Eh. The atmosphere is cool but doesn't seem to match the menu or food presentation. Couldn't figure out what they are going for in there... Menu very limited and food just fine. Not great, not bad, just fine. Service was also just fine. Prices too high for what it is. Probably wouldn't go back.
Fantastic from beginning to end. The waiter was very attentive and the food was delicious.
I cannot believe it wasn’t packed! A gourmet spread for $40 is rare in New York. The ambience was very earthy and relaxing. Best brunch in a long time.
Amazing dinner with my daughters this past Saturday night. We tried most of the hot appetizers with the mac and cheese gnocchi being my personal favorite. Our meal selections capped the delicious dinner experience.
The Mac n cheese gnocchi is delicious! Like little pillows of potato pasta. The restaurant was dead though! Not busy at all on a Friday night. We were confused by that but ended up having a drink and going somewhere that felt more lively for dinner. We were so sad about that!
Everything about our visit to Butter was excellent. The service was excellent and the food surpassed my expectations which were so high (this is Iron Chef Alex’s restaurant). Wish we had one in Miami!
The food and service were great, but it was so hot in the restaurant that one of my clients and I had to fan ourselves with the cocktail menu. The heat put a damper on the meal, but a good time was had overall.
We had an early reservation for four at 5pm - and we were seated within a few minutes of our arrival. The cavatappi pasta w/spicy lamb sausage appetizer was to die for.
According to our friend, who is quite a steak lover, the New York strip steak may have been the best steak he had ever eaten. He asked for his steak "Pittsburgh rare" and he said it was cooked to perfection. The branzino was absolutely delicious on a bed of spinach and a lemony butter sauce. The service was attentive, but not overbearing. The only slight negative to the evening was that the restaurant was very warm, which made it somewhat uncomfortable. We would definitely visit Butter again!
Good meal and service. Music was unnecessary. The restaurant was already loud due to all the patrons. There was no need for music to be played in addition. At times, it was hard to hear people around the table.
Had a great time, a wonderful birthday celebration. The food was amazing.
It was fist visit for us, my friend and I really enjoyed lunch there. Receptionist, Daniella is excellent!
The coffee was charged twice per each person (we didn’t know that), 4 coffee on the receipt.
Compare to Cafe Boulud and 21 club it was not better honestly ( service) but we will come back more often because the library ( currently Walt Whitman exhibition) and Bryant Park near.
The soup and salad was really good.
The atmosphere is modern and parking garage on 44th St.
Plan to go again in August.
Will Be back !! Food incredible - service impeccable
As a big Alex Guarnaschelli fan I had high hopes for Butter and I was not disappointed. It’s a super cool restaurant and the food was amazing. We had the pork chop, beef short rib and New York strip which were all delicious. The Mac and cheese gnocchi was also a highlight. The staff were friendly and there was a great atmosphere. It is easy to find and not too far out of the way either. It was pricier than our usual dinners but was worth every cent! Definitely recommend!
Our waitress was just wonderful. She was super chill and fun. She made great recommendations and really enjoyed the overall experience.
Also the bread and butter before the meal, really lives up to the name. Soooo yummy!
The Monday night steak and wine special is one of the best values in the city. Creative steak presentation and half price bottle of a great high end Cabernet. Their specialty cocktails are worth starting the night off with. Service is always solid but ours was exceptionally great this past time.
My vegetarian wife and I split the gnocchi Mac and Cheese and the mushroom "wedge salad" appetizer to start. Best Mac and cheese every -- amazingly soft and rich. Mushroom dish had several different types cooked differently, and really did a good job imitating lettuce and bacon. Her cauliflower steak was great. I was deciding between the NY strip and the chicken; they were out of the strip so that made my choice easy, unfortunately. A slightly overdone and dry chicken breast, but at least it had a wonderfully pan-seared coating on it, and I got a few bites of it. But the big giant pile of broccoli rabe was dumped on top of the crispy top so that all got soggy. Would not recommend the chicken dish to anyone, but everything else was great.
What a special, yet casual place for an anniversary dinner! Loved everything from start to finish, we will be coming back again. Food was cooked perfectly, staff was just attentive enough so we could really enjoy our time together, and the atmosphere was exactly what we were hoping for. We had high expectations coming in and they were met with ease.
The whole experience was amazing. The bartender Patricia was wonderful, as was our waitress Victoria. The food was truly amazing.
We were sat at a really nice table and the food was amazing!!!
Food was not exceptional. Nothing delicate about the dishes. Salad was average and entrees were heavy with oil.
