Fantastic service from everyone. The setting is lovely and the food and drink was very reasonably priced. We would definitely recommend this restaurant.
We enjoyed the whole experience. Food was delicate but flavoursome and the fish cooked to perfection. Great view of course and an interesting exhibition of paintings on display too! A la carte menu reasonably priced So looking forward to returning soon.
Great location and outstanding service; very nice food too but not much choice for non-meat-eaters.
Saturday evening before Xmas-- we had booked, and just as well as the restaurant was full throughout. Mix of groups and families with surprising number of youngish kids--exepct thats the Xmas factor!
Quite a small range of options on the menu-around 5-6 per course-but even a veggies we managed to have pick of 2 per course.
We had the mushroom starter and the salmon starter--both were full of flavour and well presented.
Next course we took the Portobella Mushroom and the Turbot.. The mushroom came with young stem broccoli, small lightly roasted potatoes, whilst the Turbot came with mussel sauce and a bed of mash potato, along with a green (spinnach/kale like) veg, whose name evades me.
Portions just about right--left room for a pud!. I declined, but shared some of my wife's baileys and ice cream arrangement--very nice. 1 bottle of Marlborough Sauveignon went down well. 2 bootles of water (approx 75cl) were bought before and during he meal without asking.
Staff were helpful and the music was cool.
price was £72 for the wine with 2 and 3 courses--very good value.
Will certainly be going again
Stunning place - value for money - makes you feel like a filmstar! Even the guests looked stunning. AND you can ask to make a dish to be VEGAN without any hassle at all - a million miles from the usual 'Mediterranean vegetables' which is all most chefs can think of! LOVE IT!!
Lovely meal here, good quality food and local ingredients where possible.
We were the only diners on a Wednesday evening so was nice and quiet.
Have been here before and never have a bad meal, would recommend this restaurant.
I have eaten here a few times now and the service has always been to a high standard as indeed has the food. This time however the food let the experience down. The food was cold, the plates were cold. One of my guests sent the food back on 2 separate occasions. In hindsight i should have sent mine back to as it felt like the roast beef had come straight from the fridge. The food tasted very good and I do feel uncomfortable complaining esp when the service is perfect.
Really great meal out. Only downside is it’s a bit old fashioned only having one vegetarian option. Normally it’s tolerable because it’s a great option. But this time it was just three mushrooms. Not very exciting. But the meat eaters meals were diverse and interesting.
Glorious setting, fab food and attentive service! Highly recommend. Ask for a sea view - it’s so worth it!
Absolutely ideal for a business lunch love, comfortable waiting area for a pre-lunch drink and then such a great view across the Channel whilst you dined. I had the broccoli and stilton soup starter, followed by the smoked haddock with kedgeree, both dishes were so good. My accountant had the same starter, followed by the rump steak and triple chips, with trimmings, again, it must have been very good as he didn't leave anything on his plate!! A very relaxed atmosphere, good service, very good food and a great view, thoroughly recommended and I will definitely be dining at Sands again.
Throughly enjoyed our evening celebrating my partner’s birthday, extremely quiet in the restaurant only 3 or 4 tables having dinner. Food was delicious and didn’t have to wait too long. Only thing missed is sugar wasn’t served with our coffee. When restaurant is that quiet could have possibly done with some low level music playing but it didn’t impact on our evening just a suggestion.
We initially visited the Sands about a year and a half ago, the food was superb and service outstanding. The latest visit on 23 October 2019 was SO disappointing as the quality of food has dropped dramatically. They served up six scallops in a disgusting sauce as a main that was very poor in terms of value. Then the crab salad had some sort of crap mix that could have been out of ajar from the tase and inedible avocados that were no where near ripe.
Great food and setting super staff! Bit slow but great quality food
We’ve dined here many times and its our go-to place too spoil visitors. But hey what happened to the bread....bread and water to the table is always the mark of a good restaurant? Was sorry that your signature Negroni was off the bar as you had run out of Campari? Really - on a Saturday night, when Morrisons was still open - not to mention the offy around the corner. Come on guys. Substituting an Aperol spritz - with lemon assuming you had no orange - was fairly pedestrian. Cocktails should be fun and decadent guys - not measured out like some chemistry experiment with penny pinching accuracy!
Food was fabulous but hey when we asked for bread with our starter we were told that it was focaccia had to be put in the oven. Info useful previously. Service was charming and the place is great - but hey Grace Dent is about and Margate is on the up....so stay sharp folks. We wanna come back.
Loveley ambience and super food at reasonable prices for this quality.
Excellent Jazz event with a lovely dinner great ambience and lovely views over the sea.
Fantastic, friendly and great food and the view is amazing. It really was a birthday treat
The sands hotel is a perfect setting for a relaxing lunch overlooking the beautiful sandy beach of Margate.
We had a table by the window so could take advantage of the lovely sunny day.
Food was very good. Presented well and delicious. I had the lamb. Perfect.
There is a lovely balcony overlooking the bay and we were able to enjoy drinks and desserts out there.
Perfect vantage point to watch the world go by.
We could have sat there all day.
They also do afternoon tea from 3pm which I am going to try next time.
I recommend you go visit and see for yourself.
Very nice for special occasions. A little in pricey side.
