Sun an issue when sitting next to window. Food was good and service very good.
Our server was almost non existent. 35 minutes after we were seated we still hadn’t put in our appetizer order. In that time she only visited our table twice. The food was excellent thankfully. There were only 3 tables in the main dining room, so zero excuse that she was busy. It was truly ridiculous that an establishment of this caliber would have such an issue with service.
My friend and I had a wonderful time at Cedar Knoll. It was our first brunch there and we were seated in the room hosting George Washington's portrait! I don't know the formal name of the room. We were seated promptly and were served delicious mini-buttermilk biscuits with peppered jelly. They were SO good! We both had the bacon cheeseburger and switched out the fries for a veggie medley. Everything was so delicious. The bun tasted like a very light textured Challah type bread. They gave us two patties each of the beef which was top-notch. I loved our room with beautiful antiques galore, and knowing it is a historical farm owned at one time by George Washington himself created more intrigue. They also have other separate rooms where you can be seated. Prices were great for what we ate. Very reasonable. No upcharge for the veggies. Highly recommend!
This is our go to restaurant for our out of town guests. The food is outstanding and unique with amazing flavor combinations. The ambiance is also unique, bathed in history. The perfect spot for lunch or dinner.
Outstanding Valentine's day dinner, but I feel it was a bit expensive. This is good for one-time customers, but I will not be back again for special dinner celebrations; just too expensive.
The food was fantastic. The ambience very nice. The overall experience was greatly damaged by a group of drinkers in the small, intimate dining room. When we arrived four people were sitting on the sofa in front of the fireplace drinking liquor. As the evening wore on, they were joined by six more drinkers. The space was not designed for that many people and their activities were not compatible with couples out for a special night of a romantic dinner. It was not entertaining to listen to them overtalking one another to claim they were more red necked than the others. The party was getting even louder as we left. Management should not have seated 10 people in a small space to drink alcohol for an extended length of time. When we came in, we thought the people were waiting for a table to be seated for dinner. Little did we know, our entire evening was to be overshadowed by their rudeness.
This was my first time there and it was so amazing! The food was so delicious!
The restaurant is always charming to me. I love the food and the beautiful plates. The service wasn’t as good this last time. My water wasn’t filled and since we were almost done, I didn’t want to wait forever so I just drank my husband’s water instead. Our bill was also erronously overcharged by $28. Nevertheless, we will come back again as we do love this cozy place and hopefully we will get better service next time. ☺️
The food and environment was absolutely amazing. The wait staff was professional and the other for diners were a pleasure as well
We came for Valentine’s Day. It was also our first time dining here after becoming familiar with the restaurant following our wedding at the nearby River Farm. It was a very pleasant dining experience with a lovey quiet ambiance of simple surrounding conversation instead of unwanted satellite music. We were able to have conversation without yelling. The table were dotted with rose petals and the severs were attentive without being overbearing or hovering. The food was very good and well spaced by courses so as not to overwhelm the pallet or overfill the stomach. Overall a lovely experience.
My reservation was for Valentine’s Day. Cedar Knoll created a special menu for the day and the food was delicious! Here is the menu.
The hospitality and atmosphere was great! The history of the location and the building is very interesting and historical. The location and views of the water beautiful.
I cannot wait to go back and experience their regular menu items.
The food here is always outstanding and it was no exception for this trip. The service was not that great at all though. After we were served our entree's our server never refilled my boyfreinds iced tea or came back to ask us how our entrees were (they were outstanding but no one ever checked in). My boyfriend went most of the meal really thirsty and his drink was finally refilled when we asked about dessert. This was the first time service here was bad though & we come here 3-4 times a year.
Wonderful night, with superb service and excellent food.
Thought the piece of grouper was quite small (tail end) and one shrimp for the price of the dish. They brought another shrimp when I questioned the small portion. Otherwise, the ambience is lovely and the staff very pleasant!
We had a great time and highly recommend it! The food, service, and ambiance were excellent, and we plan on going again.
I enjoy this restaurant every time I eat there. The two people I was with last week were there for the first time and they thought the evening was outstanding. Keep up the good work.
Food was very good. We had the brunch menu but had thought we were there for the lunch menu. I enjoyed the fried chicken salad, but would have like more than the 4 potato chips that were served with it.! Nicoise was a little disappointing , very small serving. The bloody Mary's were very good, I think the juice was homemade. We had been for dinner when it first opened and thought it was pricey and very small portions. Portions were still pretty small and $30 each for lunch seems high to me.
I had not been to Cedar Knoll in a long time. We went for Saturday brunch. It was difficult to make a selection from the many delicious-sounding choices. I chose "the Nest Egg." It was a feast for the eye and perfectly prepared. I will go back soon for a rerun! The service was excellent, and we could see the river from our table. I highly recommend Cedar Knoll for brunch or lunch.
