Went for 35th anniversary dinner. Food was delicious, but entree was served literally 15 seconds after the salads. Very odd. Waiter had to be asked for silverware before entree. Jawboning by owner who came by to chat was not what we were expecting or really wanted. Overall experience was a disappointment for what we had anticipated based on this restaurant's undeserved reputation and high prices.

Great meal. Reasonable wine list for a steak house- wine list is Cab heavy, but there are decent bottles under $100. Service was excellent- prompt but not in your face. Great ambience in a nice location. Highly recommended.

We visited Bookbinder’s for our 9 year anniversary. For this special occasion, they tailored our menu to include a personal shout out for us and provided a complimentary toast of champagne at the end of our meal. The owner came by to check on our meal and engage in light conversation. We were able to get the rare picture of just the two of us in front of the wine case with perfect lighting as a little “extra” before we left. Service was great, food was delicious, and the ambience was beautiful. It really felt like a special experience. Highly recommend!

I celebrated my 27th birthday here! Everything was OUTSTANDING from the food, our waiter (Tim), and the fun group photos at the end! They provided a custom menu that said Happy Birthday! The owner of the restaurant came out to personally greet us. He even gave my young nephews and older brother (40+) some hot wheels cars to keep them entertained during dinner! Let's just say, I think my oldest brother was the most excited. Everyone was so nice! I'm really glad I chose Bookbinders to celebrate my special occasion. Get the lobster Mac and crab cakes :)

Waiter over charged credit card after the meal. He then recharged the correct amount. Funds of $111 are tired up on a hold until the credit comes back to the card. That could take days to credit money back and I really can not afford $111 pending- an error that was not my fault !!!

Such a charming and romantic restaurant tucked away in downtown Richmond in a converted tabacco factory! The cuisine was superb and service impeccable! I opted for the bone-in cowboy ribeye with fromage paired with a glass of Daou Paso Robles cabernet sauvignon...absolutely heavenly! I finished with the dark chocolate pate with berries and a cup of coffee. From start to finish, the service was fantastic; thank you Ryan! I look forward to returning to Richmond in order to explore more of the menu at this restaurant!

Reservations were at 4:00. We were there a few minutes before and told by owner that they would open soon. Another couple arrive shortly after and he (the owner) told one of the workers that was cleaning the door to let us in because it was hot outside. To our surprise, another family was already allowed to go in the lobby WITHOUT having to wait outside at all! When they opened the doors to receive guest, I was the the first give my name. I actually opened the lobby door and advised the other guest to come in. The hostess received them, took their name and number of guest. She then proceeded to call and have seated 4 other families before I had to bring to her attention my name was first on the list! Our waiter was not very attentive and or friendly. Took too long to bring our bill! Food was excellent, but when we got home, we both suffered stomach craps and discomfort. We also witnessed another older couple has their waitress dropped a dish of raw oysters on their table. They had to be moved to another table. Not once did anyone from management come to offer an apology. We dine at Bookbinders often as it is one of our favorite restaurants. We plan to return hoping that these problems will not occur again. We have referred others to Bookbinder's, but will not again until we return and experience better service.

Our server Ben was organized and expedient. I went to bookbinders knowing the food was pricey. Our meal was great, but I don’t think the cost is justified? Excellent ambiance. Cocktails amazing!

We love going to Bookbinder’s for special occasions. It’s always a lovely experience. I had the crab cake, but I would rate it average. My husband had the special, rockfish and it was superb. The settings is so relaxing and beautiful. I would say for anyone that hasn’t been you should try this restaurant.

If you have a birthday /anniversary, they print a personal message on the menu. The staff was so polite. The food was worth the price. We shared an entree and a few sides. The garden area is a lovely place to choose if you go not feel comfortable indoors. Charming and delicious!
