What Insiders Are Saying
Brindille is an upscale French restaurant in River North.
Arrival and greeting: Great. Ordered wine for aperitive and wine for dinner great and fast. Placed order: no problem. Quality and innovation of dishes: Great. Service: great and enthusiastically. Wait time to get dishes: dismal; 20 to 30+ minutes wait time. I don't want the dishes to come one after the other but that wait time was excessive. Somewhere, something needs to be fixed.
It’s a fine dining restaurant. Comfortable seatings were equipped with exquisite tablewear and shiny utensils. The food is very good. The dish I had was the duck breast. It’s better than the duck breast from the NOMI Kitchen at Park Hyatt. It’s also better than the duck breast from Margeaux Brasserie at Waldorf Astoria. Most of the duck dishes involved fruity sauce. People add fruit to the sauce, and put some puree (usually potato) and a few green leaves to the dish and that was it. Here at Brindle, in addition to the fruity sauce, they used the fruit (peaches) to make a tarte tatin to go with the dish rather than plain old veggie puree. It is this kind of extra work that elevates the whole dish and make it better than everybody else’. I also like the idea of using leek to go with duck meat. Every element in this dish is delicious. I wasn’t gonna order this dish. But Careen recommended it so I went along with it. And I’m so glad that I did. She makes some very good recommendations. The services were impeccable. It was a busy Saturday night. My reservation was for one person, yet the host was kind enough to give me a table instead of sending me straight to the bar. I really appreciated that. It was a very nice dining experience in every aspect (food, desert, service, the venue, etc.)
Brindille is a lovely restaurant will a subtle, minimalist but comfortable decor, and lots of grey tones. The menu has many appealing options, all fairly expensive. They brought a delicious amuse bouche of potato gourgettes that were delicious, and after a long wait, wonderful rolls (one for each of us.) I ordered the Dover sole meuniere, top recommended by the server (who perhaps didn't appreciate our not ordering appetizers and only one alcoholic drink and although pleasant was not attentive.) My husband had the steak frites. When I went to eat the sole I couldn't cut it with a fork, which was bizarre, and when I took a bite it was rubbery. I sent it back and the server returned quite abashed confirming that the chef agreed that something was wrong with my fish, and they remade it. This meant that my husband ate his steak while I watched, and I ate my fish when he was done. Not ideal, especially at those prices. When the fish was remade my first bite was so salty I considered sending it back again. As it turned out, it was just that one end that must have been over salted and the rest was ok, but since this was the most expensive item on the menu, it deserved special care especially being remade, so I was not overly impressed with the experience. My husband's steak was very good but not fabulous, and the "frites" were a bit too crispy and not exceptional. They did give us a free dessert as compensation, and it was a pleasant strawberry dessert that everyone was ordering. Nice but nothing to drool over. All in all I would probably give them a second chance, but they struck out on our first visit. We had eaten at NAHA in the past, and were looking forward to celebrating our anniversary at this restaurant. My husband was sorry we didn't go back to Les Nomades.
One of the best restaurants in Chicago I’ve been to in years!
Overall - an excellent dining experience.
Refined and tasty food, great wines, attentive service and a nice ambience.
We had a great evening.
Wonderful from start to finish.
Delightful meal. Reminded me of the owners other restaurant, Naha. Small, quiet room. Thoughtful service, attractive presentation of the 3 courses.
The halibut was tender and perfectly cooked. I’ll be back, sorry I hadn’t dined here since it opened.
This the second time I’ve dined at Brindille. Second straight nearly perfect experience. Corinne took care of us. I got stuck in traffic heading into city and missed reservation time. Called to let them know. When we did arrive two nice glasses of champagne awaited. Just go help us relax!!! Food and wine pairings impeccable. Soft shell crap. Foi gras. Noodles. Then duck for the main. Just delicious. Service second to none.
The restaurant is one open space so noise levels can be high if all the tables are occupied. Food is above average (the pork belly dish was very good) but the lighting can be better so we can see our food. Service was exceptional. Ambience was pleasant.
I took my girlfriend from Dallas to this restaurant and she obviously had a long drive to get to this restaurant with me but in the end it was worth the trip. Being the youngest couple in there by about 20 years initially threw me off (not many 21 year olds appreciate some good wine and good food I guess), but after settling in and talking to our waitress it was an incredible experience. Simply exquisite food that is worth the purchase, but let it be known that as a first generation American-Italian I truly struggled to enjoy the cheeses! This is totally just a difference in cultures that I have come to accept will happen. I am assured that someone else will find them much more appetizing than they were to me! I would come back anytime (if my pocketbook allows me).
Generally positive experience. Nothing stand-out in the menu, ambiance or service.
Service and food amazing
Superb! Food was delicious! Evan gave us the best recommendations! Thank you!
