A real catch...if you love seafood, and, I do!

Black Salt doesn’t disappoint if you are looking for fresh seafood cooked to perfection. Calamari and mussel appetizers were standouts on an outstanding Restaurant Week Menu this August round.

We three came to Black Salt for lunch as part of Restaurant Week, DC. None of us had been there before. The three courses were all interesting, fresh, well spiced. Each seafood dish was better than the next from the mussels to the fresh fish to seafood stew. Desserts were divine. Service was impeccable, thoughtful yet not intrusive. We would recommend Black Salt to our friends and will return for other special meals.

We had the restaurant-week lunch menu. It was fabulous from the gazpacho to the crabcake to the homemade ice cream and key lime pie. Great attentive but not intrusive service. Very lovely and quiet back room. The fish market looks like a place I will have to return to.

Great restaurant, delicious seafood and very friendly staff who made our anniversary very special! Great value for money. We've been here several times and will definitely come back. Especially recommend grilled octopus as a starter and crabcakes as main dish, amazing!

My wife was served a glass of wine with a dead bug in it. When I pointed this out to the waiter, he lied about it and said it was a piece of cork. He took the glass, but instead of giving us a new glass of wine he gave us the same glass minus the bug. Disgusting.

I have been to BlackSalt too many times to count but this was our first “Brunch” experience even though we weren’t actually planning on Brunch. I decided to have the Huevos Rancheros which I have to admit was disappointing. Firstly it claimed to have a mole sauce, which it did not and frankly seemed to be lacking in overall flavor - and no avocado slices on top. For the price it was just MEH ... and I won’t be going back from brunch again. Perhaps I am just picky but I’ve had many huevos rancheros in my time and this version was not a winner. I hold BlackSalt to a different level and just expected more from them.

We had a fabulous time and really enjoyed the food, especially the halibut which was a special that evening. Crab cakes were excellent as well. I'd be happy to go back anytime. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys quality seafood.

We came for good seafood and BlackSalt did not disappoint. My appetizer of salmon belly and blue crab poke with sticky rice, avocado and tortilla was exquisite. I'd go back tomorrow just to have it again. Our entree of crab cakes were some of the best we've ever had -- and that's saying something since so many places around here do crab cakes well. We loved the kick they had and it was well complimented by the cotija grits and corn-green chili relish. We also had the wood grilled swordfish which was smoky and flavorful. Our service was wonderfully attentive. Although pricy, our meal was beautifully presented and delicious. We look forward to going back.

Fine dining seafood. Very good. Nice varied selection of wines too. King salmon and halibut temp was on point. Not too hard of a sear either. Scallop in the Cioppino/low country stew thing was slightly under as it had a "sticky" sort of center. We were sat in the back past the wine bottles and it was a very secluded private area it felt like. Highly recommend coming here.

Our waiter went way beyond all our expectations. The food was delicious and thanks to his initiative i enjoyed a dish with wonderful vegetables replacing ones i am allergic to.
When we asked for A quieter table we were immediately reseated

The specials and entrees are wonderful here, but the mark of its exceptional quality is that the same fine ingredients and careful crafting is applied to the supporting cast. I've never had a better ceasar salad.

Great oysters, great beer, great mixed drinks, great bar, great Happy Hour, and great dinner on Sunday night. Superb service and the crab cakes were delicious. Also, the fresh snapper was wonderful.

I have mixed opinions due to the varying quality of the dishes we ordered. The wood grilled calamari appetizer was great and recommended. I ordered the branzino and it was delightful. The tuna on the otherhand was extremely bland. Honestly it was something I would make myself as a terrible cook. Given the price point of the restaurant, I was quite disappointed. Anyway, 2 out of 3 dishes were great but avoid the tuna. Still a good restaurant if you order correctly.

Fresh seafood and local ingredients highlight the fairly short but adequate menu. The Ipswich fried clams were light and crunchy. And the fresh tuna on ciambotta was tasty but very messy due to the tapanade and dressing, so I decided to use my knife and fork. Ambiance was great for conversation and the wait staff were quite attentive.

I saw the review on PBS a couple of months ago. Now that I have experienced Black Salt for myself, I would echo their rave review. Everything was just perfect. Can’t wait to go back! Highly highly recommend. Our server made our evening even more enjoyable. His recommendations were outstanding.

The service was excellent. Now, when it comes to value for money it doesn't mean it for me. The food was very good but also pricey. The food was very good but old style which in this case means very creamy for my taste. And the dessert was also very old fashioned. I don't have anything against old fashioned received. Actually I like the most of the time. But this was pricey for that.

I enjoyed my wine. The food was well-prepared & tasty. Our server Milan was excellent. We liked the enhanced olive oil & tasty bread. Our desserts were satisfactory. But we will never return because we consider the prices way too steep.

Had the fried Ipswich clams, scallops and cheese board to start. Clams were outstanding - tender and juicy inside a perfect fried batter served with a delicious aioli. Scallops were cooked perfectly and the burrata cheese and meat board was an outstanding choice.
We had the hanger steak, crab cake and striped bass (special) entrees. All were delicious.

Was a bit disappointed in a few of the courses. Have dined here multiple times, it’s been a few years. Our server was outstanding. The wines were very good. The sampler of six different oyster types was also very good. The Octopus app was delicious. However, the Ipswich Clams (which I have had here previously and were excellent), soft shell crab app (eaten as an entree), and Halibut special were surprisingly mediocre. The soft shell had too much going on with it, would have been better if prepared with less accompaniment. The halibut was prepared with a local veal, ragout style. The combination was not very elegant.

So, a mixed bag. Given our past experiences here, the reputation, and certainly the cost, better is expected and warranted. I hope this experience was more of an anomaly.

It was my birthday celebration with my family and it was very nice starting from the menus personalized to say “Hapoy Birthday.”! There were 6 of us and we all enjoyed our food, except for my husband who didn’t care for his tuna entree. I had the watermelon salad which was delicious and then had the grilled octopus appetizer as my entree. I loved it! 2 others had the brandino and 2 others had the crab cakes which they all enjoyed. The tuna was good but the sauce wasn’t so wonderful. They also made my dessert into a Happy Birthday treat. It was a great bday celebration!
