Good wine selection and some healthy brunch entrees.
One of the best Sunday Brunches. Highly recommend
It was my fiancé and I’s first time trying this restaurant and it was AMAZING!! The food tasted so fresh and it was cooked to perfection.
Food was spotty. Some dishes good others not so much. Pretty place. Service fair.
Quaint place with an incredible vibe and menu. Drinks are delicious and staff is friendly
The food was good, but really rich and heavy.
I am vegetarian. While the menu on website had a vegetarian option, the actual menu the night we went had no vegetarian entree.
Great meal. Great service . I’ll be back!
Walked by this place a million times, glad I finally went in. Very cosy and cute, feels like you’re in a lovely southern kitchen. Chicken and waffles was nothing too fancy, but oh man the chicken was delicious. It’s truly authentic buttermilk, southern fried chicken. Waffles were a great consistency, crispy and fluffy combo. We also got the frittata (just okay - a bit dry) and cornbread (very good). Cocktails were lovely, nothing out of this world though.
All in all, would definitely go again. Service and ambiance was the cherry on top. Want to try their dinner, but it looks a bit pricey. we may just stick with their (reasonably priced) brunch.
I've gone twice now and it's absolutely lovely! It's energetic and classy, with tasteful foods (literally not one bad menu item!). Would recommend over and over again.
The decor at the blue door is adorable and upscale. Our service was great and the food was just as you would expect. No detail was too small to be overlooked. We ordered the devil eggs (yum), the waffle with apple butter and the fried chicken Benedict. We would definitely go back!
Great service. Good food
Fantastic food and atmosphere - our three kids shocked us by each eating their entire burger (a double decker at that!)
I was looking for a quiet place to take my father who was visiting Chicago--Not only was Blue Door quiet, it was an unforgettable dining experience. From start to finish, each plate revealed an attentiveness to detail that was delightful. Chef Art Smith is sharing his heart and home in abundance with every dish he carefully develops. Bravo!
Food was great.. wonderful and charming atmosphere. Only compliant was service was slow, but they were very apologetic. One waiter and he did not see us at first when we were seated. I am sure it was just an oversight and not the norm. We will definitely go back on future trips to Chicago.
The mere was valet parking for $15 but there were was also parking along the street, $8 for two hours. The ambiance was warm and inviting, like the southern living. Both inside and outside seating was available. Service was quick. The menu was a little different from online but it didn’t impact my experience. I had a one the most delicious crab cakes I’ve had for an appetizer. It was perfectly seasoned with crab forward, not weighed down with breading and it came out rather quickly. For my entree I ordered Art’s famous buttermilk fried chicken and it delivered as promised. The crispy skin and juicy meat (three pieces) were both appropriately seasoned. The potatoes were a good accompany. I also ordered macaroni and cheese, which was good but I prefer a milder cheese than cheddar, though my dinner guest raved about it and cornbread that was excellent. The cornbread obviously had been prepared in a cast iron skillet evidenced by its crispy crust. It was served with homemade butter, almonds and blackberries. My colleague ordered the pork shoulder with with collard greens. She was stepping out of her comfort zone, as I being from the south often tease her for lack of knowledge of greens. Her excitement about her meal grew with each bite. The pork was juicy and the greens seasoned with pork. That coupled with the great choice of music playing lowly and the southern decor had her loving her experience.
As always, delicious brunch. I always bring out of towners here and we always have a great experience.
Charming location. Outdoor garden is lovely. Food was good but very slow service and 2 of 4 meals were lukewarm.
Service was poor. Dessert never came after it was ordered; had to go seek out the wait staff to get the check so we would not miss our theater time.
Bees in auto area.
We had a great brunch sitting in the patio. It was a little chilly but they had ample space heaters so it was lovely. Our server Tim was attentive and gave us great service. He had great recommendations and answered all our questions we had about the menu. We brought our two small kids and sitting in the outside patio was perfect for them. The fried chicken and waffles were so good and the rosemary maple syrup is extra sticky and so delicious.
Love this place! Food is great and outdoor space is superb! Service is always impeccable @
Blue Door Kitchen and Garden was recommended to me but we were disappointed. We got one beverage (a water and a soda) and no refills came. The soda was asked for a refill specifically when our food came and that was additional (even though these were small glasses) and a refill on water never came. Food was delicious and the place is cute, but everything else was sub-par.
Great food and great ambiance! The courtyard was beautiful and a great setting, but unfortunately some of our party was sensitive to the cigar smoke from the cigar bar next door. The restaurant was very accommodative and moved us indoors and we had a great meal.
Charming outdoor setting and wonderful staff. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and made great recommendations. Highly recommend!!
One of my go-to neighborhood spots... Usually 5-star across the board, but this time the service at the bar was notably off. We had to wait 15-20 min for our table to be ready so we sat down expecting to have a glass of wine... bartender did not acknowledge us and proceeded to fill table orders for 10 minutes straight. Note even a, "Hey, I'm really busy, will get to you in a second..." acknowledgement. Sad.
It was my second dinner at Blue Door Kitchen the setting is lovely and the food is quite tasty. We ate in the garden on second visit, which was nice, but I prefer the cozy, romantic ambience inside. I definitely recommend this restaurant.
Art knows his fried chicken. The best we’ve ever had. Great sprout & kale salad, too.
The V&Ts were yummy as well.
Our lunch was very disappointing as the food was rather mediocre and the service was not what we expected. We have dined at Blue Door Kitchen for both lunch and dinner several times and always have enjoyed the food and service. This time my soup order was forgotten and brought with what I ordered as an entree. The crab cake was thin and not particularly tasty. My husband thought his hamburger was not up to the quality he has experienced in the past.
We were disappointed.
Our favorite brunch in Chicago. Can't go wrong with chicken and waffles or deviled eggs.
What a lovely place to have brunch! The ambiance on the patio and the service were outstanding. Food was very good -- though not exceptional.
Cute interior. It was raining so we didn’t get to see the patio I’ve read so much about. The scallops were great. Wished the salmon had been presented with a more substantial side or veggie. Uninspiring dessert menu
First time here, food was good. Service was subpar at best. Very inattentive. Never checked on us when we got our food, had to ask for coffee then forgot to bring. Then we asked again about them , they were brought after we were done with our dessert. Overall it felt like she just couldn’t be bothered with us. Probably won’t go back, too many other great restaurants in the city.
Very delicious fried chicken!!
we sat outside on the patio. food was delicious and wonderful ambiance. will definitely go again.
Food was great. Outdoor space was lovely. Service was poor and slow. . Our waiter was not attentive and spoke in a whisper. We could barely hear what she said. Not good for a person in the hospitality industry!
If you are looking for authentic Southern cuisine, this is not the place to go. Also, don’t be fooled by the plural of Crab Cakes....you get one.
Great meeting and eating with the soon mother of bride and mother of the groom! Always delish!
Friendly service, beautiful ambiance, and delicious food. No critiques here!
This restaurant literally just serves heavy and sweet. The biscuit and the toast was griddled in butter. It made me sick. The mimosa and the lemonade were just sugar. It was brunch time and there was a table of 10 next to us that were howling laughing the whole time. On top of that it’s expensive for what you get. I left sick and out 70 dollars with my ears ringing.
The Blue Door never disappoints! The food is absolutely delicious and well presented. The ambiance on the patio is wonderful, one of my favorite places to eat!
