we were eating trying to get to our food...that took away a lot of the overall experience.
We are visiting from Austin and I chose you because of your location, moderate prices and reviews. We had a lovely dinner with our daughter. We loved the decor of the dining room, and being able to see outside to the beach. Our server couldn't have been better, prompt but no rushing and checked on our meal after we had a few minutes to try it. Our meals were delicious.
It was our neighbor’s 85th birthday. We wanted to do something special for her. We bought her an armful of roses and invited her to a Happy Hour at The Shutters since she goes to bed early. It was Wednesday, usually their seafood bar day but for whatever reason it was not available that day. We arrived at 5:50p and the waiter was clearly dismayed at our request for the happy hour menu which ended at 6p. We ended up ordering a glass of wine from the Happy Hour menu and the rest from the regular menu. The food and wine were fine, the ambience always enjoyable, and the service impeccable. All would have been delightful had it not been for the attitude of the head waiter. When he asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu our neighbor inquired, it was her birthday, would the kitchen perhaps have a special treat for her on her special day? The waiter looked at her long and hard - surprise quickly turned into condescension when he replied that she could only have whatever her friends (we) would order for her. We were stunned by the arrogance with which he delivered the message. Now it’s up to you to decide whether a snobby place is what you’re looking for. As for us, we’re not going back.
Fantastic food. Cerviche and fish and chips in particular. Were outstanding!
The service, view and vibe at Coast is excellent. We really enjoyed our time there. The food was above average, however, I think the prices are a bit high for what you get. But we still enjoyed. xoxo
Whenever I’m in Santa Monica I always love having lunch at Coast.
Lovely and relaxing. Fantastic service and the food was delicious.
We came here for lunch on a Sunday and it was lively and fun! Great location on the beach. Yummy food and outstanding service. Our waitress was always checking on us to make sure we were happy. Prices are a bit high but this is Santa Monica on the beach. Location is close enough to take a short walk to the pier. We enjoyed ourselves and will be back.
Great, casual dining place. Excellent service and good food. Hard not to have a great time.
Always wonderful !!
Beach side dining
Food was decent to subpar. Ordered a chicken caesar where the "grilled" chicken looked like it had been frozen and reheated creating a nice rubbery texture. Romain lettuce was stale.
They ran out of 2 types of rose wine and it was only 12:30 p.m.
Hostess said she would come get us when our table was ready. She forgot.
Valet gets completed jammed up when busy.
Mediocre food and service and way overpriced, avoid this place for dinner.
An enchanting spot, unpretentious yet luxurious, relaxed and beachy; it seems to embody the whole spirit of Southern California!
Except for the server forgetting to bring whipped cream for one of our party’s delectable Lemon Ricotta Pancakes, it was a wonderful meal.
