Blue Cow kitchen & bar
Super find before the Disney Concert Hall performance. Super meal and wonderful warm service and atmosphere. I struggled to find a place that wouldn't blow the budget and within walking distance - Blue Cow ticked both boxes. We had a great meal ('Staff Tony's Pasta') and a lovely bottle of Mer Soleil. I highly recommend. Thanks Blue Cow!!
Great spot to sit outside and have a yummy bite. Portions are quite big on the salads. Service was excellent.
Skimpy on the protein in the salads and really loud at lunch!
Great food in a well-decorated setting with good ambiance, well-prepared cocktails, and a variety of options that accommodated dietary restrictions.
Kitchen and service was slow, but food was tasty.
Great service, delicious food, delicious drinks. Off the street so it’s not too loud for dinner. In a food court-type area, so may be noisier during the day (other restaurants were closed for dinner).
Very pleasant experience all around if you’re looking for a casual dining experience. I’ll be going back.
Can't be downtown without having their brussel sprouts, elote pizza and buttermilk cake!
Blue Cow was a great place to meet someone in DTLA for a work lunch. I was offered indoor or outdoor seating, and I selected outdoor because it seemed like a nice environment. It wasn't too hot when I got there and the seats were all in the shade. As we got closer to 2 pm, our seats were more exposed to the sun, which made it slightly uncomfortable and sweaty. I'd consider sitting inside the next time I eat there.
The food was good, but nothing so amazing that I immediately need to make plans to return. It was a solid meal with good salad options for a lunch meeting. The Blue Cow Cobb Salad and the Grand Caesar Salad (add chicken) were pretty standard, but the Cobb salad was served with a mustard vinaigrette, which was a nice option. I saw other people order bread to eat with their salad, which I would potentially consider in the future. I would also consider getting a meat entree or pizza the next time I go depending on the setting. The Sugarbird Iced Tea was refreshing and unsweetened.
Service was attentive, but not overbearing. The bill was conveniently split by seat, but it wasn't necessary as it was a business lunch.
I parked in the California Plaza Garage based on OpenTable's profile of Blue Cow, and they said that self-parking was full when I got there. However, the valet took my car and I was able to use Blue Cow's validation for it. In the end, it cost $3 after the validation, and I was there for less than 2 hours. Don't forget to bring cash if you plan on parking in the garage and want to leave a tip.
Overall, I'd recommend for a good, standard meal.
This was our first time at Blue Cow so we didn't know that the outdoor seating is best. Although we had a reservation which would have been indoors, we chose to sit outdoors at the bar because it was a beautiful night and the interior space is less appealing. There wasn't an available table outdoors unfortunately. If we go back we will definitely request patio seating. We had two glasses of nice red wine, the short rib pappardelle pasta and a delicious shredded kale salad with shrimp on top. The food was great and the location is very convenient to Disney Hall where we had tickets to the LA Phil that night.
I thought the food was good but not memorable. It's a pleasant, place for a quick bite and it's a quick walk to the music center. My salmon was tasty and reasonable priced. The food service was friendly and quick, but the bar service was sluggish. Drinks were a little pricey. I would return for the convenience and location.
We were a party of eight during lunch time- our waitress was great, we got our food in a timely manner once we let her know and the food was delicious.
Very disappointing. The only IPA they had was a very cheap and tastless one for $9. The $18 dollar burger was ordinary and not very good and the fries were thick and a!most inedible. The beet and arugula salad was way over dressed and was a soggy mess.
Food is 3.5, add .5 for atmosphere = 4.0.
No Blue Cows on the premises, in fact no cows. Not sure where the cows are?
Check it out, just don't expect incredible food. Go for the scenery.
Good for a date, before a show, business meeting, friends, really any occasion.
Service fine, they won't baby you, be ready to order.
Great service and food
Great service
A great idea- a sit-down version of some of the wonderful Mendocino Farms food.
The BBQ Chicken Salad was nicely done with generous pieces of chicken, and delicious crunchy things. The burger was moist and cooked perfectly. French fries were cold, wilted and soggy, and the butter cake was underwhelming and cloyingly sweet.
The service was the real problem. Our server was just not interested. At all. It was like pulling teeth. Long disappearances, slow returns, little interaction. (It felt like we had grabbed sandwiches at Mendocino Farms and were eating outside on our own, and every time she passed by we were bothering her because she had other things to do.)
