We had been so excited to go to utter on our trip to New York, however it turned out to be the worst dining experience of our time in NYC. The food was disappointing and the service was awful. We enjoyed every other dining experience in NYC we are not hard to please high maintenance people and it’s extremely rare for us to leave negative reviews
The food was amazing and our server was great!
Jackie was informative and very helpful with both food and wine choices. Great experience!
Food was fair and service bad. We had to ask for bread and then once again for butter which was surprising given the restaurants name. Moreover both our entrees were tepid.
Absolutely outstanding from every possible vantage. Full disclosure.....I am a total Alex Guarnaschelli fan girl; I love her cookbooks and love her on the Food Network so I have wanted to come to Butter for a long time. it did not disappoint, rather it exceeds my expectations, which were quite high.
The restaurant is lovely; the ambiance is hip without looking contrived. Our server, Claire was fantastic; very knowledgeable, friendly, great humor and appropriately attentive.
AND THE FOOD.......I am still thinking about how wonderful our dinner was. Every bite was delicious; the presentation was lovely; my only wish was that I could have ordered more.
I can’t wait to go back!
A great find in the heart of Manhattan ! Loved the food
Overpriced and underwhelming. Food was fine. Nothing special, and certainly not worth $200 for 2 entrees and 3 apps!
Food was tasty & amazing! Loved the service, very attentive! Laid back & chill atmosphere. Would recommend & do plan to visit in the future
Food was great as always. One of our favorite places to eat in NYC!
The food was delicious along with the service. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Gray food, great service, great for families!
From the home Parker House rolls to the two fish entrees and the beignets it was all superb!!!
We felt rushed and got the impression that our plan to have drinks and appetizers were "frowned upon" by staff - from hostesses to waiter to servers.
The food was very good and drinks quite tasty!
I had the NY Strip for one and my wife had fish. My cut of meat was really poor in quality. It was cooked properly. The dish was served with a beef "gravy" that reminded me of the type of gravy that they would pour out of a bottle at a belly-up-to-the bar establishment. It overpowered the flavor of the meat. Which, based on how bad the cut was, maybe was the reason for it's use.
My wife's fish was cooked perfectly. It was plated nicely and it was fresh. My wife said that there were no flavors that were remarkable in the dish.
For the amount of money they charge we would have been better off eating at Chik-Fil-A.
Nice to see Butter return in a new location, altho in an unexpected location like midtown! Lunch was delicious, and nice looking restaurant! Service was so-so and not that crowded...
Romantic, beautiful, amazing food (octopus is from heaven) and Elan, our server is the best!! Can't wait to go back!
Food was phenomenal!! Staff and service were excellent!!
This reservation was for a work anniversary lunch. From the butternut squash soup, salads, cheeseburgers and desserts - everything was delicious and served in a timely manner.
Lunch price fix menu is great. The sea bass was fantastic. But overall the meal was delicious. Service attentive but not pushy.
Excellent meal, very nice wine list. Appetizers were superb. The barbecued short ribs were tasty but not up to suitable temperature - warm but definitely not hot, as if they’d been held while cooking our order of fries, which were very hot but under seasoned. I suspect things got rushed in the kitchen. Overall, we were happy and would return.
Tobacco smoked double cut pork chop didn’t taste of smoke and short rib meat didn’t fall off the bone. Service was not fast at all but waiter comped is our dessert and apologized. Pork chop felt under seasoned as well; could’ve used a brine.
Such a disappointment! Very slow and indifferent service. It took so long to get our entrees my daughter had to leave after the salad course. She and I arrived early for our 5:15 Sunday reservation, ordered promptly, and by 6:25 we still did not have our entrees. The restaurant was half empty all this time; now we know why. I waited to speak to the manager who did not come to speak to me.
Appetizer and dessert were fantastic
Steak was mediocre, tons of veins in the steak. Short ribs came to the table and were barely warm.
Waiter was nice but after we placed our meal order, service was very spotty. Waiter kept apologizing for taking so long to come back to the table to take our dessert order and then again later to bring our check.
I wanted to love this restaurant but I would not rush back.
Disappointing. We had theater tickets and made that clear in the reservation and when we arrived. Our reservation was for 5:15 and we had to wait to be seated. We also ordered cold appetizers ( oysters and cold meat plate) that were very delayed. Took over 30 minutes to receive. Hard to comment on the food because I could not enjoy my entree, arrived 3min before we had to leave, only could eat a very small portion. For a restaurant right in midtown just 2 blocks from the theater District we expected that we could be accommodated.
Pre theater dining gem.
Brunch is a buffet for $40 and definitely not worth it. Drinks are NOT included, but cost $15 each. Service was inattentive and slow. There are so many better places for brunch, this is not recommended.
