*PLEASE NOTE* Only tables in the restaurant can be booked online, tables in the garden are allocated on a first come, first serve basis.
The food wasn’t at its usual standard, the beer battered cod wasn’t golden but more on the just before burnt stage. The skinny fries weren’t nice, both husband and daughter disliked. Service was slow, given desert menu and then after 15 mins no one came back to ask us, so we had to call a waitress over! Not impressed this time, so wouldn’t hurry back.
We have eaten at The Chaser on many occasions, unfortunately the service on this occasion was poor, probably due to lack of staff. We had two waitresses serving us who didn’t seem to speak to each other.
As usual a pleasant visit.
Dinner gorgeous and staff lovely.
I have visited The Chaser half a dozen times over as many years. The location is lovely. On this occasion we were booked for 2:30 pm on a Sunday in September. We received our main at 4:05. It was a warm day and the garden was packed. They had clearly taken on far more diners than could be reasonably accommodated given kitchen capacity etc. They warned us as the starter arrived that our main would be another hour. It was too late to leave. No offer was made to reduce the bill or anything else to compensate. Having said this, the serving staff were pleasant and clearly doing their best. We won't be returning.
We eat here fairly regularly. It was exceptionally busy this time and we had a long wait for our food but they did explain this when we ordered. The food, as usual, was spot on - which is why we come back here. The noise levels were higher than usual tonight because they were so busy and there were quite a few children as well adding to the noise.
We love this pub, always have a lovely family meal here
We love the food at The Chaser, as our local pub, but in recent visits, we have noticed a decline in the service. This visit, we got our food before our drinks, and had to ask for the drinks to be brought over, having seen them sitting on the bar for at least 10 minutes! We were sat on a table near to the bar, and on a Sunday, the bar gets busy with people waiting to be seated so there are lots of people standing at your table - not the best!! There were a lot of staff in attendance, but all very young and seem inexperienced. However, as always, the food was lovely and that is what keeps us coming back.
Excellent food, great service as usual. Will return
Sunday evening meal, food very good, service friendly and quick, bottle of red wine we ordered was sent back as it smelt like a stagnant fish pond! Waitress said she wouldn't have ordered it in the first place as it was the worse red wine on the list. Replaced by better bottle of red. Apart from that, thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Service disjointed, vegetables for roasts not varied, bacon very fatty on peas with bacon, hugely underwhelming, normally so good, something has changed...for the worst
YMMV as always. Our observations:
Chilli soup too hot - like madrass / vindaloo hot. Usual Whiting and Hammond mains - sometimes they have a good variation, some times not enough - this visit was the latter. Just not a very inspiring menu - even the 'specials' are tired and repetitive. Vegan fish and chips with banana flowers was overcooked and greasy. Some deserts not available.
Bank holiday Monday evening after what must have been a very busy day for the Chaser, but the food and service were still very good. The Chaser is a really great location and it is great to find that the food matches the location.
NEED Air conditioning in all rooms. Been here before and felt the same way. Other than that a perfect pub to dine at.
Great place for great food. Mushroom scotch egg was gorgeous. Thoroughly recommend.
Excellent food and service, in a lovely setting. Highly recommended.
The Chaser accommodated us brilliantly with easy wheelchair access to our table, as requested. The staff could not have been more helpful and the menu was imaginative, catering for both vegetarians and vegans. A fine selection beers, excellent food in a lovely setting - what better way to spend a summers afternoon with friends.
Having been to the Chaser a few tears ago, i decided to meet a friend for lunch. I booked on the open table website and found it very eady. The only slight drawback is the parking situation. Not a lot of room. My friend is recovering from back surgery and walking is difficult. The entrance has a few steps and she found this trickey too. I would like to see a ramp of somekind added for this reason. I was pleased with the meal we had although menu was a little sparse. Food very good.
Having said that i will recommend and will return.
A great place to dine. Great service, lovely food and pleasent surroundings.
I can’t stress enough how good the food is here. But unfortunately the service is way below standard. The staff are awfully sweet but so so young and inexperienced and there is literally nobody to guide them. Such a shame as it really is a gorgeous place. Go with plenty of time and patience to wait whilst they get your drinks and food orders right. And prepare to not get bread and oils at all. But do go x
Very enjoyable evening, have visited many times before & always have a good meal with good service.
