Located on 70th Street just west of Broadway, Café Luxembourg entertains New Yorkers and celebrities alike. The full service bar is home to many regulars. The lively buzz of the dining room is inviting and intimate. The frequency of dining customers is testament to the sincere efforts by the entire Café Luxembourg staff.
The menu changes seasonally as well as offering daily specials. The classic menu dishes maintain a level of cooking on par with the city’s best restaurants. Café Luxembourg offers beautifully prepared food with professional, yet unpretentious service at reasonable prices.
Excellent. A New York classic.
Café Luxembourg has been around for decades, yet it has maintained its freshness -- the staff are wonderful, the food excellent, the ambiance perfect.
Best food- mussels and broth their were amazing- and impeccable service.
Great to be back in New York and Cafe Lux has to be our first night back in City! 👌🏻👌🏻
Crystal was so nice and made the evening special
A mixed review: kale salad, chicken soup (a special), mussels, lobster roll: all good. Fish and chips: fish hard and tasteless and so dry it couldn't be swallowed, even with lemon and tartar sauce and served cooler than room temperature. A glass of red wine was the opposite: warmer than room temperature and it, like the fish, was really unacceptable. Lincoln Center captive audience but the kitchen disappointments but not the staff which is very good.
I love meeting friends at Cafe Lux. We can talk and laugh and hear each other! The food never disappoints and the waitstaff is friendly and professional. Best option on the Upper West Side.
Great place for breakfast. Not cheap but quiet and lovely.
Contrary to popular belief, the steak frites was severely wanting
Delicious food and service. We came on a busy Sunday evening, but the service was spot on during our visit and food was delicious. We will come back!
Food costs have clearly had an impact. Dishes have evaporated into meager portions and middling quality.
Love Cafe Luxembourg!
Just too noisy, crowded in to hard to maneuver places, a bit too pricey to frequent. The service was very good, but that's not sufficient to keep returning, which we've done often, but will do so less often from now on.
The food and service were truly wonderful. The staff was very friendly and efficient. The atmosphere is low ke However, it was pretty noisy.
The only defect really was the noise level. Fortunately we were only two people for dinner so we were able to have a conversation. I believe if there were 4 people, or more, it would have been almost impossible to have any type of conversation.
Garlic sautéed spinach had too much garlic and I got sick later
This is a neighborhood gem, truly.
The staff is very attentive and knowledgeable. Everything was cooked to perfection. We will definitely come back.
Great food and service
This is one of my favorite restaurants, and as usual the food and ambience were great , but the usual attentive-without-being-intrusive service was not present. Wait staff seemed chaotic and distracted. I had a hard time gettin bread on the table and getting the check at the end of the meal. Just a bad night I presume.
My all time favorite restaurant
Treated me like a queen for my birthday!
Can’t wait to go back
Fantastic hostess and service!
Fish and chips have declined in quality over the years.
Love CL and have been going for years. We were surprised and disappointed to learn that they are no longer offering children's options. We come in several times a month with our child and this unfortunately may rule it out for us going forward. I would strongly suggest they reconsider this choice. Keeping some pasta in the back to boil off and put some olive oil or butter on it's an expensive thing to do.
One half hour before our lunch reservation, I was making my way to Café Luxembourg, when I got an email thanking me for dining there. How odd, I thought, to thank me before the fact. Maybe the folks there were extremely polite, or maybe someone had already been there and used my name to get seated in this great restaurant. When I arrived, both guesses were proved to be wrong. I asked the two women at the desk in this half-empty restaurant about their 'thank you;' They dismissed my question with French attitude and pointed me to a table.
Truth is this 'French restaurant/ brasserie' is more in it's element on NYC's UWS than in any quarter of Paris.
The 'steak frites' featured a huge, hard, tasteless hunk of beef that my mother would've proudly dropped on the table. When I returned it virtually untouched to a clueless wait staffer, another woman introduced herself as the manager and struck it from the bill. At $40 ... more like $50 after tax & tip on it ... that was a consideration I bet she has to show w some frequency. The rest of lunch was OK, and it still cost $200 for lunch for three of us after one of our mains was purged from the bill.
Café Luxembourg has to be one of the best established bistros in a part of town that has more than its fair share of them these days. Why? It beats me.
Always dependable, but so much better than just that. Convivial, with excellent service. We always leave smiling.
This is the place I want to go to for every dining or a special occasion. They make me feel at home - so, so lucky to have it in my neighborhood.
The Florentine Benedict with the potatoes was so delicious. Our other mea was just eggs, toast, and bacon so a bit less spectacular. I want to go back again for a lunch or dinner but breakfast was good.
My sister is visiting for the weekend and I had to go to my fave family restaurant in my neighborhood! The service was superb as usual and we really enjoyed our dishes. Bravo! We look fwd to coming back for your fall offerings.
Merci beaucoup pour ce repas!
Great brunch! Wonderful Bellini, good omelette and tartare, and amazing pancakes! Service was nice too
A classy neighborhood standby
Best place to sit down for breakfast on the Upper West Side!
Fun energetic French Bistro evening with friends!
We lucked out as it was the Cafe’s 36th Anniversary and we had a free cocktail! Great Halibut, Beet Salad and wonderful Sancerre.!
Helped celebrate the 36th anniversary of Cafe Luxenburgh with a free drink! That was a surprise. And the food was amazing, as usual.
Cafe Luxembourg is one of our favourite restaurants in NY, and always a joy. The service is fantastic, and the food is perfection. My one criticism is that the portion size of the grilled octopus appetiser has substantially diminished.
My sister was visiting
UWS stalwart that’s proven reliable and enjoyable particularly for lunch. The food and service can be very good to just okay as brasserie food goes. Ie: ordered cheeseburger med-well; it came without the cheese and when it came back to me, it was really overly well done. It’s a cheeseburger! Waitstaff, cook; wake-up. Things like this are not unusual, but now you know what you could expect. I still like the place for location and ambiance.
Great sea scallops with excellent vegetables. The bread has changed since my previous visit from the French bread to a mushy sort of sponge bread. Too bad. Noise level made any conversation challenging!
Service was excellent.
Positively, the best rack of lamb I've ever had. Everything else during the evening was wonderful. My party of four all agreed it was a great dinner, with fine service and a very chic ambiance without the all-too-present, incredibly loud, environment you see so often today.
Cafe Luxenburg is an upper west side treasure . The young ladies who are at reception are warm and inviting . Reservations are honored , which has become a rarity at restaurants , and there is not a 15 nor a half hour wait to be seated .
A shout out to the maitre d who recognizes you and cones over to make sure you are comfortable. He is always working , bussing tables, seating guests , smiling , interracting with his staff . He is bald and wears glasses and stands at the front desk and welcomes you . Just to be certain we are speaking of the same person
Great French bistro, but like so many others, needs more vegetarian options for those of us that like the vibe but don’t eat meat.
