Calle Dao - Bryant Park
The cuisine, cocktails and décor of Calle Dao strive to transport our guests back to El Barrio Chino when it was at the height of its existence. Calle Dao has created mouthwatering dishes that seamlessly blend Cuban staples with Asian flavors. The cocktails, created by Mixologist Joy Daniel, also meld the old world with the new using historic names for libations with modern ingredients
Step into a bygone era and enjoy a modern dining experience at Calle Dao.
A great fusion of Asian with Cuba. We enjoyed tapas style. Black beans and rice were perfect. Ceviche was mixed with avocado and hint of spice.
Great food, good drinks (mojitos!), and outstanding service. Very loud - the place was hopping. Not really conducive to quiet conversations... just know that going in!
Our waiter, Damien, made the experience extra enjoyable as he was fun and attentive. The food was amazing!! We got the bao buns, steamed dumplings, and the star was definitely the Cuban fried rice with pork and shrimp. I’ve never had anything it. The blood orange sangria was strong and not too sweet. The ambiance was perfect for a summer date night. The restaurant is well run and a lot of fun. We will definitely be back.
Great local gem. Go often! So much better than most local, casual offerings for lunch in midtown.
Our meal was absolutely delicious and the service was great. It was a birthday and the waiter brought the dessert out with a candle, and did not charge us for the birthday dessert. Definitely plan on coming back, a truly wonderful restaurant.
Very tasty cocktails and delicious food!
The food was really good. It’s Cuban style Chinese food, their happy hour cocktails are highly recommended. However, the environment was really noisy. My friend and I sit in a small table but we still hardly hear each other. Music and other customers were both too loud, and waiter did nothing. So I would not recommend this place to small group like two or three people. But it is a good choice for large groups.
Great vibe & always lots of fun. Everything was a bit on the sweet side - the drinks & the food, but we will return and soon.
A little off the beaten path and was excited about happy hour options. Not really any specials from 4-7 other than the menu reprinted on a “happy hour” menu. Interesting food combinations, little overpriced for what it was.
The food was inventive, delicious, and nicely served. However, the spot is TINY, the tables close together, and the din deafening. We were having a tasty and well-priced lunch, so we left as soon as we finished to seek a more quiet place to chat.
The server was great and super attentive!
Friendly staff, super cute Chinese-Cuban decor, creative food— recommend it.
Misleading: Definitely Not Bryant Park. On a dark street atleast a block from the park.
Food is good; try the whole fish and paella. Unless you get there earlier, the noise level is impossible.
Have more than one bartender at the bar during happy hour.
Great to find such a place around the corner from our hotel after being delayed for 5 hours on a flight. We sat near the open windows at the front where the noise level was minimal. We were well attended to with drinks and food. My gin cocktails were tailored to perfection, as my preference is less sweet, more boozy! Food portions were quite large and very tasty. The place is not pretentious and easy to walk on by. My daughter makes it a point to come here when in the area of Bryan Park. We had an absolutely perfect ending to a lousy day. Cannot wait to visit again.
I met a friend here during happy hour and we loved the vibe of Calle Dao and the oxtail croquetas were to die for!
We really enjoyed our lunch at Calle Dao, felt like we were in Havana. Charming decor and nice service. The only complaint I would have is that the mojitos are really small. The Cuban Asian thing did not really click for us, you either ordered something Asian or Cuban, it did not seem to be a meshing of the cultures with the food. The mushroom spring rolls were fantastic and we had the Cuban roast pork sandwiches - lunch special which were tasty.
Our waiter was hilarious and so friendly! He made the experience that much better. The dumplings were really good. And the rest of the menu was inventive! Would go back.
My friend and I came in after work around 6pm on a Tuesday. The service was excellent, the vibe was nice, the food was solidly mediocre and not really worth the price (though nothing was crazy expensive). It was typical midtown prices: we got the ceviche (not much actual fish among the avocado and other stuff they serve it with, flavor was fine), happy hour Cuban sliders (very dry), and the Asian pear salad (description sounded delicious but not much going on flavor-wise in the actual served dish). We also got mojitos (weak and too sweet), and a house red (decent). We spent around $35 each.
We ordered two entrées and three apps and shared between the three of us. Absolutely delicious!!!!! Highly recommend the paella. Our server was funny and enthusiastic and we wanted for nothing all evening. Checked in on yelp and got free yucca fries! Yum!
Calle Dao has a very interesting fusion menu which is why I was very excited to try the place for lunch. We loved the ambiance but the server was very slow in taking our order. Food was all good but not the best lunch spot in the city. Overall, we had a pleasant experience and I would come back if I was in the area.
Such a midtown lunch paradise in comparison to the rest of the stuffy competition. Fun atmosphere and decor, tasty and affordable lunch options. Service is inconsistent so be careful booking if you have a meeting to get to. You might not make it back in time.
The food was kind of mediocre and not authentic Chinese nor Cuban. The seasoning was very underwhelming.
Fried rice was excellent. Eggs at whole table arrived overcooked. Bottomless policy was futsy and made us feel lectured when we were trying to relax and enjoy.
Fantastic food. We went for brunch. Very creative menu
Mediocre is the word I would use for this place. And that may be a bit of a reach - saved by the blood orange sangria. Food was OK. Service below par. And value - non existent. Skip.
The Cuban spring rolls and skirt steak were delicious! Loved the 5 spice cocktail. Id have trouble deciding to try other things on the menu or going with these items again. They were so good!
Happy hour deal and the food was good, and server was excellent, but the place was way too loud for a dinner date!
Food was good and the service was excellent!!. My husband and I enjoyed a great dinner at Calle Dao!
One of our favorites. The wait staff is extraordinary. Everyone works in concert to insure the guests want for nothing. Justin and Marvin made our evening perfect. Our favorite is the paella and every time we order it it's delicious. Ambiance feels authentic to the theme, music appropriate and as always we can't wait to return.
The feel of Havana. Wednesday lunch at noon. Bright and quiet inside but for the Cuban music which added to the lovely vibe-ambiance. Ate empanadas, dumplings and tofu stir fry with a Cuba Libre (rum & coke). Everything was delicious. Small critic, the dumplings tasted like sausage inside and the tofu was a little tough from being fried. But the stir fry sauce was delicious. Finished with the bunuelos (you don’t need the chocolate dip to savor these)and cafe con leche. Perfection.
One of our favorite neighborhood gems- outstanding happy hour menu!
great halpy hour and lively atmosphere
The food was amazing, but the drinks were too sweet & was very hard to hear the other people at my table.
Yes i would recommend Calle Dao to my friend. My waiter was amazing, the food delicious, the ambiance perfect, noise level good and the music perfect. Everybody is happy at this establishment
The food was great; but the service very very poor. We waiting over 25 minutes just to place our order and we were sitting right next to the kitchen. When they bought out the food they forgot someones order and had to rush back in to make it. Not thrilled.
So all we saw was the brunch menu and decided to go but we didn’t show up until dinner. This restaurant exceeded my expectations.
My boyfriend got the beef and broccoli- this was delicious and an unexpected treat- similar to a twist on ramen.
I got the roasted chicken, it was very good I would ask for some extra sauce.
The CAULIFLOWER was amazing!!!!!! I’ve never enjoyed a vegetable this much! Must try!
Bottomless drinks on Sunday amazing and very reasonability priced
It was an early birthday celebration but I truly enjoyed my first visit to Calle Dao. The food was outstanding.
