The owner, Stephane Bocket was born in Dunkerque, France. Stephane was the Maitre d'Hotel for 12 years before purchasing Chez Catherine in 2016. His career spans many years at Alain Ducasse's restaurants in NYC and France and before that in a number of other restaurants throughout France.
The Chef de Cuisine is Christine Migton. Christine graduated from the Culinary Institute of America. Her dishes revisit traditional French cuisine but use different flavors and tastes. She works to provide lighter and healthier ingredients wherever possible while maintaining that special French touch.
Great food, service and atmosphere. Highly recommend!!
Stephane is so professional and thoughtful. The food is seasonally apt and high quality. He delivers a fine dining and service experience. Go if you haven’t. It’s seriously head and shoulders about other restaurants in the Westfield / Summit / Short Hills Area.
Excellent meal, excellent service. Chez Catherine is a terrific restaurant for a special night out.
Outstanding in every way. The restaurant exceeded all expectations.
It was a very enjoyable evening. We are planning on visiting again and bring friends.
Our anniversary dinner at Chez Catherine was outstanding!
I have been wanted to go for over 30 yrs and finally got a chance and I was so disappointed in the food for the price I would have thought it would have been better, the duck was so fatty and when we told the waiter he did offer another meal but it was way to late. I would have thought they would have bought us a drink or took something off the tab. Sorry but I will not be returning
Take a 40 year old restaurant with a great reputation, many awards and your expectations are very high. Our recent dinner didn't disappoint. It's "Old School" all the way - decor, menu & service, but in the finest French tradition. It was so refreshing to enjoy a leisurely dinner in a peaceful setting with impeccable service. There's nothing earth shattering in the menu. You can actually understand the ingredients. But the quality and presentation that comes out of the kitchen is superb. I know this sounds unbelievable, but in summary, it was one the finest meals I've ever had in NJ. Here's to another 40 years!
High quality food served by attentive and humorous maître d’ made for a very enjoyable date night.
Wonderful restaurant for special occasions. Quiet dining with excellent service and a creative menu.
Finally had a chance to get back to Chez C. Enjoyed dinner. Dover sole outstanding. Special salad and onion soup great. Special fish just ok. Snapper fresh but overall plate lacked flavor. Great dessert, great wine list.
Dining room could use some color.
As always, excellent meal with gracious service.
Excellent foods as always. Duck was the best I've had.
Stefan makes you feel at home. Great value, especially for lunch.
We started with one mediocre appetizer, followed by an excellent appetizer, an excellent entree, an outstanding entree in the Dover sole, and two very good, traditional desserts, mousse au chocolat and creme brule. My wife and I like to share, so we were impressed that the kitchen divided the dishes for us. But for the one appetizer I would have given it 5 stars. Having said that, I'd go back in a heartbeat.
Special evening. Wonderful unpretentious service. Foie gras, duck, beef, cheesecake mousse and crepe Suzanne were all great.
Great food, service & ambiance
Loved the food and service. Would highly recommend. Looking forward to getting back soon. The relaxed but refined ambiance added to the enjoyable experience.
The food was excellently prepared. My only negative—I thought 3 of the 5 entree choices a bit ho hum. However, I had the fish of the day— Bronzino— and it was delicious. The appetizers were also very traditional— not many surprises, but I had the mussels and they were probably the best I’ve ever had. I would definitely dine here again.
Food is ok, not worth $90/person.
The best French Restaurant my wife and I have every dined at. Excellent. We never have anything to take home.
Had a great lunch however an average dinner. Rather cozy environment.
Went to dinner for our 15th wedding anniversary. The duck was delicious as was the chocolate mousse for dessert. It’s great to have a local restaurant that serves things you can’t get in most places (duck, foie gras, soufflé). Chez Catherine is always our go to place for special occasions
excellent lunch and our waiter was extremely helpful .
The food , the service was excellent , I enjoyed everything. I will go again and again I am impressed 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Chez Catherine is a lovely, romantic dinner spot. It's an intimate setting, but still a welcoming environment for a group of friends. Stefan and his staff are always a delight. Such an amazing level of service, presentation, and food. Always a wonderful experience
Good food, excellent place for any occasion. Top rated customer service.
Excellence from beginning to end! Restaurant is quaint and classy. Service is fantastic and the food was outstanding! Every course exceeded our expectations. Looking forward to returning to try what we did not try this time. Thank you for an excellent evening!
Amazing place to celebrate a wedding anniversary. The new owner is nice, humble, and is very attentive. Looking forward to celebrating another special occasion there.
Great service. Great food
Chez Catherine offers outstanding food and great service! Every menu item is perfect!
Superb service. Server made excellent suggestions for both food and wine. Exceptional food from start to finish. Their John Dory poisson du jour was the highlight of my meal.
Our 3rd visit-worth the hour drive each way. Food is wonderful, as is the service. Our only negative statement is that the white wine is not chilled. In the future we'll order our bottle in advance, requesting it be refrigerated. We look forward to returning to Chez Catherine again.
Food was absolutely delicious. Loved every course. The service was impeccable. Can’t wait to go back. A truly special meal.
The best french cuisine in NJ. Excellent service, romantic setting, mixed berry sabayon prepared at the table was a very pleasant surprise
One could easily drive by and not notice it, I have. Inside is quaint, friendly staff, tasty food. My only issue are the prices. I expected them only by previewing the online menu. "Fine dining"+French food+Westfield=$$$$ For me, was a one time visit. Well worth it for a special occasion splurge. Parking available behind restaurant.
The meal, as usual, was excellent. The scallops, my first time ordering them, were divine, as were the 2 chocolate desserts. Truthfully, I could have made a meal just with the bread and butter served! So good! One of our servers, a young lady, may have been new, I don't know, but she was not on top of every detail as we have come to expect at Chez Catherine. One mishap occurred with the wine we ordered that truth be told, was 1/2 the server's fault and 1/2 my fault. I ordered a bottle of ChateauNeuf du Pape at a price of $95. Then we ordered a second bottle. My boyfriend paid the check and I did not view it until we arrived home. I had selected #1044 and we were served #1045 another ChateauNeuf but at $125 per bottle. I wasn't familiar with the producer so when the bottle was presented to me I assumed it was the wine I had chosen; but it was not. An expensive lesson learned.
It put me in Paris for an evening!
Best food I’ve had in a long time.
