Wonderful evening of food and music, highly recommend it
We were scheduled for Saturday but thunderstorms were predicted, so they called everybody and moved the reservations and entertainment to Sunday, which had perfect weather for an evening out. Musical review singers were excellent. Tables were quite far apart. Stage had clear screens. Including tips, it wasn't a cheap evening but with almost all live entertainment cancelled, it was special.
Dinner was expensive with a very limited menu. Service was excellent and entertainment was very good. Special drinks were nice as well. My only major gripe was the price. . . not great value for the money.
Cabaret. Very entertaining and superb food!
I am a huge fan of the PaperMill so when I heard Carriage House was doing outdoor dining I couldn't wait to try it out! This review is for the Sunday brunch. It was easy to get a reservation and from the second I arrived I felt comfortable, which is absolutely paramount these days. I appreciated the temperature check and the fact that the server (who was fantastic!) allowed us to select our own table. The tables were more than 6ft apart as well. The setting along the brook is absolutely stunning, the best view in Millburn by far! The food was absolutely 5 stars and was one of the best brunches I've ever had. Generous portions (my frittata came with sausage, potatoes, and fruit) and the service was wonderful. Extremely kind and accommodating. I can't wait to return for both dinner and brunch again!
We went on a "Cabaret Night" - Susie & Joe did two great sets. She's very personable and entertaining. Sun was setting behind the trees at 7PM and a nice breeze made for very comfortable dining. There are no coverings, so keep a "weather eye" when making reservations. Masks are required until you're seated and the hostess checked everyone's temperature on entry. Large bottle of hand sanitizer available on check-in, too. A prix fixe menu was provided with four very appealing entrées. Cod was excellent. The only thing people were having an issue with was the wait for the rest rooms. You were asked to notify your server if you needed to use the facilities and would then be notified when they were available. This created a bit of a backup.
My boyfriend and I tried the Carriage House after reading great reviews on Open Table. We made reservations for an early dinner on a Saturday. The menu is prix fixe, so for $65 you can choose an app and entree. Keep in mind desert is not included. I had the chilled carrot soup and short rib and my boyfriend had the peach salad and chicken dinner. To say the least the food was good, not great. We though the price was a bit outrageous considering the quality. So we spent $200 on on average dinner with no drinks. Overpriced!!!!
Wonderful setting, food and service.
So happy to be back to this wonderful place. We usually dine here before each PaperMill show. Food was delicious and they were very helpful and concerned about our safety. Outdoor seating was socially distant. It was a great experience. Can't wait to go back.
a lovely eve in a beautiful courtyard- and the dinner was excellant!
Social distancing and sanitizing was spot on. The background music was from Broadway plays which was perfect since we were eating outside the Paper Mill Playhouse. The food and drinks were great and the dessert was amazing. The wait staff was extremely outgoing and friendly. We will be going again and again.
The food is fantastic. Asian influences are the best accents to many of the dishes!
Great service and scrumptious brunch items with delicious brunch drinks
A bit expensive (e.g., 10$ for a small bowl of soup on top of the 30$ pre fixe menu price for 2 courses (small bowl of mixed fruit and entree)). The food was really good, but not exceptional.
We went for Father’s Day brunch and the food and service were both outstanding. The setting was perfect as well. Couldn’t have been better!
Wonderful food, ambiance, service, and cabaret!
We were a little nervous to go since we haven't been out since mid March but we were very happy with what they did. They had sanitizer before you walked in, they took your temperature, and you had to wear a mask until you sat down at the table. The tables were at least 6 foot apart. The waiters were wearing gloves and a mask at all times and the food was great even though there was a limited menu!
Excellent meal! Service was impeccable. Tables were well spaced. Everyone had their masks on during service. We greatly appreciated their attentiveness to safety. Food was fantastic. Highly recommend.
