Café Murano - St James
Ever reliable, Cafe Murano St James has established itself as a proper grown-up restaurant for grown-ups. Great food and, for the area, great value. The 'signature' Osso Buco with Risotto Milanese is back for autumn - one of my all-time favourite dishes anywhere. The flawless execution, warm service and general air of calm professionalism always impress.
Great service provided by Layla , great Menu and an excellent red wine from the Staffs favourite list.
Lovely Sunday lunch here pre theatre. Highly recommend!
We had a reservation for dinner at 7pm on a Saturday night . The restaurant is conveniently located near our hotel, DUKES in Mayfair. It was recommended by the hotel. we arrived promptly at 7 on a rainy evening to be greeted by a pretentious maitre'd , with a phony Italian accent.
The restaurant was about 1/2 full, at best.
They took our raincoats and umbrellas and then proceeded to try and seat us at a tiny table that could barely accommodate 1 person right next to the coatcheck area. We are always well dressed but perhaps he thought we had just fallen off the turnip truck. At first I thought he was kidding. I told him there was no way were sitting there. After a few minutes they "found" us another table from 1/2 the tables that were still empty.
The table service was ok but not very warm and friendly and the food was good but nothing to write home about. If you want exceptional food and service in that vicinity, I would highly recommend LeCaprice, located a 5 minute walk .
Beautiful food and wine in relaxed but stunning surroundings. Service unobtrusive but attentive. A must if in the area.
One of my favourite restaurants in London, definitely my favourite Italian. Have been a regular for years and the food and service has remained excellent and consistent. They almost always achieve the delicate balance of creating a special elegant atmosphere that is also friendly and welcoming.
Lovely ambiance and delicious food in a beautiful restaurant
The staff are amazing - from the receptionist (who does much more than that) to Ariana, our server on both nights, to the food, everything was great. We will be back every time we are in London.
Cafe Murano is a stylish restaurant with a bust bar area and a couple of different seated areas (you can also eat at the bar). The service is friendly and relaxed, which is unusual in St. James. There is usually a set menu of the day which is good value (I think they offer it between 5.30pm and 7.30pm, but do check). When I went it was from the area around Bologna so a ragu was an obvious choice for main course, and I started with a gorgeous autumnal soup. Dessert for me was a local cheese with hazelnut bread and mustard jelly. All beautifully cooked and presented. It does get busy quite quickly so book ahead.
Perfect Sunday lunch, great menu and service. Will return soon.
Love this place as it delivers top quality yet simple food... Cool place for evenings but also Sunday PM
Welcoming ambiance, attentive service, delicious food
Fabulous meal. A quick supper before the cinema. Service was excellent. Our waiter was very efficient, friendly, fun and just spot on. Food was fab - particularly salt cod croquettes and the amazing chocolate and hazelnut tart. Chic but cosy feel. First time there and will def go back. Highly recommend!
good location. nice food. attentive and knowledgeable waiter.
excellent food, good service and ambiance. sat at counter and enjoyed the experience
Amazing food, cozy and romantic place, highly recommended!
Liked the ambiance of the restaurant. It was nice and relaxing. The service was very good and friendly.
The wine was perfect! We had the octupus and the ricotta as a starter. Both very nice starters. For the main course we had the risotto and the malfatti. If you have the primi as a main course, it was recommended to order to the big portions, however, these were too big, if you already have a starter.
Overall would recommend this restaurant because we had a good relaxing evening.
Pretty average. Terrible table at the front, despite better tables further back. Felt dirty and unkempt with a lot less atmosphere than in previous visits. Servers kept forgetting water for the table and very slow to take drinks orders in general. Food was ok. Perfectly well cooked, but menu limited and dull.
Very tasty fine Italian food, gnocchi portions was a bit small for the price, but I enjoyed desert poached apricot with ricotta and lovely fresh bread with olive oil. Good service.
Inauspicious start with no consideration for table booking request but got a better position and later understood why. This place is Popular. Food was good as was the service. Jumping but not memorable.
My friend and I went to Caffe Murano for our once a year dinner and liked the relaxed atmosphere. Staff were very pleasant. My friend had the hake with nduja, which she said was delicious, and I had the plaice with girolles. I couldn't eat any more but friend had the chocolate tart which was rich but not heavy and that was a success. We both enjoyed the Angela Hartnett Toscano Rosso and found the carafe just enough. Coffee was excellent.
Always wanted to try. Lived up to expectations. Service fast on food and slow on paying. But overall definitely will return
Nice spot in a handy location with attentive staff. Food was a let down, what a pity...
Excellent food, wine and service together with a good atmosphere even though we eat early at 5.30. Will definitely return as there were so many items on the menu which were appealing.
Very minor criticism would be that the wick on our table oil lamp needs to be trimmed on a regular basis to avoid smoking. We are sure that this ‘quality restaurant’ in pursuit of excellence will note this point. Thanks to all at the restaurant for a very enjoyable evening.
Consistently good food. Friendly staff, good atmosphere. When anyone asks where I want to go for lunch I say Cafe Murano.
Hats off to the staff here, smiley, helpful, attentive and just really wonderful. I met an old school friend for a catch up. I asked to be moved along the counter once there was room as I didn't want to sit so near to the door and they couldn't have been nicer about it (and really seemed not to mind) they then helped us order with good sound advice and delicious wine and I came away feeling full and happy and it also seemed brilliant value for the quality of everything we had eaten and drunk.
Really good relaxed atmosphere with excellent service and delicious food. Would definitely recommend.
Great evening at Cafe Murano St James....
Cafe murano was wonderful. Angela manages to make a dish as seemingly simple as spaghetti Pomadoro very special. Nice wine list. Friendly and very competent wait staff. I’ll definitely return. Learn more about the chef by watching The Heat on Netflix.
Ridiculously expensive for variety and portions size. Stuck in a corner table by entrance door
Impromptu lunch on Saturday afternoon. Excellent food. Very pleasant staff. All in all a very enjoyable visit.
Very popular and buzzing restaurant in nice part of town .... St James . They do a fairly good value three course lunch and interesting wine list.
We had a fantastic lunch while we were up in London for the day recently. My husband and I really enjoyed the food and wines which were recommended. We would certainly go back
We ate the set menu which was good value for money. My only criticism was that both the starter (raw sea bass) and the main course (chicken legs) had a bit too much chilli in them. The high ceiling and hard walls made it a bit noisy.
Always outstanding - the food, the staff, the surroundings
Fabulous as ever - wonderfully refined yet relaxed oasis away from the bustle of London - superb food & delicious wines - never lets us down
Fine. Don’t bully me.
Staff was very unhelpful and unwilling to accommodate simple requests. We had an extra guest who wanted to join our table but was dismissively turned down, so he was not able to eat, we were also told the table is only available for 1.5h, which is quite short for full meal.
Really good food. It was very quiet on a Saturday which we appreciated..Good value for money.
The meal was very good and compared favourably with a set lunch we had in a 1 starred Michelin restaurant in Paris last week.
