Calle Dao - Bryant Park
The cuisine, cocktails and décor of Calle Dao strive to transport our guests back to El Barrio Chino when it was at the height of its existence. Calle Dao has created mouthwatering dishes that seamlessly blend Cuban staples with Asian flavors. The cocktails, created by Mixologist Joy Daniel, also meld the old world with the new using historic names for libations with modern ingredients
Step into a bygone era and enjoy a modern dining experience at Calle Dao.
Fabulous food. Large portions. String and creative cocktails. Avoid the pig ear though wasn't really what I expected.
Great team, fantastic food.
Great cocktails, yummy eclectic menu - and fantastic friendly service. Interesting crowd and decor - nice vibe.
Server was very helpful in recommending appetizers and entrees. Atmosphere is very cozy, a tad cramped to some. Octopus appetizer was delicious as was my Monte Cristo cocktail. My salmon entree was good, maybe on the small side. Hubby’s beef and broccoli could have been richer and more seasoned. Still, the vibe was cool, good music and energy.
"energetic" is a euphemism for way too noisy, which it is when full, which it is most of the time.
But, food and waiter, Justin, made it a great experience. However, need some kind of noise reduction in the floor, ceiling, tables, etc. for my taste
Been here on multiple occasions. Brought a couple new friends to enjoy the brunch. While we had no problems with our waiter (very attentive and hilarious), the owner/manager woman kind of stalked our table when we were wrapping up.
We saw her making hand gestures towards us while waiting for our check, when we inquired about the after meal ice treat (my main reason for going), we were told they were all out. Made us wonder if she had any say in that. We weren't rowdy, loud or anything; a group of ladies(plus a bun in the oven) enjoying each others company over food, drinks & tea. I won't let her "attitude" deter me from going there again... I really enjoy Calle Dao.
We use the expression “hidden gem” too often but this place is a real gem. The atmosphere is a lovely soft Cuban style, with Caribbean music in the background. Our waiter was outstanding. Relaxed, funny, attentive. The menu is more Cuban than Asian, but we tasted both. Nothing fancy but excellent quality. We didn’t drink but they have a “bottomless” deal that is worth trying. Fantastic place to come with friends.
Amazing food and drinks. The oxtail croquettes were delicious, as were the spring rolls. Service great. Hidden gem!
Surprisingly delicison and interesting combinations.
Food was great
This was our 3rd visit to the restaurant. We had friends visiting from Los Angeles and thought this would be a good choice and it was. We ordered several appetizers to share. Absolutely delicious!! Especially enjoyed the oysters on the 1/2 shell.
Great food and service! Music was awesome the best salsa music!
Way too loud to talk?
Food was very good
Cuban Chinese is something I associate with New York, so I often bring out of towner guests to Calle Dao because it's different and is lovely food.
Very tasty food. We had a salad and 3 appetizers. The waiter recommended that we split a salad and we were glad we did. I would recommend this place for dinner.
Service was great. Water glass was never empty. Orders were out quick and food was hot and tasted great. Had Cuban sandwich spring rolls with a mustard-lime dipping sauce which was great. I had the Paella with clams, shrimp and black rice and it was great. Not spicy so got to taste the ingredients which were great. My wife had the 5-spice skirt steak and enjoyed it very much. Wait staff was very friendly and made good recommendations about dishes. Had a good by the glass wine list.
My friend and I ordered two appetizers , one was a spring roll and the other was an espanada. both very tasty. For the main course we shared a steak sandwich which was very satisfying. Our waiter was helpful and attentive but allowed us time to talk. Overall, we enjoyed our experience and would visit again.
I always hit up Calle Dao when I’m in NYC. The fusion of flavors is incredible!
Interesting mix of Cuban and Asian in a convenient Midtown setting. The paella I had was excellent. While very noisy to start on a Friday night, it soon moderated (perhaps when people left for the theater) and then it was possible to have real conversation. I will go back.
Great food and great happy hour deals. Very lively atmosphere!
Great dining experience except for the noise. It is not the fault of the restaurant. The noise level is extremely high, one need to shout to be heard which in turns make the overall level even higher. Food was excellent and the portion perfect. Our server was super attentive with a great sense of humor.
Quick pre Theatre dinner. We were running late and the waiter pushed our orders through quickly, which was great.
Friendly and very welcoming. Great food and drinks. Great Vibes !
Great place. Great food and service. Very noisy, however. Good for groups and parties. Not a great place for a quite night out. I guess I’m getting old, lol.
I liked the ambiance but the food was just okay
I wouldn't consider it to be good Chinese or Cuban food. We had the pork dumplings, lechon asado with fried rice, the steak with rice and maduros.
The lechon was pale and under seasoned, everything else was simply okay. The best part of the meal were the dumplings. No need to go back for seconds.
The food was okay. The menu looked incredible, but the flavors didn't live up the what was described. I know it's Murray Hill, but definitely expensive for what you get. But love the vibes of the place. It was super cute. Interesting concept, but I likely won't be back.
None of the small dishes we got were good. They did neither Cuban nor Chinese food any justice, also very expensive
First time here. We shared appetizers and entrees to taste different items. Food was good, service was excellent as was value. We didn't eat much of one entree as it was overcooked and mentioned it in passing to the person cleaning the table. The waiter came over, apologized and had already removed it from the bill. Couldn't find anything to our liking on the desert menu. Would definitely recommend. Try the Paella.
Excellent food and service, we had a wonderful time and I was impressed with the food and staff. Highly recommend!!
great find just 2 blocks from our office. the food was great. service just as good with a great vibe.
we will be back
The food is very basic
Very noisy and hard to have a conversation. But otherwise very good
This is a great fusion restaurant. Food was inventive, high quality, and well-presented. Service was very attentive (granted it was a slow night when we went). Ambiance was nice without being pretentious.
it seems like it would be a good spot for a nice-but-not-super-fancy dinner with friends or date night with your significant other.
We were a group of 6, the Sangria was completely diluted with too many ice cubes. Not worth the price. The paella had sand in it the sea shells or mussels had not been cleaned properly, it was not appropriate to eat. I had the fried rice with shrimps and felt so sick after leaving the restaurant that I puked my guts on the way back home. I wrote to the restaurant and never heard back from them. I will not be returning.
Food and service were OK. The noise level intolerable.
Food was great though service was a bit slow.
The asian food was way too spicy. Overall, I'm not sure I liked this fusion combination... it might work for some, not for me.
Great food, friendly staff!
Food was terrible, half the dishes had no taste.