Excellent food kept fresh. Expect NY prices, but definitely good food to justify the cost
My husband had never been to Manhattan so, I wanted to make this a special Sunday Brunch as our final outing before we left. I am a huge Food Network fan and foodie. I was excited to try Butter as we both love Alex G on the shows we watch and knowing she is an Iron Chef we had zero skepticism that this would be a great experience. Well, maybe our expectations were too high but, it was very underwhelming. When we were seated the A/C was cranked so high that we could barely hear each other and the draft was very uncomfortable and quite cold. It was a mere 62 degrees outside. We requested that it be turned down a bit and about 10 min later it was shut off so, at least, the noise level was brought down. The menu was a Sunday Brunch Buffet at $40 per person and extra for all drinks/cocktails. The brunch wasn’t very cohesive and the offerings were boring to say the least. The featured dish of the day was sautéed spinach in balsamic - featured. Smh. Nothing in the buffet but the gnocchi Mac n Cheese was interesting and even that was runny and didn’t taste of cheese at all. We were both disappointed and will never go back the next time we visit - my husband loved NYC and wants to come back very soon. It’s too bad when a famous chef rests on their celebrity to make money and doesn’t have the time to make sure their restaurants are up to the standard they demand on tv.
Amazing experience. So glad we finally got to try it out.
So disappointed in our brunch at Butter. We were a party of 5 on 10/13 with a reservation at 11:15. We arrived a few minutes early and were told to wait. It was clear that they weren't ready with the buffet food to start seating people as everyone was waiting. We were finally seated and waited about 10 minutes at the table before a staff member greeted us by asking what kind of water we'd like. We really wanted coffee and drinks, but decided to get food since there wasn't anyone nearby to take the order. The food was good, but the french toast was cold (hadn't they just put it out?) and they were still putting out foods like the croissants. They really should have been more prepared by 11 when the restaurant was open. We finally ordered our drinks but they took a while to come. My husband was beyond annoyed as he wanted coffee to start, but that didn't happen. We had to flag down staff multiple times for more coffee and water. No one ever asked how our brunch was, or to see if we needed anything. Some of the buffet food was unmarked and I had to find someone to ask what was in the biscuit/roll as some of our party doesn't eat meat and they looked like bacon biscuits. Good food choices, but at $40 per person, we felt there should have been more options, including some bagels (to go with the plain smoked salmon) and maybe another pastry or two. We don't plan to return as the service was really awful. I certainly hope that when Chef Alex is there, the service is stepped up to match the prices.
Great selection for Sunday brunch. Service could have been a bit better- too long between server checking in... Huge fan of Chef Alex.
Came to New York and made Butter an actual destination. I left the restaurant sad and disappointed. Service was lackluster. Cold and no personality. The food took over an hour to come out and was cold and undercooked by a mile. We ordered medium minis and they said they don’t do any thing but medium or medium rare. So we ordered medium. Steak can out BLUE. Then he looked at it and didn’t apologize. Didn’t say anything g just took it back to the kitchen and came out with a cold piece of leather to replace it. By this time we had been sitting for 1.5 hours we sent it back and left. Talked to the GM and he could care less. He said looked at me like I was talking a different language. Anyhow. It made me sad as I love Alex in TV and she sold me that her food would be fantastic. Just sad
My wife and I had a wonderful experience at Butter on Friday, October 10, 2019. Our server was Jackie, we got to meet the General Manager Tony and everything was what we would expect from an Alex Guarnaschelli owned restaurant. Jackie was attentive but never overbearing. When asked, she gave honest feedback regarding our dish selections. With as many amazing sounding appetizers, cocktails and meals, you want to ensure you pick the ones that consistently get the strong and amazing reviews. Jackie helped to ensure each pick was better than the next. Our main entrees (NY Strip Steak & Pork Chop) was perfectly cooked to order. The cocktail menu was very diverse regarding alcohol base, we order 4 different drinks (a rum, vodka, bourbon and tequila base) and each one was delicious.
Then we had the opportunity to meet the GM (Tony) would takes well-deserved pride in the restaurant and what they have to offer their guests. The service is prompt, not elitist (even if a ton of the reviewers of this restaurant irrationally are), they offer an array of meal options at a price that is appropriate to the location [ie. Manhattan]. We live in Michigan and were in town for three nights, we made this restaurant a "must try" knowing we only get three dinners and we were not disappointed this was on our list. This is definitely worth a spot on your dinner itinerary when you're in town.
I had high expectations for Butter because I love watching Alex on the food network. The service was good but the food was average. The food had no finesse... More like a chain restaurant.
Girls weekend in NYC my short rib was delicious love the cozy vibe of Alex’s restaurant ❤️
Loved the ambiance at this place. Food was outstanding. We shared three items; a Brussels sprout salad, octopus and short ribs. All three were outstanding. Service was great. Highly recommend.
Birthday dinner. Not happy with it
Prices of a fancy restaurant but service was not on par. They don't think ab the little things that Maki g exquisite dining experience.
Food was good but service was exceptionally slow for a restaurant that gives you a 1.5 time slot.
Amazing experience from start to finish. Food, wine and ambience was perfect. Attended for my wife’s birthday and they brought complimentary Prosecco. Our server, Visar, was simply the best. Provided outstanding, top-notch service that was perfect.
The food was incredible and the volume level wasn't too noisy for lunch hour.
