Blue Cow kitchen & bar
Noise level is way out of control - you cannot hear the person in front of you. Our waitress was spectacular - perfect amount of attention, very pleasant, quick in an out experience. But seriously, you have to do something about that noise level. Whew!
Excellent food and service. The wait staff were attentive and provided suggestions about the menu based on our requests. A fun, lively crowd contributed to making a fun evening.
We like everything we ordered. Thought charging corkage after each of us have two cocktails was poor customer service and just bad business.
Always have a great time at Blue Cow! The only blemish in this visit was when we mentioned that one of our group is vegan. The waitress said they could make the Brussels sprout dish vegan, and we eagerly accepted (cause it's delicious!). Unfortunately, we didn't notice until the end that there was, in fact, pork in the Brussels sprouts. Just a warning for anyone who requests something for allergy reasons!
Pasta was over cooked. Disappointing.
Lovely food in nice setting (we sat outdoors). We got there quite early when there were very few other people, but as we ate it "filled up". Our only issue was the loud music, which I think they turned down when we asked about it. Salmon was great as was the salad we split, and my partner loved the pasta in jalapeno cream sauce.
Great for a pre theatre bite or after work drink!
Service was bad. Our server did not even check if we wanted refills on our drink. It was understandable that our food got so delayed because their computer was down, according to our lady server. But for us to call other servers for what we needed, because we can't find our server, that's not good. We got our check from another person and on our way out, we found our lady server standing outside by the bar. ☹️
We had several dishes that were outstanding. And it is close enough to Disney Hall and the Center theaters that we could enjoy dinner beforehand. Reservations are good but probably not essential.
Yes, as there are very few pre-theatre places to dine.
Loved this place! My brother and I loved it, except they were all out of most of their beers on tap and bottles. But overall great food and drinks!
Fun spot. And food was delicious. Thoroughly enjoyed the salmon.
Excellent food and excellent service! Everyone is super friendly.
3 appetizers were all excellent, and more than enough for a two person lunch. Really an excellent lunch experience.
Just ok. With the multitude of dining options in DTLA, this is not anything other than ordinary.
We were to see the ballet at the DCP, so parked at the Music Center parking which turned over to event parking right at 1630 for $9 cash. Walked about 10 mins to the Blue Cow and sat right down. We had the Cobb Salad, the Arugula&Prosciutto Pizza, and the Potato and Short Rib Pizza. Very tasty, good flavors, and adequate portions. Our server was fast, on the mark, never intrusive but always available. Ambiance was quiet, tasteful and fresh. After a yummy meal that felt so relaxed and never rushed. We walked back to the Music Center in time for the Pre-show talk at 1830. In all a 1645 reservation gave us a leisurely amount of time to park, walk, enjoy our meal and walk back in time for a 1830 pre show talk and then a 1930 show. Perfect evening (minus the earthquake) We will be back!!!
Nice outdoor seating for a casual meal. Food is mediocre. Service was attentive. Worked well for a pre-concert meal before going to Disney Hall.
Nice food and service. The outside sofa wasn't that clean, and inside the noise level was very high, inherent in the design.
We were there at the end of the night and as we were filling out the check they turned off the lights I understand the restaurant was closed but it was rude to just kick us out when we were already leaving. Ultimately never going back.
We were promptly greeted and seated, in a nice outdoor area that, although it faces Grand Avenue, is set below street level, which keeps down some of the noise. Our waiter, Grant, was very enthusiastic. I don’t think there’s an item on the menu that isn’t his “favorite.”
We tried the short rib pizza with, at Grant’s suggestion, the gluten free crust. It was extremely tasty, but I’m not at all sure that the special dough added anything to it. Next time we’ll try the regular dough. With that, we had the Asian Spring Roll salad, which was very good. I especially liked the cashews and the fried shallot in the salad.
For the two of us, it made a nicely filling meal. It appears that they have happy hour specials during the week. We’ll have to wait to see what those are like.
