Carmine's - 91st Street - NYC
Platters of made to order antipasto, pasta, decadent seafood or meat entrees, and of course homemade desserts are all staples at Carmine's, meant for sharing among friends and family. When great food and wine are supported by friendly and knowledgeable service, the results are magic - we want every day to feel like a Sunday afternoon at Grandma's!
What is the point of making a reservation when you have to wait? We arrived 15mins early and can understand waiting a few mins but its upsetting to see multiple parties (ranging from 2-6 persons) seated before us. We went to the hostess to ask what was the hold up as we were the only bot being seated and it was 15 mins AFTER our reserved time. We were RUDELY told they didnt have a table for our party and we would need to wait. Can you imagine our surprise when we saw at least 10 empty tables once we were finally seated in the back of the restaurant. The food is great but the hostess ruined the entire mood. I cant imagine coming to this location again if thats how they treat people.
It was a Saturday, a day after Valentine’s Day so it’s expected to be a little crowded. My reservation was for 9:30, I arrived, and had to wait about 30 mins for a table at the bar. No a problem. Once seated, the food serving is enormous, it’s served for at least 4 people. But was it amazing. The fried calamari and the lasagna afterwards was amazing. Well, worth the experience and the money. I’ll be back. But I’ll be back with more people so they can help me and my wife finish the food. Amazing place. Amazing server. I loved it.
I have been going here for over 10 years. My only complaint is I came with two people that were not from Newyork and had never experienced carmines and they didn’t have any bread to serve before the meal. This is a great disservice as their bread is great.I told my guest about it before hand only to not be able to receive the bread with our meal
I love the the atmosphere and services. The food is always on point.
The entire experience was fantastic! It was my first Valentine's day with my new girlfriend and Carmine's gave it an extra sense of romance! Our waiter Chris was fantastic, gave us all the information we needed and never too pushy. 10/10 service and when we come back, I'll definitely ask to work with him again. Great, delicious food selection that made us feel like we got a great bang for our buck.
Linguini and white clam sauce is the best - also 1st time tried the portobello parmigiana excellent so it will not be my last
Way more food than we needed, but it was AMAZING! We have been recommending them everywhere! Class act!
Had a great time! Of course I couldn’t finish any of it lol it was a pleasurable experience! Cannot wait to go back
Waited 50 minutes for our table despite having a reservation.
Service was non existent. We had to serve our selfs. Very disappointed.
Took my fiancé to eat for our anniversary drove 2 hours just to eat here and it took a hour and a half to get our food which was not what we ordered then you guys continued to mess up the order till I told the waiter never mind because we were no longer hungry because of the such long wait the waiter was then very rude and ignored us .. so I just paid for my appetizers and left NEVER AGAIN !
Birthday dinner. Servings are big and filling and very affordable
Everything was great, just hate to wait to be seated but it is to be expected at one of NYC’s famous dining landmarks.
Great food, even better service. You can't go wrong with Carmine's. Carmine Salad was amazing, chicken parm was very good, Vodka Penne excellent.
GREAT FOOD, QUALITY SERVICE...
The food was great the only disappointment was the short haired black woman at the reservation desk extremely rude and unprofessional
This was my first time going to Carmines. My husband and I went to celebrate our Anniversary. The food was delicious, I will definitely go back but with a bigger group. We were unable to finish all our food and we shared a meal.
Pasta portion was fine but the chicken portion was super tiny. The Carmine salad was too acidic. The ice cream desert lacked ice cream. Should have been called whipped cream desert.
Customer Service was superb! Everyone was very friendly. Food was amazing!
We had a reservation, arrived on time and were seated in the basement near the kitchen door and were told it was an excellent table. The wait staff was willing to reseat us after much discussion. When we requested tap water, the wait staff continued to push, push and push the expensive bottled water. The appetizers and entrees arrived cold. The food and drinks were OK, but the wait staff was rude. Sadly, no one in our party will be going back.
Waitress was very helpful and very attentive
The food is excellent in this restaurant. The ambiance is great and I have been here many times and the service has always been outstanding, however last Sunday I was celebrating my birthday and the waitress who served us was not friendly at all. She rushed all food and picked the plates even before we were finished eating. She decided who drinks coffee or not, and told my two nieces 26 and 24 year old, not to drink coffee because they did not have the age to do it. Some other few things that almost 15 of my guest complaint about. It is sad that this happens in this great restaurant because some of my guest were there for the first time. By the way, the waiters helping her, were very good.
