Benihana restaurant in London’s Piccadilly offers a truly unique dining experience. The show-stopping chefs with their dancing knives and witty banter originated in New York in the 60’s and Behihana’s culinary experience has been enjoyed by more than 100 million diners worldwide. Each of Behinana’s large shared table enjoys its own dedicated chef who prepares a light, delicious, many-coursed Japanese meal teppan-yaki style before your eyes while entertaining you with samurai knife skills and a stream of charming patter. You can choose from several kinds of steak, chicken, or seafood and let the chef take care of the rest. Meals at Benihana are terrific fun for families, groups of friends and outings for work teams as well as easy first-date venues. The décor is modern Japanese, smart and minimalist. Service is charming and, if sushi is always part of your Japanese meal, Benihana’s sushi is an excellent example of authentic Japanese cuisine.

Disappointing dinner. The prices at Benihana are high. For that you expect decent service, which wasn’t provided. Firstly we were rushed to our table and denied a drink at the bar, because “they expected to be busy” which wasn’t the case, and then when seated they didn’t even ask us for a drinks order!
Secondly, the waiting staff didn’t clear away any of the used plates, glasses, etc. And after the main course we were seated alone, surrounded by the deteris of previous guests. The waitress only removes the plates etc. when I asked.
Thirdly, the waitress didn’t properly explain the menu. She offered desserts without pointing out that only ice cream/sorbet was included in our £45 fixed price menu. She then refused to make a deduction. Very sharp practice!

Overall the ambience was poor. The teppanyaki was entertaining, and the chefs skilful, but there was insufficient extraction to prevent our clothes smelling off the fried food. Do the filters need cleaning? The overall decor was tired. No artwork and the whole place needs decoration.

The table set up was cramped. Made worse by the fact the waitress didn’t remove the large plate for the main course whilst earlier courses of soup and tempura were served. Very odd.

The food was of a good standard: especially the teppanyaki beef, fish and prawns.
However, given the very poor service, poor conditions for eating and our treatment regarding desserts and pre dinner drink, we left very disappointed.
Our neighbours on the table were similarly unhappy.

The chef was slightly bummed out; put on a show but it seemed more forced than him actually enjoying it.
1. Soup: very salty
2. Crab appetizer: good! Best one
3. Steak: overcooked when clearly asked medium rare
4. Seafood diablo: not that flavorful
Overall: had high expectations

It was one of my favourite restaurant last year but I won't go there anymore.
The price is usually high but worth it when you have a show.
However most of cook don't do anything anymore.
We complain to the waiter , that responded unprofessionally and she was really rude and pushed up to pay and go.

I don't remember it to anymore except if you know the name of a cook that make good show and you ask to be with him, otherwise go to Soho . You will get the same food, 3x cheaper.

The food was amazing and so was the chef. The service however was slow (took around 20mins to be asked to order) but the person that really let the experience down was the girl on reception. We called to explain we were caught in traffic but around the corner and was met with a very rude girl who barked down the phone “ if your not here within 15 mins of your booking your table will be given away and you will have to wait for the next available table ok bye “ and slammed down the phone... we were there within 3 minutes so I felt she was unnecessarily rude and unaccommodating. We eat in high end restaurants every week and have never been spoken to so rudely by anyone when calling to say we were a few minutes late. A shame as it spoilt the mood but the food was amazing

Front of house was polite and professional. Provided warm welcome and took us to our table.
Food and drinks were ordered promptly. Sat and waited over 30mins to be served any food.
Chef was engaging and professional. Included everyone on the table. Did several different demonstrations and confirmed food order before cooking.
Waitress was very keen to take food away. Was asked several times if we were finished with food and was clearing plates the minute they became empty whilst we were still trying to eat the rest of the meal.
Bill was given to us automatically as the last plate was finished. We had child's ice cream which still hadn’t come and wasn’t offered until asked. When asked for this, the waitress didn’t seem keen on the idea of serving it - finally came another 15mins later after the bill was paid. Whilst eating this ice cream, a waiter came and was cleaning the hot plate with chemicals in front of my child.

Not the service you expect from this restaurant.

We had our second visit to Benihana's on Saturday, having had a fantastic experience during our first visit back in October. We were celebrating a special occasion and based on previous experience, thought this would be the perfect place to do so. We had a fantastic chef who entertained us with his skills and great banter during our first visit.

Unfortunately, Benihana won't be somewhere that we'll be rushing back to, based on the experience we got during our second visit. We cannot fault the quality of the food however we feel like we were missing "the show-stopping chefs with their dancing knives and witty banter" element of the experience. There was a lack of interaction at all, and quite frankly it felt like the chef didn't want to be there! We've left feeling like we paid a lot of money for an experience for 4 people that just didn't live up to expectations.

Had an amazing meal at Benihana Piccadilly, food was amazing, atmosphere was fun, the only let down for me was that 2 people on our table (not in our group) were in a rush which meant the chef didn't do as much of a 'food show' as he had for other tables. Overall still had a lot of fun watching the chef do all the tricks and would definitely recommend and would visit again!

Good show, food very tasty, especially since it's nice and fresh, cooked in front of you, but the atmosphere is a bit TGIF. There were seven Happy Birthdays sung while we were there, and a lot of young kids. Great that they can attend, but it's not fine dining.

The chef was not as engaging as I have previously found. Also, the waiter took quite a long time to bring our drinks to us. In fact, he served another table their drinks before us even though they came in almost 15minutes after us.

the food, however, was great and tasty. Portion sizes were good and I enjoyed my meal thoroughly

Our experience at Benihana Piccadilly was fantastic. We had a Jesus a great waiter and provided some great food and drink recommendations. Val was an amazing, really talented, took us through the ingredients and their place of origin. Even though we were all strangers at the table it felt like a warm communal event. Would recommend to anyone and everyone.

Great fun, good food, more like dinner and a show than just dinner. Our chef was great fun, very entertaining and made the evening! Prices are high for the actual food, but I guess you are paying for the entertainment too. Would go again, although I think from looking around we were lucky with our chef as some of the others didn’t seem to be as much fun! Don’t expect a low key, relaxed dinner here, it’s loud, informal and fun!