Noise level is way out of control - you cannot hear the person in front of you. Our waitress was spectacular - perfect amount of attention, very pleasant, quick in an out experience. But seriously, you have to do something about that noise level. Whew!
Excellent food and service. The wait staff were attentive and provided suggestions about the menu based on our requests. A fun, lively crowd contributed to making a fun evening.
We like everything we ordered. Thought charging corkage after each of us have two cocktails was poor customer service and just bad business.
Always have a great time at Blue Cow! The only blemish in this visit was when we mentioned that one of our group is vegan. The waitress said they could make the Brussels sprout dish vegan, and we eagerly accepted (cause it's delicious!). Unfortunately, we didn't notice until the end that there was, in fact, pork in the Brussels sprouts. Just a warning for anyone who requests something for allergy reasons!
Pasta was over cooked. Disappointing.
Lovely food in nice setting (we sat outdoors). We got there quite early when there were very few other people, but as we ate it "filled up". Our only issue was the loud music, which I think they turned down when we asked about it. Salmon was great as was the salad we split, and my partner loved the pasta in jalapeno cream sauce.
Great for a pre theatre bite or after work drink!
Service was bad. Our server did not even check if we wanted refills on our drink. It was understandable that our food got so delayed because their computer was down, according to our lady server. But for us to call other servers for what we needed, because we can't find our server, that's not good. We got our check from another person and on our way out, we found our lady server standing outside by the bar. ☹️
We had several dishes that were outstanding. And it is close enough to Disney Hall and the Center theaters that we could enjoy dinner beforehand. Reservations are good but probably not essential.
Yes, as there are very few pre-theatre places to dine.
Loved this place! My brother and I loved it, except they were all out of most of their beers on tap and bottles. But overall great food and drinks!
Fun spot. And food was delicious. Thoroughly enjoyed the salmon.
Excellent food and excellent service! Everyone is super friendly.
3 appetizers were all excellent, and more than enough for a two person lunch. Really an excellent lunch experience.
Just ok. With the multitude of dining options in DTLA, this is not anything other than ordinary.
We were to see the ballet at the DCP, so parked at the Music Center parking which turned over to event parking right at 1630 for $9 cash. Walked about 10 mins to the Blue Cow and sat right down. We had the Cobb Salad, the Arugula&Prosciutto Pizza, and the Potato and Short Rib Pizza. Very tasty, good flavors, and adequate portions. Our server was fast, on the mark, never intrusive but always available. Ambiance was quiet, tasteful and fresh. After a yummy meal that felt so relaxed and never rushed. We walked back to the Music Center in time for the Pre-show talk at 1830. In all a 1645 reservation gave us a leisurely amount of time to park, walk, enjoy our meal and walk back in time for a 1830 pre show talk and then a 1930 show. Perfect evening (minus the earthquake) We will be back!!!
Nice outdoor seating for a casual meal. Food is mediocre. Service was attentive. Worked well for a pre-concert meal before going to Disney Hall.
Nice food and service. The outside sofa wasn't that clean, and inside the noise level was very high, inherent in the design.
We were there at the end of the night and as we were filling out the check they turned off the lights I understand the restaurant was closed but it was rude to just kick us out when we were already leaving. Ultimately never going back.
We were promptly greeted and seated, in a nice outdoor area that, although it faces Grand Avenue, is set below street level, which keeps down some of the noise. Our waiter, Grant, was very enthusiastic. I don’t think there’s an item on the menu that isn’t his “favorite.”
We tried the short rib pizza with, at Grant’s suggestion, the gluten free crust. It was extremely tasty, but I’m not at all sure that the special dough added anything to it. Next time we’ll try the regular dough. With that, we had the Asian Spring Roll salad, which was very good. I especially liked the cashews and the fried shallot in the salad.
For the two of us, it made a nicely filling meal. It appears that they have happy hour specials during the week. We’ll have to wait to see what those are like.
The staff was extremely friendly and it seemed as though they knew almost everyone coming in.
We’ll definitely try it again. It’s a great location for any of the museums and theaters nearby.
manager's quick remedy and response to negative comments on food was outstanding.
waiter's service was very good and overall very good. Definitely going back again.
Our favorite place for dinner before a concert at the Disney or a play at the Mark Taper. Service is consistently excellent. The food is always good and inventive. If you get there for Happy Hour, the prices are brilliant. (And the house chardonnay is a definite price performer.)
Easy place for dining before a show at Disney hall or Center Theatre Group. Food was good and prompt and an easy 10 min. walk to theatre.