The staff was extremely friendly and it seemed as though they knew almost everyone coming in.
We’ll definitely try it again. It’s a great location for any of the museums and theaters nearby.
manager's quick remedy and response to negative comments on food was outstanding.
waiter's service was very good and overall very good. Definitely going back again.
Our favorite place for dinner before a concert at the Disney or a play at the Mark Taper. Service is consistently excellent. The food is always good and inventive. If you get there for Happy Hour, the prices are brilliant. (And the house chardonnay is a definite price performer.)
Easy place for dining before a show at Disney hall or Center Theatre Group. Food was good and prompt and an easy 10 min. walk to theatre.
Fun atmosphere, a bit noisy inside. We liked the vegan choices, even though we aren't vegan.
Try the sangria!
Fun and easy!!! Needed to get to Disney Hall for a show and our terrific server Sarah made sure that we were in and out in about 50 minutes.....and we never felt rushed!!!
And the food was tasty and although served quickly this was not fast food!!!
Birthday Lunch was great. Very accommodating with reservation modifications.
Excellent meal. Ahi very good as was the quinoa salad. Excellent “Casa Margarita!”
Always a great pre-theatre place.
Dependable—affordable—and good energy
The food is excellent. Don't forget their happy hour during weekdays.
This was my first visit and I was very impressed. I will definitely be back.
Good food but way, way too loud with patrons screaming over each other. Going out for me and my friends is mostly a social experience. It really doesn't matter how good the food is if we strain to hear each other making for a pretty unpleasant experience.
You would have rec'd a 5 on the service because our waiter (and all waiters that I have had experiences with) was great. The issue was about seating. We were given a small table and when I asked if we could move to the tall round table or a larger table (not for four but for two) said he couldn't. Yet the restaurant at that time was barely occupied. Understood. However, when we left the restaurant, there were still tables available inside and outside that were bigger - and again they were not occupied. That's it. Thanks.
Love their avocado quinoa salad which I ask them to add salmon and even though not offered as a suggestion on the menu, they always comply. Happy hour is the best. Go here with the office after work and grab a bite to eat before Disney hall. Have biz luncheons here unless I need a white tablecloth place. You can be healthy or even the fried chicken sandwich is high quality chicken and you know it is fried because of the menu as it appears greaseless. Great pizzas. My go to place. After work, hopping place outside; go inside if you want quiet. Lunch time inside/outside reasonable quiet.
A rather noisy place with modestly priced good food. It is worth going to before a night at the Music Center.
Our experience started off badly which ruined our lunch. We had reservations through open table. We were seated at a small table pushed up against a wall. My wife was not pleased with the table. The host became very snippy and told us that was the only table available, all the other empty tables were reserved. I do not understand why a restaurant would place as their welcoming host a person with such a pompous personality.
nice setting, but definitely noisy.... our sever was nowhere to be found, and another table seated after us experienced the same thing. Tony came to the rescue, even though he was clocking out, making sure we got our drinks and food. After it became clear Tony was taking care of us and not our "assigned" server, we wanted him to pick up our table, but he was "off the clock", but kept an eye on us anyway.... we took care of Tony, who took care of us... our server seemed way stoned... overall I recommend the Blue Cow and won't let one spaced out server turn me off... thanks to Tony!
PS: if you park in the structure underneath the Plaza, BE SURE to get validation. the plaza charges 4.50 every ten minutes! with validation, an hour is about 3.00.... BIG difference
We love coming here for happy hour before seeing a play! The service and food is always outstanding!
Impressive quality of food and selections. Our favorite is the warm spinach farro which comes with another dish, but we like to order it as a side. The brussels are the BEST anywhere! The berry corn cake dessert is spectacular. Jordan was superb and Rafael has been consistently gracious and welcoming. He even remembered us from months ago.
Found on Yelp with the high reviews. Lived up to the high ratings in all regards. The food was amazing and service was on point. The menu has a wide range of choices and setting was great. We’d definitely go back.