This is the nicest outdoor dining in the area. Tables are set up between the restaurant and the Paper Mill Playhouse and overlook the brook. The prix fixe menu is imaginative and delicious. We came for opening night, but will return for the Saturday entertainment and the Sunday brunch. Love this restaurant!
We always enjoy coming here prior to a show at the Papermill. The food can be very good (the squash soup was terrific and my husband loved his lamb. My fish was just ok, but the rest of the meal was good.) They make a good drink; the service is terrific; the restaurant is hugely convenient and relaxing to come to prior to the show. And, the new bar upstairs is a treat. It's how we do the Papermill.
The Carriage House provides gourmet food at affordable prices. And the service staff are fabulous, taking care of every need, and recommending excellent dining choices.
The Carriage House Restaurant hours coincide with the shows at the Papermill Playhouse so they're not always open.
Wait Service was a bit chaotic with mistakes and lack of complete info.
fixed price menu for Paper Mill show nights. Pricey and limited selection but quality is excellent. Service was great. Parking across street and both parking and restaurant very convenient to show.
Very pleasant, good service and food, though portions small.
I have enjoyed both dinner and lunch at Carriage House (not at the same time!). The food preparation and taste is superb. The atmosphere is quaint and the entire experience is wonderful. The waitstaff is attentive without being annoying. I always pass on my compliments to the Chef!
We enjoyed the whole experience. The fact that you were so accommodating when we were stuck in traffic and had to call to say we would be a half hour late was very much appreciated. The food was delicious and the staff couldn't have been more attentive. Wonderful experience.
Carriage House was a wonderful experience. The three course meal was delicious with a nice variety of menu choices for all three courses. It was a pleasure to park, go right into dinner to just walk across the walkway right into the theatre.
Couldn’t be more convenient to the Papermill . The menu was very heavy on garlic though -we had to turn back the butternut squash soup and garlic Panko crumbs on the fish and chips was odd and unnecessary . Rolls were cold - always disappointing . Very pretty space.
My veal bacon ragout was tasty.
service was well meaning but spotty. Heard that the Loft upstairs was charming and quiet and less expensive /will try that next time.
This is a beautiful restaurant with excellent service. Have been here many times before a performance at the Papermill. The current menu was our least favorite and we were seated next to a very large and lively group which made having a conversation very difficult. However, we will return.
NIce variety offered on the $50 Prix Fixe dinner menu. Presentation and quality of the food was very good. Such a convenient location right at the theater. Definitely worth dining at.
My husband and I go to 3 plays a year at the Papermill Play House and dine at the Carriage House before each performance .
LOVE IT !!!!
It would be nice if at least one "good old American" entree was included on the luncheon menu, instead of all the upscale stuff. Your bloody mary is fabulous!
The three course menu is a good value since all the food is prepared in place and served quickly. The option of a dairy free soup was great. My only suggestion would be to have a choice of a different vegetable side if needed.
I just told a friend about it as she is considering going to a show in the future.
First time here but would definitely come back. Service was spot on and charming ambiance. Soups and salads were very good. Entrees were good but those who got the lobster pasta were disappointed not to get any real pieces of lobster. Desserts were innovative but no one was blown away by them.
Terrific value... food is good, price reasonable, wine selection quite adequate. And then... 100 feet from the Playhouse.
Since you arrive earlier than most play goers (for dinner before the play) you can park very nearby... making the entire experience -parking, dining, play, exit - enjoyable.
Great for pre-show at Papermill, but everyone rushes in and out at same time so wouldn’t recommend if not attending the show. Food was absolutely delicious!!!!!
Excellent dining outstanding food
We were detained because of a flat tire. They held our table.
Service was perfect.
A lovely place to enjoy a wonderful meal prior to enjoying the show offered at the Papermill. Everyone we have brought with us to the show and restaurant have been very pleased. Terrific and caring staff - outstanding chef and great choices on wine and cocktails.
This is an excellent spot for a pre theatre dinner at the Paper Mill Playhouse. Or any occasion. The prefix menue at $50.0 was a good value and the food was excellent.
