I stumbled upon this place while web surfing before our trip to Tokyo and made a reservation on Opentable (which is very convenient because a lot of restaurants in Japan take reservation only by phone) a week ahead. It is about 5 min walk from Ebisu station in a quiet neighbourhood. You have to go up a hill but not for long. There seemed to be good restaurants along the way. Inside, very cozy casual atmosphere. Basically we were the only tourists, the place was packed with local 20~30 somethings. Good list of wine and beverage. Tasty food in reasonable portions. The only let down is that it takes a loooooooooooooong time for a dish to come out as there are only 2 chefs working. People didn't seem to mind this delay as they took their time drinking and talking but we had to take off for another appointment so I would advise you to go here only if you have plenty of time to spare ar night. At least 2~3 hours. MoreOpenTable Diner -

Step into the dazzling and sparkling Ebisu area. When you go up the stairs of a non-descript building, you will find the entrance with a sliding door that you can feel Japanese tradition and silence, and it opens with a delightful crispy sound. The interior of the restaurant is filled with elegance, and it creates an atmosphere that is suitable for various scenes. From yakitori brought along with the rich fragrance, you will feel ”umami" more and more every time you bite. After having a lively conversation in our restaurant with the people you come with for two hours, you would realize that you become closer to them. Please visit our restaurant that attracts adults and serve you an authentic food. More

The theme of this restaurant is “innovation based on a thorough knowledge of the past”, French traditions infused with a new sensibility based on consciousness of seasonality, texture and aroma. Vegetables imbued with the spirit of trustworthy producers and the freshest fish from the Bungo Channel (between Kyushu and Shikoku) and Hokuriku (the central region of the coast of the Sea of Japan), delicately combined with sauces in the spirit of “temps modernes”, are both profound and expansive. The aim is to create light and healthy food which stimulates all five senses.

My husband and I went to khumbila for our anniversary dinner. The restaurant has a lovely quirky feel with different levels and Nepalese wooden pieces scattered throughout. I will definitely be returning soon. MoreOpenTable Diner -
The restaurant was able to fulfill my wish on really short notice to be seated in a room where a scene of popular television show Terrace House was taken. Subsequently we had a room all to ourselves. I recommend the osake premium. I asked for it to be warm (hotto) and they did an excellent job. The website of Toraji is very user friendly for making reservations: it is even possible to choose a reservation by subject: business meeting, group, location with a view OR choose by location (lots of Toraji venues all over Tokio). I like it that we were allowed to barbecue the meat by ourselves. Korean barbecue restaurants 9with Korean staff own by Koreans) sometimes have a cook standing at your table which invades my privacy; suki janai desu. The barbecue plate does not get smokey or burnt during the entire barbecue. If you like Korean barbecue with a Japanese twist, go for Toraji. Japan takes foreign and improve it in their own perfect sense. Oishii deshita! Toraji ga daisuki! MoreOpenTable Diner -
