Chop House Leith Ratings and Reviews
We celebrated my Daughters 21st Birthday here and both the food and service were excellent! Steaks were tasty and cooked to perfection and there was an excellent choice of side dishes. Our waitress was superb and the service very unobtrusive - although always on hand if required. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone 😊
After getting recommended from a friend i thought i would go here for my 40th birthday. The place was nice inside and the staff were pleasant. After waiting about an hour the fillet steaks were not cooked very well at all as both steak were overcooked so they were very dry. The manager apologised and stated we would not have to pay for the steaks. The side of onion rings were nice and the side of mac and cheese was very tasty. The dessert was little donughts and marshmallows with caramel sauce. The marshmallows were nice but the donughts were very dry and felt like they had been baked a couple of days before. Overall we were very dissappointd with our first experience here. The place has the potential to be very good but unfortunately on this occasion it was very poor. Its all about the steak but it was a massive dissappointment. Dont think i will be back ☹️
I really wanted to like Chop House, Leith so let's star with the positives.
Firstly the service was excellent with the staff knowledgeable and attentive and was really impressed.
The decor/ ambience was also great and I liked being able to see into the meat fridges, this was a nice touch.
Now for the not so good, unfortunately Whilst the food was good it didn't blow my mind and the most memorable dish was the tomato and pickled onion salad which I'm not sure is what a steak restaurant wants to be remembered for.
This really leads me on to my next point which is that I found the whole meal to be really overpriced which was a shame and because of this I really couldn't recommend it to others.
Also, it would be great if diners were able to tip staff when paying by card. This sounds contradictory to my above statement but I did feel that the staff deserved a tip and would have happily left one but unfortunately it would seem that you can only tip when paying with cash.
Friendly staff, Willing to try and accommodate specific dietary needs, beautiful meat, best rump steak I've ever had! The food did seem to take a long time to arrive but it was worth the wait. Bone marrow was a real treat. All 4 of us were really happy with the meal. Definitely recommend.
I was really looking forward Chop House after hearing such good reviews, however, we were semi-disappointed with our meal. I would firstly like to say the service was excellent- the waitress was friendly and extremely attentive. The restaurant was also lovely- great atmosphere and quirky setting.
I had the crispy squid to start with which was nice, however, my partner and I had burgers for our mains which we found to be extremely dry. We then had the brownie for dessert which again was very dry and overcooked. Overall, not quite what we expected: overpriced for what we received.
A fantastic dining experience at the Chop House. The service was brilliant, with staff being knowledgable, considerate and talkative - you actually felt valued as a customer. Do not let the expense of the food put you off of your meal, the steaks were cooked to perfection and the sides that went alongside the main meal were of a good size and extremely tasty. The whole experience was of a fantastic quality. My partner and I are already planning our return trip to edinburgh with this restaurant in mind to visit again!
Excellent steak and very knowledgable and helpful staff who are really behind the brand and know how they are different to other steak houses. Have obviously tried the food and know all about it which is great. Little noisy for me but good atmosphere for a night out and a gem in Leith. Barman knows his stuff as well and was kind enough to let us try a few different reds - brilliant!
Once again a great meal was had by all. Wonderful steaks, cooked to perfection. Lovely service. Delicious desserts! My only gripe is that, because the restaurant is so popular, it is very noisy for us deaf old gits, however, that will not stop us returning!
Visited with my husband and father. We were all impressed with the servers and how great their attention to detail was with everything from the knowledge about the food and wine to the care and attention to when to check on our evening was going well but without interrupting our evening too many times . Heated seats were a quirky bonus too. And overall the food was cooked to perfection
Visited Chop House for a belated xmas night out with my hubby.
The wine list is quite long with something for everyone. The helpful staff said they could recommend a bottle if we couldn't decide.
Food wise we went for squid, tempura prawns and scallop with bread and bone marrow butter to start. You can order the prawns and scallops singly, as many or as few as you like. Then the sharing surf and turf which is chateaubriand steak, lobster and chips, we added some seasame slaw too. Everything was cooked to perfection, so tasty I was still dreaming of it the next day.
Been a huge advocate of Chop House both Leith and Market St for a while now. Myself and my partner have dined here a few times. I was sad to see the poor level of service on my last visit. Very rushed and no courtesy taken to ensure at least a mildly pleasant experience. Food always good but I appreciate the whole experience. A moody waitress spoils this for me. I spent a good amount of money for my partners birthday and expect a certain level of service. Flat Moet champagne, not taking coats when I clearly said yes to her initial offering (all very rushed and rude), no small talk and just sticking the bill infront of my face without any word. Restaurant was not even busy. I now would think twice before returning. Don't take your partner here if you are looking for a romantic dining environment.
