The food was tasty and served in generous portions sizes.
I was disappointed in my starter. I ordered the Chana chaat, which is meant to be chick peas in yogurt and tamarind sauce with potatoes and salad. What I actually got was curried chickpeas which were extremely hot, (not in temperature). I would’ve enjoyed these with naan or chappati, but on their own as a starter.
Other than this the food was lovely and service friendly and efficient. The Pinot was impressive too and reasonably priced for a bottle.
We were a group of 5 and would definitely return.
love this place so much food is outstanding service is outstanding prices reasonable, only indian restaurant I would go to when in Glasgow city centre been coming here for 10 years now and will be coming back for the next 10 hopefully, thanks to all staff at charcoals for another wonderful meal and hope I will be seeing you all very soon
Food was lovely but maybe a bit rushed. I think some people come for lunch and they need to be quick. We were just having a “Catch up” and courses came very quickly. We felt as if the restaurant was maybe closing so we had to rush. Service was good and food was amazing. Great value too. Would highly recommend this place.
On the recommendation of my grandchildren who had visited previously, we booked a meal for four in Charcoals and were not disappointed. The food was amazing and the service first class probably justifying the cost which was slightly higher than we normally would pay. This will not put us off from visiting Charcoals in the future. When visiting Glasgow we tend to vary our dining experience between the different Indian restaurants and rate Charcoals as the best yet.
Doesn't look much from outside, but nice enough inside and the food was amazing
Food was amazing! Service excellent and friendly!
Very disappointed, had prebooked a few weeks ago.?Placed at table besides toilets.?Pompoddoms slightly soft and tasted greasy. Garlic naans heavy and little garlic on them. Very disappointing meal. We have been many times with no issues, but very disappointing this time. Have recommended it many times in past but won’t again following this visit. Card machine not working either
Great place fantastic food would recommend but watch they don’t say anything about the service charge
Lovely food and service was really good. Nothing was too much bother. Always come back here when we go for Indian food.
Charcoals is a “wee gem”, discovered quite by accident - and what a glorious discovery! The food is fabulous, well presented and efficiently served by the very knowledgeable staff, without being overbearing. The little complimentary dishes that arrive out of the blue are designed to perhaps whet your appetite for a return visit and/or further investigation? Either way, a clever piece of marketing! All reasonably priced and a lovely atmosphere.
As always, the food was tasty and the service was excellent. Went in with the husband and were promptly seated. The food was hot and the portions were just right. Our waiter checked in with us continuously to make sure we were okay and the manager even recognised us from our previous visits. I highly recommend going if you want the best Indian food in town...and making a reservation if you go on a weekend! We’ll hopefully be back soon!
Most of our party opted for the 2 course set menu for £9.95. Food was just delicious. Would definitely go back to Charcoals.
Not quite the usual high standard. Fish pakora a bit dry and chewy. Hope next time is better.
Superb food and service cannot fault
Food was incredible, staff were v friendly and provided plenty of tasters free of charge which was a class touch. Can't wait to go back.
Great local place
Another fantastic meal at this awesome restaurant. Just round corner from the Horseshoe Bar! If you enjoy quality Indian food then this is the place troops :)
Fabulous evening celebrating my brothers graduation, the staff were amazing and made the meal awesome.
Have patronised Charcoals for years because of the excellent experience in food and service. Quality of food has been variable the last few times but this time was very poor. Lamb in Bhoona was very grisly, naan was brick hard and when asked for a replacement the same naan was brought back to the table. Also, the cleanliness of the toilets was not as usual with the Ladies toilet bowl stained as though it had not been cleaned for a while and dust and dirt on the floor. So disappointed, won't be visiting again for a while.
Good food as always
The lunch deal is brilliant- varied menu which is great value for money
Food was average, nothing standout amongst Glasgow wide selection of Indians. Although we were late diners, the service was rushed and we were immediately advised what time the kitchen would close despite them advertising slots available half an hour after this time. There is also a 10% service charge applied to all party sizes. Whilst it’s documented in the menus, it’s not really something most people would expect for the standard of service received
Small dining area but food never disappoints. Meal felt a bit rushed as staff were eager to get the table cleared after every course and set for next round of customers
Usual fantastic, tasty, quality meal. Had the pre-theatre menu and it was first class. Really great choice. Also as usual the staff gave us a wee sampler, this time it was onion bajis. Glasgow is the curry capital of Scotland and you would be hard pushed to find better Indian food elsewhere.
Food was well prepared and flavours were excellent. All piping hot and well presented. Service excellent and prompt.
As the awards on the wall indicate, the food and service were excellent. Tasty dishes. Moderate prices. Large quantities. We got nearly full from the appetizers. Peering into the kitchen one can see the hard working cooks and chef.
The only criticisms are minor: better beer selection (perhaps from India) and due to this being a small place, one can smell the food being cooked (some may not like that).
Once again 1st class food & service can’t fault at all
Excellent food and service will definitely go back when next in Glasgow
Good food consistently ...... we have visited several times.
Fish Pakora, Lamb Chops, Lamb Desi and Peshwari Nan were favourites at our table.
Friendly, helpful staff.
I’ve eaten at Charcoals many times in the past
The £6.95 lunch menu is tremendous value for money
The accompaniments to the poppadoms are especially good
High standard of service from friendly staff
Fantastic welcome and service. We went for mains only but were given some things to try which were excellent. We were at the door but it was fine. Mr Ali has a good restaurant. We'll be back as food was outstanding
I booked and was half way through my meal when the waiter called to ask why I hadn't turned up for my booking.
We were charged for poppadoms hat never appeared, charged for two naan when one was given and cut up.
A poor soul came to the restaurant and was ushered away - waiter came to apologise and then told a five minute story of how the guy had come in previously and tried to con them out of a curry.
10% service charge added. for two.
Two curries, one rice, one naan, a pint of beer and corona and a flat soda water total price = £46.
Have been before, not disappointed. It was up to its usual high standards. The food is exceptional
Always a favourite when I visit Glasgow. Great food and service everytime
Always enjoy the food and service here; the pre-theatre menu is excellent value with a good selection to choose from.
A very enjoyable dining experience with excellent food and helpful staff.
Always a tasty meal with very good service..friendly staff throughout.
Excellent customer service, food quality & choice. We booked last minute on a busy Saturday evening and thought ourselves lucky giving that every table in the restaurant was full.
We will return in future & have recommended to others already!!
Excellent service and food. Our favourite place to have a curry. Staff are extremely helpful and attentive. The food is of an extremely high standard.
As usual Charcoals was first class. We were in for a pre-theatre and the menu had an excellent choice and represented superb value. The food was, as always tip top. During our meal we were given "tasters" which were lovely.
The reason I haven't gone 5* across the board is that I felt we were rushed. At one point we had poppadoms, the tasters and our starters on the table. We were barely finished that lot when the mains came out, a delicious Makhani and a spicy South Indian Garlic Chilli Chicken.
Next time I go I will let the staff know there is no fire and time to digest between courses would be appreciated!! Plus if they had taken there time we would have ordered more drinks. Overall it was really good.