Carmine’s is an amazing place to dine. The food is always exceptional and plentiful. However, this particular time the wait to be seated was a bit of a challenge. I made reservations for 8:30pm on a Saturday night. I anticipated it being busy but did not expect the chaos that I walked into. I was checked in by the first host on the stairs. He informed me that I was the next 2-person that was to be seated and that I will have to wait a few minutes. I decided to stay near the stairs as he said my wait would only be a few minutes. That was a huge mistake because there packs of people waiting to be seated in that small area. In addition to that, you had those who were dining and drinking at the bar in the same area and the wait staff running food and bussing dishes to and from that area. It was beyond chaotic. Then there’s no direction from the hosts at all. No updates, nada. 20 minutes later, I ask again and was told that I’m next and that my name will be called. So, I wait some more. Within a few minutes another host yells out a different party of 2 and walks them to their table. I guess I wasn’t the next 2- person party as I was told. I wait a few more minutes and walk up to the host station up the stairs and speak to one of the hosts up there. She tells me that they’re clearing some tables and that she will “try” to get me one of those tables. Try?!? I didn’t understand that at all. A few minutes later, I’m called back downstairs and they cannot find my reservation at all. Two hosts were looking through their iPad trying to find my name while the male host who confirmed my reservation stood there and watched them look. It was a sight to see.
Finally, 30 minutes later, we are seated and presented with a menu. Our waiter, although polite and hospitable, asks us if we’ve been to Carmine’s before. He begins his spiel and doesn’t give us information on specials for the day but provides that information to the large party that sat next to us.
The worst customer service New York City has to offer!
Great food. Great experience.
Always reliable for a festive kids birthday. Advance reservations HIGHLY recommended on weekends. The ice cream Sunday mountain was a huge hit.
Had a wonderful family style meal at Carmines after a matinee. Arrived exactly on time and were seated at our table within five minutes. Enjoyed the busy atmosphere. Our waiter was attentive and the food delicious!
Good as always. Just to much sauce in pasta. Food has not the same standards than before.
I have had several graduation parties at Commons two of my grandchildren have had their high school graduation parties service wassup her the food was superb I took my goddaughter there there last week on Thursday the waiter took no time whatsoever and I felt somewhat slide it due to a ratio and balance I felt The waiter took no time with our party he spent more time with the white with the white party next to us this was my first and only bad experience that I have had at, mines I travel from Long Island Suffolk county to Manhattan to eat there the food is usually excellent the ambience is great
The waiter was very rude. When my party was walking out, waiters and runners kept walking into us and didn’t apologize. I went for my birthday dinner I’m never going back.
Food and service was excellent. Celebrated a birthday for my significant other they sang it was nice. Would definitely go back.
It is my birthday tradition since I turned 16 to dine at Carmine’s for my birthday. I am in my 40s now. While some of the staff faces have changed, the food is just as delicious as the first meal I enjoyed there. Much thanks to Charlie, our waiter, who made the evening extra special with all of our celebrations!!
Very large open atmosphere, with a plenty of space between tables. The food was fresh and everything came out the way it was supposed to be. Family style restaurant so obviously the portions are large and plenty for a 3-4 person table. Price was very fair for the amount of food we got.
Waitstaff and service was exceptional. We were seated almost immediately, and they even moved us to a different table per our request in short order.
We especially appreciated the phone call after we already left in a cab that a pair of shoes was forgotten at the table. We were able to come back to the restaurant and retrieve them before it was too late.
Excellent service and menu suggestions from our waitress. We had a great time with family and friends. Reservations are a must!
The food was super delicious and the service was outstanding!! Charlie had us laughing all night and had the best recommendations. We had a really great night out!
The food was excellent and our waiter was outstanding!
The service was fast and nice. With reservation the table gets ready much faster and i like that, otherwise you would have to wait a long time. The food was very good and was served fast. Our waiter Rahim was very nice and fun. Def recommed this place to take family on a dinner.
Great restaurant! Will patron again. I have to remember its family style so I shouldnt order so much
Not as touristy as Times Square Carmines but the food is exact which is always superb. The service was more personable due to they don't have to deal with tourist as much. Awesome experience as always!
We have been to Carmines in Las Vegas and in Lincoln RI many years ago (since closed). Was very good on all points. Found NY VERY loud and over crowded, food ok (not super flavorful). Price was as expected for the portions, but $74.00 for a seafood dish rediculous! Cocktails way overpriced as well!
