This was the second visit to La Paix in Nihombashi. Our overall experience was so good on our first visit that we decided to come back. The course and wines had changed after the 5 months since and it was just as good as our first visit. The service was outstanding, as usual, and the ambiance was reserved, yet energetic. None of us spoke Japanese, but the staff tried their best to explain each dish and wine pairing. Had a wonderful meal there on Valentines Day. The 6 course menu was perfect as we did not want a heavy meal (they had 7 and 8 courses options too). The freshly baked bread was impossible to resist even though I wanted to eat less carbo. From starter to end, every course was tasty and beautifully plated. I took three friends here because it was highly rated and listed (in Happy Cow) as "Vegetarian-friendly". It deserves the high ratings as the food, service and ambience were excellent. However, it's far from "Vegetarian-friendly". It does have a vegetarian prix-fixe but that has to be ordered THREE DAYS in advance! Or so I discovered at the restaurant. Everything about this experience was perfect. The venue has an open view of the bustling kitchen, yet remains sufficiently intimate for private conversation. The course menu is the only option, but this is not a problem as every course was delicious. The service is attentive and friendly, without being overbearing. We were looking for yakitori for our last night in Tokyo. This place popped up on open table in the english version which made it easier to book. It was also close to our hotel. We speak no Japanese and the language barrier was high. No English menu and no pictures. Google translate failed miserably. But the waiter really went all out to make it work. We got chicken across and pointed at body parts . We ended up with breast, neck and thigh. It was terrific. Also got some beef also terrific. Super spicy edamame was best I've ever had. 2 small sake, 2 beers 2 glasses of wine and food for four came to just over $100. Its a bit dark and was strangely empty on a Saturday night with just a handful of local families. Once we got past our inability to get info across to the staff and our uncertainty as to what we'd ordered, it was a great experience. The waiter came with a cheat sheet with a Rosetta stone of what we had. Japanese script, Japanese in English alphabet, and English. Good traditional and non-traditional American food near Tokyo Station. The restaurant's entrance is about a two-minute walk from the Yaesu Central exit of Tokyo station. We had a reservation of 5:30 but arrived early. They were able to seat us right away. The tomato bisque was delicious as was the salad we ordered (sorry I don't remember which salad). This restaurant caters to Japanese and has no English menu. Owner Owner/chef does speak good English but he is in the kitchen. Staff have limited vocabulary. Naturally the food was excellent. However the ambience and service were equally good. Found the beer to be extremely well balanced and the sake superior. Loved the meal and will definitely return next visit to Tokyo.