Out meal was exceptional. The best meal I have ever had in Chicago.
Brindille was the perfect place to take 4 of my clients (all of us out of town from Houston) for dinner. We all loved the atmosphere, food and Coreen, our wait person. I cannot say one negative thing about the entire evening. Chef Mike came out to see how the food and evening were going and he could not have been more cordial and fun to talk with. Chicago is a wonderful city and very lucky to have Brindille. I have already recommended Brindille to friends of mine from Chicago.
Dover sole was everything it was supposed to be. The quail was also very good. The service was top notch with great wine recommendations. One of the top French restaurants in Chicago.
Sensational in every way!!
Food was exceptional except entrees were lukewarm to cold. Service was excellent.
Best foie gras in the city!
This meal was a top 3 experience in my life. Everything was so perfect - the flavors, the portions, the presentation, the ambiance and the service. What a perfect 10 and a great way to celebrate our 10 year anniversary.
Staff went above and beyond. Our server was phenomenal! Keep up then great work! That’s for assisting us and allowing it to be “our party.” A brief check in from the chef was unexpected and loved. Add to that, a complimentary dessert with decorated plate in honor of our special occasion and we felt really appreciated. Small and quaint, which we loved. Thank you to everyone for making it a great night!
Service was excellent, food was wonderful. Dover sole was the winner of the meals for our group of 3. I was an expecting mother and included a note on the reservation, and I received a special mocktail which was a touching surprise.
I usually don’t give 5 stars, but this earned it. Food was excellent to sublime. But, the service was impeccable with a superbly knowledgeable server who assisted in the superb execution of the meal. The combination of the food with service made this a memorable meal.
Superb and outstanding. Worth it!!
My husband, daughter and I really enjoyed Brindille. We had great service at all times, especially from our server Carina who was great. The fodd was very good, the only thing my daughter did not enjoy so much were the oysters that were prepared with grapefruit, but the other plates were great inlcuding the spirng salad, halibut, duck breast and scallops. dessert was delicious as well.
The restaurant is very tastefully decorated and the ambiance is very nice. When we went it was 3/4 full and the noise level was fine.
We are really hoping ot go back soon. I would recommend it.
Did tasting menu. Eight courses. One of the best meals I’ve ever had. Highly recommend. We will be back regularly.
We had heard amazing things about Brindille from several people. I truly believe we just happened to be there on an off night. The service was terribly slow and as I looked around the restaurant it seemed that everyone was waiting for food. I knew upfront that it was a very expensive restaurant but the food was not to worth the cost.
wonderful, excellent food
This restaurant is truly a Chicago gem. The five course tasting menu was exceptional. Great wine, great food
and great service. Brindille knows how to treat their guests
Long wait between salad & entre
Was not a French restaurant as said.
Phenomenal meal. We did the five-course tasting menu and everything we had was amazing-especially the oyster and sole.
Wonderful menu and beautifully presented dishes. Took one hour to get the first course and then everything flowed very smoothly. A great overall culinary experience.
The chef, is one of the best in Chicago and probably in the top tier in the United States. To eat her food is an extraordinary experience for your taste buds.
Outstanding. Gem. Exceptional service.
I am prejudiced about Brindille, and anything Carrie or Michael Nahabedian do in the restaurant world. Carrie's skill as a chef is legendary, certainly well known in this country and recognized by the James Beard Foundation. Michael's business acumen, and aplomb as a restauranteur, helped put Chicago on the "foodie" map. Yet, most importantly, their warmth, love for family, good food, and happy times reverberates through every restaurant they open.
Brindille is a classic French restaurant, that just happens to be in Chicago. We were just in Paris for a week, and Brindille would be comfortable as a Michelin starred dining destination, sitting on a block in the sixth, seventh, eighth, sixteenth, or seventeenth arrondissements.
As River North changes, overtaken by the hordes of drunken young people, looking for another beer, margarita and fish taco, Brindille sits on Clark Street as a beacon of fine dining. The patrons of Brindille know what Carrie and Michael offer; great food, elegant surroundings, and a dining refuge. Chicago is lucky to have Brindille. Go and discover what fine dining is all about. This is grown up elegance.
Very enjoyable evening for my husband’s birthday. Food was delicious and presentations beautiful. We had eaten at NaHa a few times several years ago and were excited to try Brindille.. it did not dissapoint
Hidden gem in the heart of Chicago. Great food with a touch of flare and Panache.
Second experience here and really special. Menu and wine list are top notch. Engaging staff that shares the passion. I dont write reviews but it was that good.
Love the atmosphere, great attention to food, excellent wine. Don’t miss this place! Excellent service as well🍾
Food, service, and ambiance were all fabulous! Can’t wait to return !
