It's a very elegant restaurant with a big band playing. The only missing was a cigarette holder and cigarette. It really feels like back in the day in an elegant way.
This is probably THE best fine dining Italian restaurant /club in DTLA in a historic building
This was a full experience. Ginger and her orchestra were fantastic! The bus ride over the grapevine was well worth the visit to Cicada from the Central Valley (Merced, Ca. Specifically). It would have been really nifty to get a tour of the upper rooms, if any are still decorated. Elevator ride to the Penthouse view would be worth another ticket too. Great venue, I will absolutely be back. thank you.
The food was very good and the service was top notch. We are visiting from NYC and so glad we found this gem of a place. Ginger and the Hoosier Daddy’s played great vintage tunes
Cicada was just as beautiful as I imagined. It is truly a hidden gem. I just wish there were more places like this.
The place is amazing, loved everything about this establishment.
Delightful! The food was great the band was awesome it was very enjoyable! I am definitely coming back!
high class restaurant. The meal is very nice. As you know, this restaurant was used in the movie of Pretty Woman. If you like the movie, you should go.
We had a reservation for a Friday night and were the only dinners at the restaurant for the entire evening. This is a big place!
Guess if you come on one of the few nights they have live music, it could be fun (we sat in silence for 3.5 hours.)
The food was marginal at best. The waiter was nice.
This is one of the most beautiful Art Deco restaurants and dance floors in Los Angeles. Many movies have been shot here. Coming here is an amazing experience with live bands and performances
It is a nice venue recommended for its live music. The music and dancing was very good. The food was also very good. Service wasn’t snappy but not bad.
I would recommend this place for private parties and events. Food and cocktails are expensive for their menu offerings.
It was so amazing! The most beautiful Restaurant to have a Dinner & the Manager was so courteous! We are thankful for this beautiful Evening here!
Unique LA experience! We came because of the location - amazing James Oviatt Building with Laulique-designed elements, as well as for the live jazz, and thoroughly enjoyed spending an evening there! and we were pleasantly surprised that the food was quite decent, and friendly and thoughtful service. We will come again!!
Everything is really good. Had a lot of fun. Definitely Will go back
Really bizarre experience. Booked for a Thursday night 8.30pm ish. Arrived to be the only diners in the place. The Cicada is big! It was random. Service and food was good but to be honest to be in this venue alone we should have been told to be given choice of sitting alone or dining in a busy restaurant!
What a great night at the cicada club! The music, the dancing, the everything was perfect. It is the greatest place to go for a birthday party, or for any reason!
We saw the Jive Aces here and came early to eat. I didn’t expect the food to be any good BUT the food was outstanding! I would come eat here without any music. My Pasta with Tiger Shrimp was amazing
Absolutely worth every cent. It was the highlight to my birthday week. The food was surprisingly excellent. Richard ,
the restaurant manager could not have been more helpful or accommodating.
The only negative is that our table was on the side of the stage and right next to the band. It was awkward to watch and quite loud at times. I would have liked to have been further away from the band and more centered to the stage.
All in all it was an outstanding evening. I would go.back in a heartbeat!
Too few people, lack of synergy. Grand Restaurant I loved going to from the times of I’L Rex
Food was great value was good choices were limited because of fix menu
I like this place and the service and food are great. However, here's my issue: I paid $40 for a live show and another $180 for dinner and we were stuck at a table with a huge pillar between us and the band while several tables with clear views of the band were open all night. We asked for a better view and were denied. Honestly, it makes you feel like a 2nd class citizen when you take your date out for a fantastic night of food and live music, and you're unnecessarily sat at a table with no view of the band when you could have been easily moved to a table with a better view. At least 4 to 5 tables remained unoccupied and we were denied sitting at those tables because they weren't in the server's area. What kind of message does that send? Seriously. It was lame. It felt very pretentious and disrespectful and the fact that after all these years, management hasn't found a way to organize tables so everyone has a view of the band that they additionally paid for is really dumb. By the way, this was my 2nd time there and the same thing happened last time. It's almost like couples aren't respected the same as larger groups or celebrities. I won't be going back.
Got engaged there.
Richard & the staff couldn't have been more hospitable!
An unforgettable experience!
