My wife & I travel extensively and dine out often. We have had many outstanding meals on multiple continents. The five-course lunch at Das Marktrestaurant was one of the best meals we have had anywhere; the service matched the food. We spent a good part of our walk back to our apartment discussing the various courses, and what made the meal so outstanding. The food was innovative & extremely flavorful. Each dish played with flavor & texture. The ingredients were of the highest quality, expertly prepared, & combined in interesting ways. A risotto with the first morels of the season was just stellar. The dishes were elaborate without having a fussed-over look, & beautifully presented. We look forward to returning & trying some of the other dishes; I would recommend it to any "foodie". I enjoyed this meal much more than a five-course dinner I had at Meadowood, a three-star Michelin restaurant in Napa Valley. The service was also stellar. I do understand that in Europe people train to serve in restaurants. Overall, I find that the level of service in European restaurants is much higher than in the US. The service at Marktrestaurant was elegant, unobtrusive, efficient, & just charming. One subtle aspect was that you never heard dishes or silverware clatter when cleared. There was a quiet elegance to the way our waitress served & explained each dish. If visiting or staying in Mittenwald, book a table for your first or second night. You are likely to want to return. Although there is a menu from which individual dishes can be selected, we opted for the five-course Rolls Royce meal (69 Euros/person), and I would happily do this again. The wine list has a nice selection of German, Austrian, Italian & French wines with prices very reasonable compared to what I see in many San Francisco Bay Area restaurants. Book now! This restaurant would stand out in any European city. To find it in a charming small Bavarian town like Mittenwald makes it even more special. MoreOpenTable Diner -
