Blue Door Kitchen & Garden
Experience a chef-driven menu featuring everything from pierogis and market fresh salads, to Chef Art Smith’s famous buttermilk fried chicken. Walk-ins are always encouraged. Be sure to join us during the warmer weather months when the beautiful outdoor patio is open. While visiting, be sure to enjoy one of Blue Door Kitchen’s garden-to-glass cocktails, local beers or perfectly paired wines from our extensive list.
biscuits, sausage gravy
rutabaga latkes, brussels sprouts, crme fraiche, apple
celery, radish, new bay seasoning, served on red hen multigrain
Staff was friendly and accommodating! We’ll definitely go back. The deviled eggs were splendidly scrumptious.
Blue door went above and beyond to make me and my guest comfortable (especially during this time!!) our servers were kind and gracious. The food was absolutely delicious and hot when coming to our table. Cannot thank this bunch enough
Very cute place
Cute place, good prices, our waiter switched out like three times but still nice
Overall very good! The food and beverages were balanced and presented nicely. Service from our first server was okay but then we had Max who was informative with great recommendations
Excellent service. It’s apparent why this is a Michelin restaurant.
Wonderful meal out on the patio - we thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance as well as the food. The cocktails were also quite tasty! We'll definitely be back!
We reserved a table specifically outside
The reservation was for outdoor seating at 7. We arrived early but were told they had no outside seating to match my reservation unless I waited 20-30 minutes. I could sit indoors near the open door (where people were coming in and going out, many without masks, I later found. I decided to do this because no where else was going to have a table either on a Saturday night at 7. That was pure bait and switch. Then at least two employees, including our server, wore their masks under their noses. Normally for the food and ambiance I would recommend this place but not at this time.
Great food and service. They followed all of the social distancing guidelines.
Fried chicken and waffles were great but the bacon omelette was just ok didn’t have much flavor and was served with a wilted salad that wasn’t very appetizing. Drinks were pretty good just a little expensive
Upscale southern hospitality. Elegant yet relaxed. Make sure to order some cornbread!
The overall experience was good. What was unfortunate was waiting extra time after showing up on time for our reservation and then being sat and a makeshift table with barely an umbrella to cover us from the sun. If there wasn’t going to be an appropriate table available I don’t think the reservation should’ve existed. We might as well had been walk in guests.
The staff was super friendly and loved the outdoor seating. The food was better than I expected. I will definitely go back there again.
Love the garden and the food but delivery of food VERY slow. Server not to blame. She was fine.
When we arrived, we noticed that there were 2 tables on the street in front of the restaurant, and of course, we ended up being seated at one of them. Totally disappointed, since the courtyard has such a better ambiance...just kinda set the let-down tone of the whole meal for me. Due to the virus, drink and food menu seemed limited. Cocktail was delicious, although deviled eggs lacked flavor. Went with the burger and half salad--salad was average, but the burger was amazingly delicious! Our waiter, Felix, was friendly and efficient, a pleasure to talk to. Would love to return after COVID, but specify NOT to have street seating!
Disappointing experience. Many great places in Chicago. Enjoy and visit another!
Wonderful evening on the patio! We had a delightful dinner with friends.
We celebrated Father’s Day brunch. It was wonderful!
Waited 30 minutes for a table
Everything was great!
Great service and enough time to chat have drinks and eat!
A first lunch out since we are allowed to eat in a restaurant!
Outside dining on a sunny day.
Nothing to do.
BLT Sandwhich was mushy.
Chicken fried sandwhich was just ok.
Deviled eggs- C+
Grapefruit mimosa B
Service - fine
Ambieance- outside Chicago during Covid B+
Me: “we have a reservation for lunch at eleven”
Them: “it’s 10:58. We don’t start seating til we open at 11:00”.
Me: “would you like us to stand here for two minutes while we stare at each other?”
Don’t get me wrong, it was fine. I walked by their place 50 times over the last couple years. Everyone is struggling in the business/ restaraunt world everywhere, and Chicago isn’t different.
But, from the hostess to the food to the finish with seating for 30 and 8 seated guests, here is your opportunity to hit a home run.
Show me what you got.
If you were an IPO today, nobody would pay top dollar for your stock offering.
Sorry. Despite living 2 blocks away, probably won’t come back.
Blue Door Kitchen is consistently delicious, with friendly service and a great patio atmosphere. Once it warms up a bit in the city, it will be even more delightful.
Magnificent food. Service and drinks are still getting their legs underneath them after covid-19. Would recommend this place for the food alone though!
Wow. This restaurant was just fantastic. The ambiance was beautiful and despite the limited menu (due to the recent reopening after COVID) there were so many delicious options to chose from. Every single dish was delicious and the drinks were even better. Do not miss the fried chicken, it was the best I’ve ever had. Would recommend to anyone visiting Chicago and can’t wait to take my family here!
Lovely ladies lunch
Food was unremarkable, but the service and the outdoor patio were just great.
Blue Door has a wonderful outdoor patio. It is completely enclosed by a fence so it is private and quiet. Lovely!
Covid-19 is stressful and we want to show our support for one of my local restaurants since harsh time is coming. We made a reservation for noon at Blue Door and showed on time. First, they have asked us to wait for couple of minutes to clean a table. However, after that table is cleaned and it is after 12 already, they still ask us to wait – it turned out they want us to wait for another table with 2 people are still there when there are 2 empty tables. They say that the couple in the table should leave soon which they actually did not leave until almost 12:30pm. I do not blame them since Blue Door does not have a table time policy. However, I cannot believe they do not want to sit us since they say they want to save the table for 4 people when the table is already small. We finally insist to sit since we made a reservation. Of course, if we are going to wait for that couple, we probably won’t have a table until 12:30pm when they have empty tables!!! I cannot believe this. In this time, people want to eat and lave and not to mention you have tables! I would NOT recommend this place. Also since we sat very close to the kitchen, we noticed that their people DO NOT even wear gloves when they put food on the plates – talking about basic hygienic, not even in this time. The manager and the hostess have most snobbish attitude, not to mention lacking basic common sense. Now, I ate there and I wish I had not. For your safety, please do not go there!
Nice setting for a party of 2-4. I had the fried chicken which was delicious. I look forward to a return visit, to take advantage of the outdoor garden!
We sat 2nd floor...very nice place
These open table reviews are too long in the tooth
Food and wine were fine. Service was somewhat sketchy, considering only one other table was occupied.
Great service from Max......nice and quiet upstairs.
Always a great choice for an awesome meal in a lovely setting.
Our visit with first time guests was disappointing. Sadly, the food did not match up to our much earlier, fond memories of the restaurant. The Biscuits and Gravy were more like a bowl of mush with accompanying eggs ordered a "over easy", served overcooked/poached! My wife's Benedict was not served as ordered and sent back. And, the extra order of "not to be missed" Chicken & Waffles were far from the spectacular feature touted on the menu! I don't believe that Art Smith would approve!
Burger was insanely good! Really enjoyed the meal.
Great spot. Food very good. Service was a bit bumpy and could have been better.