Not much to recommend about this place. Nice interior, though standard of food is quite iffy. Starter of mussels was like a tomato soup gone wrong. Venison on its own was ok, but sadly it was accompanied by a thousand clumsy ingredients from Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. Orange meringue tart was just plain awful - bitter taste (in no way sharp and sweet) and thick, dense and salty pastry which looked like something from a Picasso painting. Wine (Viognier from the USA) also not good. At $200 for 2, I left feeling slightly diddled. I won’t go back, and I wouldn’t recommend. Not sure where the website’s pictures were taken - must have been at a different restaurant. Sorry Cedar Knoll - you need to do better...
Another great meal. We made reservations and were seated pretty quickly. Wait staff were great as was the food. We will definitely go again.
It was a wonderful dining experience and I will come again, hopefully, in the near future. Thank you for the very enjoyable experience.
We love coming here. Great food and service!
Wonderful birthday celebration! Food was fantastic. Great atmosphere.
Excellent on the food. Ambiance very pleasant. Wait staff did a fine job
It was a nice experience, but I felt the service was a bit slow. I think they just another waiter/waitress to help out.
Wonderful service. Great food. Loved the Bichon Frise cocktail. Can’t say enough about this great lunch.
This is a nice, quiet place for a dinner date or lunch with friends. Nice water view, near Washington's Mount Vernon Estate.
Great view for my wife, my back was to the window. The table could be rotated so both guests can enjoy the view. We were there for Restaurant Week. Probably should have ordered from the regular menu. The price difference was not much and I typically do not eat dessert. The least expensive bottle of wine is $39, and it goes way up from that. So, I will not spend 2-4 times the cost of dinner for a bottle of wine I have not tasted. We did not order wine.
We are very glad to have this gem in our neighborhood and have dined here quite a bit. Nice atmosphere and a very good to excellent culinary experience every time, including this time! The service during this visit was friendly but slow and not as attentive as we’ve experienced during all of our past visits. We weren’t in a hurry and were having good conversation, but other patrons pointed this out. Worth a reminder to staff about paying attention to tables - timely ordering taking, beverage status/water refills and checking in to see how things are going/if anything is needed. We know that this will be addressed and we’ll be back!
We chose this restaurant during Restaurant Week because we had heard great things and the menu looked enticing. Plus, the Restaurant week price made it affordable to try.
Unfortunately the food did not live up to what we had been told by others, especially for the price. We had one order of fish and one of the braised ribs with ravioli. When the entree came out we were both brought the fish. I said I didn't order fish and so it took another 10 minutes before I got my dish of braised ribs w/ravioli. The meat was tender enough but quite dry and had no real flavor to it. The ravioli was good although no sauce of any kind on it so overall it was just a mediocre meal. The next day a colleague asked me how I like it because she had been a few days before and had recommended it, especially the braised ribs - because of the sauce. I realized then that the sauce was never put on my meal. Had I known it was supposed to come with one I would have sent it back. My guess is that because they got my order wrong in the first place, they threw together the plate and forgot to put the sauce on it, and that is what was supposed to make the meal so tasty.
With so many restaurants to chose from in our area I don't think I will be returning here anytime soon. The price isn't justified for the overall quality of the food.
Cedar Knoll was excellent. We were seated in the cabin room which seemed less popular but was actually the original building. It’s a charming room with high ceiling, exposed wood, a massive hearth and raging fire. The service was very good throughout the meal and the waiting staff was knowledgeable. The food was also delicious. The main course prices were a bit high, but all else was reasonable including the wine. There was a mix of families dates and us - a small group of friends. I gave it four stars because after we paid the bill we sat and chatted for another 40 minutes or so and they never checked on us or refilled our water.
My wife and I came here for date night and everything from the people to the ambiance was enjoyable.
Very pleasant surprise. Even on a snowy evening the restaurant was abuzz and cozy. Great food and drink. Service was good couple of new young servers who were very nice but still learning. Lobster and scallops were excellent. As was the mussels and the fried goat cheese salad. Overall great experience. Romantic quiet and cozy. We highly recommend. Will be back.
Loved the view, fun ambiance, and delicious, creatively presented meal.
Absolutely wonderful! The food was fantastic as was the staff. Only problem is everything on the menu looks so wonderful it's hard to chose. Figured the best thing would be to come back every weekend and try something different. A real gem.
New Years dinner excellent. Seated in the sun/garden room. Several courses served for the New Years dinner complete with champagne. Specialty cocktail was delicious. Meal was very good. Unfortunately out of the Filet Mignon but the Lamb was a good substitute.
This is a real gem. The seasonal bisque, in particular, is an all time great, the river views are lovely, and you can hear in a low noise environment.
The Christmas Eve menu was extra special! Not only was it delicious but the whole evening was festive! Cedar Knoll is good any time but their special events are just that, special!
