Café Murano - Covent Garden
courgette, fontina & basil
Salt Cod Fritters
It was not a busy Saturday night on 14/3/2020
We were seated in the very rear of the room
Given menus promptly
Then took ages to get a waiters attention to order anything.
It really want that busy but the service was lacking,so for example after our main course took 5 mins for them to clear our plates and after our meal, no one seemed interested in asking us if we wanted the bill.
So I asked for the bill on my way down to the WC,
when I came back it still hadn’t appeared , so I asked the same waitress again and she intimated that’s she’d asked a colleague to get it.
Sorry that this review isn’t about the food, which was tasty and they also had inexpensive wines by the glass
However as an evening of enjoyment , it was not.
I don’t go out for the evening with the intention of complaining.
I’ve eaten in the St James’ branch, which was much better.
Won’t be rushing back here.
The waiter was unwell (coughing and sniffling) and when asked politely to not stand as close to the customers got very rude and brought govt advice on covid-19 !yelling! at the customers that the restaurant is safe (and still refusing to step away) - no matter what cold/sickness he had she shouldn’t have been serving food when sick! Incredibly rude service, very average food. Do not go.
Fantastic food especially the pasta dishes
Lovely Birthday meal before theatre visit. Excellent service, very efficient with lovely food well presented.
Delicious food, in a stylish, relaxed environment. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The menu offered a good range of options and was reasonably priced for the quality. A lovely special treat.
Lunch with a girlfriend. Great location and lovely ambience. Service was charming. Authentic Italian food, fantastic ingredients, beautifully cooked. We had a small problem with the meal which was quickly resolved and adjustment was made to our bill. Will definitely return.
It was great
Octopus and salt cod starters, both delicious and well presented. Mains of Mackrell and braised veal risotto were also very tasty. Staff very friendly and welcoming
a bit too overpriced, food wasn't the best quality
Lovely venue, relaxed and discreet service from friendly and very knowledgable staff. The perfect place for a relaxed special birthday.
I didn’t get around to photos, the food was too good to waste time taking them!
I loved this restaurant, which manages to combine luxury and approachability. The staff are warm and welcoming. Our food took a little while to arrive, but when it did it was outstandingly good. And their espressos are the best. Highly recommended.
Lovely meal. starters and mains were great but didn't really like the dessert. It was usually quiet but actually i enjoyed it as i was catching up with a friend. looked family friendly. would go again.
Best Italian food I've had outside of Italy. Simple pasta, so tasty.
Amazing staff, I had booked the cafe thinking it would be as it was the first time I visited and it was much more lively than than I'd expected. The staff bent over backwards to make it the best experience and we, (mum, and Italian cousins) had a great evening.
When I order dinner I expect that... a dinner. I ordered the pork belly (which did taste amazing), but when asked what it came with I was told nothing so I ordered new potatoes and cavolo nero as additional dishes. Had I not asked, I would have been very disappointed. The food was tasty, the service was good but overall I was just left a feeling flat with the experience. I expected more...
Great food and great service. We were well looked after from the moment we walked through the door. The service was extremely considerate of our theatre booking as well. The Hartnett Red wine is recommended too.
Thoroughly enjoyable. Super food, lovely service.
Loved the food and the staff were very efficient and professional. I would also say that the portions were just right allowing us to enjoy a dessert. The only downside was that the noise level was a bit high for comfort but that is so often the case with an open dining area. Overall we’d love to return.
The service was good, the pasta didn’t have enough sauce and the trout meal was rather greasy. The seating was good. Hard to tell that it was an Italian restaurant from the decor, it could have been any restaurant
An interesting menu of apparently simple dishes cooked to a high standard, served well and in a good atmosphere. Much appreciated by all in our party of 4.
Wonderful service. Very attentive waiters. Food was excellent. Not rushed even though we exceeded the 2 hours allocated. Would recommend.
We sat at the counter and had a really fabulous lunch!
A pleasant restaurant, nicely designed with plenty of space between tables. Food was not terrific, with the day special of Tuscan Fish Stew being rather thin and tasteless, with a distinct absence of fish. My wife's pasta was a good serving, but a bit sticky and starchy. The semi freddo desert was delicious, however. Service was very pleasant and professional. I would give it another try and see if the food was better.
Great venue for a business meeting with delicious food too!
Packed on a Saturday early evening, and the front-of-house team looked nervous, service was charming if a bit rushed and forgetful. Our table was upstairs, where they need to euros some money IMO, as it’s a pretty soul-less room. Still — the food was decent and they got us fed and watered in time to get to the theatre.
The food was extremely expensive for what it was.
Second visit here. Very enjoyable evening, great food and good Prosecco.
The food is a great deal better than the menu would suggest - whilst the menu wasn't immediately original or appealing the food was absolutely divine - every mouthful!
Good choice for pre-theatre dining. Great starters but the main courses are a little uninspired- for example the rigatoni needed more sausage and definitely more fennel. The pasta was cooked well but too much pasta to sauce. Lots of staff hanging around but only some of them were dashing around. Table behind our table for two were very noisy - not the fault of the restaurant but maybe the position of tables could be looked at? This might seem picky but all things considered we were a little underwhelmed.
Great food and service. Only issue not much choice for a vegetarian
Brilliant lunch! Lovely ambiance upstairs, excellent service and vfm. The hare ragu on the set menu was wonderful. The house red (Angela Hartnet Rosso) was superb.
Excellent service, attentive, but not overly fussy. Food was delicious and ambience was perfect!
Great restaurant for a pre-theatre meal. Charming and efficient service and the meal was delicious. Highly recommend.
We had a ovely meal . Interesting ingredients well cooked and presented. The upstairs room was attractive .
No question certainly one of the best choices in Covent Garden may well be the best!
Fantastic meal. Will go again and again. We live near the Covent Garden branch - an endless temptation.
Authentic Italian food and very good service. Although a bit noisy.
Always a joy; food is outstanding, service with a smile. Only issue is it can get noisy at times but that doesn't stop me going
A lovely restaurant with a good ambience. The food was great and came out in time for pretty theatre. Attentive and knowledgeable waiter explained some of the unknowns on the menu.
We were in a bit of a rush for a pre-theatre bite to eat.
The service was fast and very pleasant.
The food was very good too - a shame we couldn’t savour it more given our time constraints.