Awesome atmosphere. Food great. The show is amazing.
Great experience. Plus: service was outstanding, music was fantastic. Minus: the room was uncomfortably cold. Food was above average.
Worst service ever, RUSHED through the entire dinner, reservations at 7:45 done by 8:20 AMAZING how horrible this experience was, debating about calling American Express and disputing charges.
Be prepared to be transported back in time to the rolling 1920s as this place certainly does it right. As soon as the doorman (even dressed as if it's 1920s) opens those magical doors, you'll feel like you have just traveled back in time to an era that was glamorous and time stands still. The decor was marvelous from the dining area to the bar, the announcer was classic as can be, even the elevator operator was perfect. Everyone was kind and helpful as well as the waiters/waitresses. Eventhough I wished time stood still, it went by fast and you know the saying; time passes quickly when you are having a good time. be prepared to spend money if you are having dinner since it is a fixed dinner but it is worth it if you are into swing jazz. Dust off your best suits and glamour dresses as you will need to dress nicely as everyone else will be and you will not want to be left out.
I was recommended this restaurant by an acquaintance. Heard really good things until I went and experienced it myself. Maybe it wasn’t a great experience because it was Valentine’s Day and perhaps they were short staffed or didn’t expect all the amount of people that went, but bottom line it was one of the worse services that I’ve had. Our main entree took about 45 minutes to arrive, we never got the dessert that we paid for and the server only came around about three times. The music was amazing though, I gotta give credit to the band that was playing that night.
A great place for a fun evening. We had the prix fixe menu that limited our choices. One entre was sub-par, but the rest of the food was good.
The servers were very accommodating of our request to change tables
Cicada is a beautiful old Art Deco building and the band was very good. Both those things made for a very romantic setting for a date night. I saw the night's Valentine's Day menu online the night before and was looking forward to it. The meal left much to be desired. The first course tiger shrimp was bland and tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. The second course risotto smelled funky and also seemed lukewarm. Both my fiancé and I ordered the sea bass for our main course and it was not fresh and hers was rubbery. I will not be going back to Cicada for dinner considering the food's sub par quality. It is such a beautiful room though, so we will be back another night just to dance.
Loved the music and the service!
an excellent experience love it! i went there with my husband to celebrate valentines days
The ambiance was electric, there was a Swing band playing, they were really good. The food is delicious. With guests dressed in 30’s flappers dancing, it was a good night.
I loved Cicada...fun fabulous and ambiatic. Had a great time with the wife and her friends. The dinner even came with "extra champagne literally on me. " Well worth it...everyone was very friendly. I will return and recommend it to all adults.
The ambience and venue are absolutely breathtaking - making for a wonderful girl's night. Although, it definitely would be great for date night or anniversary dinner. The food delectable, every dish description made my mouth water - will return to try more. The Fettucine Filet Mignon Ragout was amazing! Everyone loved the nine-pepper new york steak. My favorite was the cocktail list -creative, delicious and affordable. They serve the classics - Manhattan (my fav) and Sazerac - to your more creative Bee's Knees and Penicillin. Service was on point - attentive, friendly and well-timed! Valet parking is available, in addition to the pay structures in the area.
I found this place on a whim- for my fiances birthday! it was one of the most amazing experiences we have ever encountered. From the moment you walk through the door, throughout the evening , the service was absolutely perfect! the band we saw play was amazing, the dancing was even better- whether you have two left feet, or professional like some of the other couples...it was just amazing to watch everyone have fun! we both haven't stopped talking about it
We were a party of 6 for dinner, dancing and show. The occasion was my daughter's birthday. With dinner, I had two glasses of chardonnay, the others did not drink. The band was terrific, the food less than spectacular and of minor quality. The bill, including admission was about $1000.00 with tip. My advice would be to enjoy the '30's ambiance of the old Oviatt Building, the music........and skip the food.
Best vintage romance restaurant in Los Angeles. Love how we were suddenly transported to 1930s Bela Lugosi Los Angeles. Beautiful design.
The food is good, drinks are excellent, but go for the architecture and ambience. Beautifully decorated
Most remarkable and beautiful room in Los Angeles, an art deco wonder.
Great service and wonderful entertainment. Felt like I was eating dinner in the 1920s!