Food was perfection! People that are working there not so much- they need a refresher course in service 101. Our waiter was dreadful.
Hang it up on the strawberry & rhubarb tart , it’s terrible.
Great food. The steak tartare and the peanut butter cup dessert were phenomenal. Service was great.
This is large cavernous space which is not unattractive. The menu is quite limited but the food is good and well prepared and served. Service is good and in total it was a good experience and it is very convenient for the theater district which makes it a good pre-show destination. I would go again.
Love everything about Butter. Our waitress, Rachel was an all star. Never a problem when dining.
Great for dates and impressing out of town friends.
Cuisine was average, was expecting something more creative and appealing.
Had poor experience with reception. We were asked to not enter with the stroller (we specified in our reservation we had an infant in the stroller) and were not offered high chair but to put our son on the table..
Ambient was very nice and stylish.
The service while excellent it took a long time to get our food - almost 2 hours. The butter burger was cooked right. However the dessert was so dry we could only eat one bite. We were so disappointed in Butter as my son wants to be a chef in NYC we thought we would try a lot of different restaurants over the week we are in the city. The atmosphere was great as was the service. Food was not good and not worth the $75 bill for lunch.
The food and the service were exceptional. The soup had an amazingly deep flavor. However, I might have to disagree with Alex, it was more like a bisque with shrimp than a chowder. Nonetheless, I could have eaten two bowls.
Very good overall night
I highly recommend this elegant pre-theater dinner gem. The entire experience from the ambiance to the service to the food to the timeliness was lovely.
Food was outstanding. Waiter was lackluster. Almost as if he was doing us a favor. No one smiled from the front desk to the waiter. Only the bus boys smiled. That is unfortunate. Makes you feel like you do not want to be there or do not belong there.
The ambiance was a combination of modern and rustic that was really cool. The service was great. The food was exceptional. The gnocchi mac & cheese was amazingly decadent and delicious. I got the steak special and it was probably the best steak I've ever had. It was well-seasoned and perfectly cooked. My friend got the strip steak and loved it. We had the raspberry beignets for dessert. They were so light and yet packed with flavor...a perfect end for a great meal. If I'm in NYC again, I'll definitely be back!
The server was not happy to be there. Never asked how our food was or if we needed anything. The busboys (except for one latino busboy, he was a keeper) were just standing around. They never filled our water or cleared our plates. They got yelled at by the waiter when our food was ready and our table was not cleared. Not a good experience. Food was way too acidic and rib eye steak sauce was horrible. Sticky molasses. Ruined the steak. We should have sent it back.
Food was good but not outstanding. Portions were very large for both starters and mains. We had wine by the glass and were impressed by the quality of the wine available this way. All the food was clearly hot and freshly prepared but neither I nor my dinner companion were particularly blown away by any of the flavours. Meat was missing a sear and rhubarb was absent from the strawberry rhubarb lemon tart. Price was OK for midtown Manhattan and the ambiance was very nice - we were not rushed through the meal at all and it was easy to hold a conversation.
Great food....great menu....great service. Background music too loud and kind of funky for a fine restaurant. Shut it off. Expensive, but no worse than most good restaurants in NY. Overall recommend highly
The food was absolutely excellent! Try the "Mac and Cheese Gnocchi" for an appetizer...
Our server was amazing: great personality, lots of ideas about food and wine, great recommendations, and extremely friendly. We had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend Butter for any occasion.
Way overpriced for the quality and quantity of food. Service was pleasant but mostly indifferent. Hard to believe AG would approve
Food and cocktails were excellent, service was less so. I felt a bit ignored; I don't like a server who hovers, but our server that night just disappeared for a while. The quickest response we got to a request was when we asked the check to be split.
Amazing food! I had the strip steak and it was tender and delicious. The watermelon cocktail was also delicious. The service was excellent.
Butter was FABULOUS! The ambiance is amazing - the booths insulate sound so my friend and I could hear each other speak without straining despite the restaurant being full of other diners around us (a true rarity for NY). It's got great lighting, it's spacious, and full of beautiful dark wood. So amazing. Next, the food was incredible! The gnocchi mac is to die for, the steak was so tender and perfect, even the drinks were creative and tasty. I can't say enough good things about it. It's great for casual dining, romantic date, or business meeting. Go go go! I will be back.
Food was fairly tasty but the presentation was very disappointing. The short ribs portion was ridiculously small for $45.
The Lafayette location was far more appealing than the mid town space.
Wouldn’t go back.