I have always enjoyed Chaser Inn, it’s one of the best in Kent
Lovely venue, good food a lovely evening out always happy to return
Service was efficient and the Fish Seafood and Spinach Curry was delicious. However did not feel it really catered for couples as the tables for 2 were crammed into a small corner with very little legroom and very close to other tables in an extremely poorly illuminated area. I consider myself lucky to have good eyesight but the lighting was so poor and the text size on the menus was frustrating small. It therefore made it virtually impossible too read the menu without either going from the table to a better lit area or using the torch facility on my mobile. Many of the dishes seemed overpriced. But if you do wish to charge such prices I think the Chaser needs to offer a more comfortable relaxing and spacious dining experience
Really lovely food, well presented. Generous sized main courses. I was there with my children and I think most of the menu can be turned in to a 'child's portion'. My children enjoyed their sausages and burger and I had some kind of vegan salad which was delicious.
My only real problem was the Nachos' starter which I had thought was suitable for sharing. Perhaps my family are greedy but in other restaurants I am used to a mini mountain of nachos with dips added to the top and a lot to share. Instead we had a small wire basket with a few nachos and three ramekins with dips (that we could not possibly eat with the small portion of nachos) presented beautifully on a board!
This is the only fault I could find and I feel really guilty for saying it. The Chaser Inn is nicely decorated, clean, with tasty food and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I will definitely be going back.
Had a good lunch with great friendly service but felt that the choice and standard of food was not up to their usual standard especially as a couple of days previously we had eaten at their sister restaurant the Little Brown Jug and had superior fare!
Thank you for this. The meal was fine as was atmosphere and service.
However I did leave my hat behind, a straw summer hat. It will roll up and, assuming you have found it
Could you pop it in a Jiffy bag and send to 61 New Street, Wem, Shropshire SY4 5AE. If problems ring 01939 235559
Be cautious of the car park as it was fairly small
Nice place for Sunday lunch. Staff were friendly but obviously busy. The only criticism I have is the friend I went with was vegetation and I am wonder if his dish took a while as there was a bit of a wait and his was piping hot and my pork was quite tepid giving me the impression it had been waiting around for a while.
You know what you're getting and I've returned a number of times as service and quality are always good.
Birthday dinner for me with husband and friend. Thank you for seating us in the lovely Church Room, we love that table in the corner. Good food, excellent waiting service (a chap in a white shirt with dark hair, very attentive but not over the top and also Clara Tyler). Aqua Spritz non-alcoholic drink menu also a great addition. Thanks for a lovely evening!
Originally suppose to go to a restaurant in London but due to bad weather and no trains running our party decided dine at the chaser as an alternative. Although it was not our original plans for the evening we had a wonderful time, The food was delicious, service was excellent and a lovely atmosphere. My only suggestion would be some music on. Even if just background. But all round fabulous evening. It was for my brother in laws birthday and he had never visited before but is keen to come back. Well done. And Thank you,
Our visit to The Chaser Inn was very disappointing. We were a family party of six seated in a dining area resembling a chapel. It was overcrowded and extremely noisy, the bare wooden floor and the fashionably old furnishings did nothing to improve the ambience, we could barely hear each other across the table.
We each ordered a sandwich of one sort or another, we were looking for a light lunch and the opportunity for some catch-up family conversation having travelled from Sussex and Wiltshire for this get together. The food was OK but nothing special served on cold plates, indeed my wife's Ploughman's came up on a plastic tray which was not acceptable. We were quite pleased to get back outside and at least have some quiet conversation before we went our seperate ways. Later when I looked at my receipt, which I did not question at the time, I was astonished to see the price of three glasses of shandy at £16.50 and to finish the bill with a service charge of £13.37. Fine dining this was not, but this was an experience I shall not repeat.
Had a very enjoyable family dinner at The Chaser. Good choice on menu, well cooked and great service.
Delicious meal, healthy portions, excellent staff. Plenty of space (Friday lunchtime mid-Aug). Very easy to recommend.
We visited here on a recommendation, lovely atmosphere and the staff are exceptional. The food however was not great at all. Sausages flavourless to which the Manager agreed, Mash was watery and the gravy was terrible. The Burger was tasty but the bun was hard and the chips and onion rings were under cooked.
Shame as the pub is great, Wine was lovely and service as I stated before was excellent.
Had lunch with a friend at probably the busiest time. Service was great and speedy but not made to feel rushed. Eaten here a number of times and will return again
A great venue for an inter-generational gathering. Everyone enjoyed their meal, and the service was great.
We are regulars at the Chaser and it never disappoints
Always good whatever the occasion, quiet meal for two or big family gathering. We have a lot of visitors from overseas and they love the experience of English pup, atmosphere and local beers. Our favourite venue at the moment
Service good. Food average. Coffee lukewarm. Noisy table nearby spoilt lunch.
