Chop House Leith Ratings and Reviews
Living just round the corner from Chop House Leith means that it is a great place to go for a Sunday breakfast/brunch treat! Small breakfast menu, but everything they have is super tasty - from the poached egg and smashed avocado on toast to the full breakfast, they've got something for your taste! Plus the complimentary Bloody Mary was delicious!
We had a really nice evening. On arrival were welcomed at the door and had a drink at the bar.
When we were ready we were taken to our table which, as requested, was in a quiet corner and cosy and intimate. The waiting staff were perfect, not at all pushy, very knowledgeable and there only when you needed them. The starters (seafood) were excellent and the mains (rib steaks) were delicious with very nice sides.
We really enjoyed our dinner in the Chop House and will be going back.
So if you're looking for the perfect intimate birthday dinner give these guys a try.
Pricey but the food was outstanding, I would recommend the scotch egg is was incredible.
My only criticism which the restaurant cannot influence is the ambience when full, it was rather busy on the site and we struggled to have a conversation, not great if you are on a date which I was.
The fillet is better value than most restaurants in terms of weight also.
Definitely go back for an occasional treat
Much quieter than we thought it would be having picked the restaurant from a review in The Times weekend supplement.
Had to wait bit for chateaubriand to be cooked-understandable- the wait was well worth it . Superb piece of meat with trimmings. Wine we had was reasonably priced and matched beef well.
Would return no problem !
very dark inside, it is nice to have discreet lighting , but this was so dark , it was difficult to read the menu. Food was nice enough, but my husband and I eat out a lot and have had just as good, or better steaks for less money. Scallops at £4 each was ridiculous, expected them to be huge for that price but again , nothing special, have had better elsewhere for a fraction of the price. Orange sponge pudding was inedible, heavy and stodgy. As the evening went on, it became very noisy, and we were glad we were almost finished so we could leave. Don't mind paying a lot of money for an excellent meal, but this was just average.
We had a special birthday lunch here and everything was really great. Friendly welcome and efficient service. Delicious food. My fillet steak was one of the best I have had ever. Teeny bit salty (which I liked but maybe not everyone would). This place is very much about steaks ( excellent range and quality) and other choices are pretty restricted - but nice, nonetheless. The a la carte menu is not cheap but seems good value, except that any veg is charged extra as a 'side' which seems just a tiny bit mean - even just a wee tomato and mushroom to garnish the steak would be nice... The Express Lunch menu looked surprisingly reasonable, with a wider range of choices, so that would be well worth trying. Good wine list. Nothing below £20 a bottle but well chosen. The restaurant has a well designed classic/ modern (trendy - but not TOO trendy) feel. Not busy (Thursday lunchtime) and not exactly cosy (hard surfaces everywhere, so could get noisy if full), the ambiance was calm and relaxed - music a bit loud when we went in but seemed to fade in a bit later (or they changed to a better playlist)? Nice to get a booth at the window, as inner tables for two are quite close together, so probably worth booking ahead. There is a nice semi private area with round table for about ?6-8? - good for a special group / meeting/ family party.
Food was phenomenal. Best steak I have had in Edinburgh by far! We were seated right at the door so wasn’t very private or warm but apart from that the service and food were amazing! Bit on the pricey side but you get what you pay for and the food lived up to expectations! We will be back.
I was absolutely delighted with my experience at the chop house, it was my girlfriends 20th birthday and I asked if they could do anything to make it a little extra special and we were both given comp prosecco which was a lovely touch and very much appreciated, my starter of crab claw was stunning and was a big portion. Also the steak for the main that I had was the best steak I had ever eaten, with a lovely smokey taste, absolutely stunning, better than the likes of miller and Carter and Dakota. It was also cheaper than the two above, so could not complain at all, 5 stars!
Great place! Service was a little slow but that was because the table before us stayed longer than anticipated. Steak was amazing and we got the cheapest one! Would definitely reccomend to a friend 10/10. Was a bit loud and hard to hear my company but that was just cos it was so busy!
We dined at the chop house on a busy Saturday night. We arrived slightly early for our 7.30pm table, our table was ready so we were seated straight away.
The restaurant had a great atmosphere! Our waitress was very attentive and had a great knowledge of the steaks on offer. We selected a fillet & a 55 day aged sirloin, both were cooked to perfection!
We both said the steaks were one of the best we’ve tasted!
Overall we had a lovely time with excellent food and can’t wait to return. Thanks!
Steak was excellent, perfectly cooked (rare) and other food good - particularly the short rib scotch egg. Service was attentive but mildly error prone. The cheese platter was displaying rather a lot of "cheese miles" - why import cheese all the way from southern England? On the other hand I don't object to the wine miles - I had an excellent glass of Primitivo which worked with both steak and cheese.
