About Chop House Leith
Best of British beef, butchered & dry-aged in house and cooked over an open flamed charcoal grill. Chop House Leith has brought an innovative blend of classic British steakhouse and cocktail bar to Constitution Street. Chop House is an exciting addition to the Shore’s vibrant culinary scene, brought to you by the team behind Monteiths, Sygn Bar and WestRoom. Provenance is at the centre of the Chop House offer and the restaurant uses the finest beef sourced from artisan suppliers across Scotland. The meat is butchered on site and dry aged for up to 90 days to add flavour and increase tenderness. Only then is the beef cooked on an open flame charcoal grill, specially designed to give a subtle smoky flavour. Our fantastic food offering is matched by an extensive wine list from around the world and exceptional cocktail list. Open Mon - Fri for lunch and dinner, Sat & Sun for weekend breakfast, brunch, lunch and Sunday roast! They have another Chop House on East Market St.

Chop House Leith Ratings and Reviews
I literally cannot fault Chop House at all. I felt it was priced quite reasonably and was better value and quality than some of the more common steak houses in the city centre. I live close to the restaurant so it's no trouble for me to walk there but I can see that the location would be a slight downside for some. The service was impeccable from the moment that we walked in and the food was outstanding. I will definitely be back and recommend to all my friends!
Out for dinner. Good food. Excellent service from all members of staff particularly the managers on that evening. Despite being heavily pregnant, she was ever-present, ever-accommodating and it was by some distance the best service we have ever received in our years of dining out. Well recommended.
I've eaten a lot of steak and this has to be one of the best, if not the best! Porterhouse 700g shared with my husband on his birthday and it was fantastic. Great starters, great sides, great wine. We had a lovely table by the window and our waitress was really kind and knew her stuff.
Absolutely 1st class food, service and dining experience.
I've eaten ALOT of steaks in my life and without doubt this was the best I've ever had - find out for yourself, you won't be disappointed.
Also you simply must have the mussels in bone marrow broth for a starter. I can't explain the taste sensation it's just so lovely.
We visited for an anniversary meal and had a mixed experience. To be clear, the food was excellent, drinks were fine. However, the way we were treated by everyone *except* our table waiter left a lot to be desired. We booked through opentable and I noted that it was an anniversary meal - this was ignored by staff.
7:30 - arrived on time for our table and asked if we want to have a drink in the bar. Politely declined, said that if our table is ready we would take our seats. Front of house barely acknowledges this, seems to seat us through gritted teeth. We were then ignored for 15 minutes.
7:45 - drinks order taken, no thanks to the fact that there was no soft drinks menu anywhere.
8:00 - drinks arrive and menus are handed out
8:15 - order taken: 4 oysters and then 2 steaks
8:35 - 4 oysters arrive, cleared 10 mins later
9:15 - steaks and sauce arrive, sides arrive nearly 10 minutes later
9:50 - table cleared
10:00 - dessert menu offered and ice cream ordered
10:10 - ice cream arrived
10:20 - bill asked for and paid up
I wouldn't normally show timings in a review, it's overkill, but to not receive starters for over an hour (starters that require zero cooking), was infuriating . Three hours for not-even-three courses was ridiculous. Our waiter (tall, brown haired guy) was excellent, to be fair, but for the whole evening other staff were standing at the till, not supporting him, and he was running around. I feel bad criticising because our waiter and food was good, but there is an issue with leadership and management in this place and it left a sour taste.
Also, cutlery felt cheap. Again, not something I'd comment on normally but when paying top money I'd rather not be cutting into steak with something that feels like it's going to snap.
I'd struggle to recommend this place, and will not be returning with parents (which seemed plausible prior) because I know my father and father-in-law would flip their wigs at the treatment we received.
Wonderful meal. Lots of choices for type of steak , as well as , sides. Meat was tender and flavorful. Jasmine, our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable, and kept our drink glasses full. Not a dark atmosphere like most steak houses. Would definitely go back if I am in Edinburgh again.
Great steakhouse in Edinburgh with really creative and tasty cocktails. Was disappointed that they had run out of the Chateaubriand, as we were from abroad and were eager to try, but we got the filet which was quite nice. The sides were all delicious as well, can't go wrong with either option. Lively atmosphere and a fun dinner all around.
I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for anything. This has to be one of the most disappointing dining experiences I have ever had in Edinburgh. The restaurant advertise Sunday roast served all day from 12pm until they close. Yet when we arrived at 18:15 they had none left and said we were too late & should have come earlier! They were very arrogant. We then decided to order something from the a la carte menu and subsequently everything we fancied was also sold out inc. monkfish, lobster and oysters. They advised us they had also run out of 2 wines, so we ordered the Pinot Grigio, sadly that didn't appear either as they had also run out of that too! Overall it was a disaster, it poses the question, how does a restaurant survive with this attitude and approach? they should not advertise an all day Sunday roast if they cannot deliver it. Added to this we were also asked to leave the table as it was booked by another party...the place wasn't even full!
From the moment we walked in to this fantastic establishment we were looked after - from cocktails at the bar to the recommendations on the cuts of meat to the actual food itself the quality of this restaurant shone through. A strong recommendation from me although pay special attention to find this place as our taxi drove straight past the restaurant initially and none of us saw it!