Very welcoming and comfortable surroundings. Service good and friendly. Menu just enough choice. The food was well presented and portions adequate - the food tasty. The white wine was served at a good temperature. Would visit again.
Amazing food - absolutely savoured every bite. Staff were fantastic and completely on the ball. Prices surprised me and were no where near as expensive as I was expecting, only worked out a little more than quite a few local restaurants I have visited. Already talking about when we will visit again.
We took pre-lunch drinks up to the terrace bar lovely views felt like I was on holiday . The lunch we took in the main restaurant the staff were attentive and friendly. Food was varied well presented and tasted lovely
Would definitely go again
This restaurant has a lot going for it--the view of the seaside is fantastic and the furnishings and ambiance is beautiful. The meal itself was very good, including the wines. If I had to pick highlights, I would say the steak and the sticky toffee pudding were most memorable. The wait staff, like the staff throughout the hotel, were fantastic. However, it was clear the restaurant was under-staffed. As the restaurant became full toward the end of my meal, the could not keep up with the workload.
This was our first and much anticipated visit , a special evening with our daughter. The service was friendly and attentive , the ambience good but the food let it down badly.
The starters of cauliflower and fennel croquettes were tasteless, unseasoned and had unpleasant texture. The mackerel was tasteless and watery.
The main of lemon risotto was inedible , the rice chalky and artichoke on top raw . The chicken in the burger was chopped thigh meat with flabby skin on and chips cold.
The sticky toffee pudding was fine but a meagre portion .
A quiet complaint was acted upon quickly with the pudding not being charged for but this was not the problem. The waiter commented that the chef "sometimes gets overwhelmed".
Despite this we enjoyed our evening but could not recommend the food unfortunately.
This hotel and restaurant is a gem and one that I would thoroughly recommend. Food was delicious. Beautifully presented but not fussy and over engineered. We sat outside on the balcony watching the sun over Margate beach set before dining inside. The food is great value and the hotel rooms were modern and clean with some nice personal touches. Loved it!
Lovely venue with great views across the sands and an excellent ingenious menu.
Perfect for a birthday celebration dinner great food and service .You can normally take your champagne or cocktails out to the balcony or roof terrace but weather was not great on Friday☹️
Our second time at Bay at Sands Hotel, and a very nice lunch too. Not many others there on a Monday lunchtime, but food was nice.
I have visited and eaten at Sands several times and have enjoyed the experience. However, on this occasion the menu appeared to have changed which was fine with a reasonable choice on the menu. I ordered Oysters and then mussels as a main. Unfortunately, within a few hours I was violently sick. Having raised this with them they were adamant it was not as a cause of their food - naturally. On a positive note the restaurant ambience was good and secretive reasonable with pleasant waitresses. Unfortunately due to my experience I won’t be returning as their are several good restaurants now in the area which I’ve never had a problem with.
We had Sunday breakfast here. It was incredible value for money. We would have awarded 5* throughout our review except the restaurant was absolutely freezing - maybe there was a problem with the aircon? We had visited the restaurant the night before for drinks and it was a very pleasant temperature. Highly recommended otherwise
Really lovely setting and meal in the restaurant. Delicious starters, loved the beetroot soup. My husband had the pork belly and it was cooked to perfection. I had the sweet potato gnocchi and the taste was superb except the gnocchi was very over cooked and solid. Staff were incredibly helpful though about this issue and to be honest the flavour was so good it didn’t really bother me that much. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal! Thank you!
Lovely staff and environment but we waited a while for our food with others being served theirs sometime after ours despite ours being salad and theirs being hot dishes. Asked to see the dessert menu after being offered it but this took so long that we decided to get our bill. Seemed to be 3 waitresses which may be the reason for this as it was a busy, sunny afternoon. Hence the reason for the 3 stars but definitely hope to try it out in the future.
Third time of dining here and not a great experience this time round.
Nice sea view but service was poor due to inexperienced staff!
One main dish and one dessert served cold when both should have been hot!
Pre dinner drinks took time to arrive
My mussels arrived with no fries as per menu and were forgotten!
Mushy peas served with cod were cold but steak ok.
Coffee served before our dessert arrived and sticky toffee pudding was served cold. We came here to celebrate a special Birthday for my friend and mentioned this twice but no attempt by restaurant to recognise this!
Overall very dissatisfied
We spoke to a young manager who did deduct a main course and coffee from our bill. However will not be returning .
This restaurant needs their staff to be fully trained and give a much better service to their diners The restaurant was not busy whilst other places nearby were extremely busy ! I wonder why???
The view is absolutely lovely and the waitress was extremely good. The service needed some help. I believe that they needed another waitress/waiter as the two that were there were very busy and did not have the time to serve properly. Considering the prices you would think they could afford another. The food was very good. I would visit again.
Sea view attic room we stayed in has fantastic vista. Beautifully finished & furnished. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Dinner excellent & breakfast too. Lovely place to stay!
fabulous food plenty of choice well presented and service superb
Food was very nice and generous.
Service was very slow and almost too long in between meals.
Waitress was stern, and almost rude on taking our order.
The only reason we went to The Bay Restaurant at The Sands Hotel was for a traditional Sunday Roast. We had read reviews online about bow good it was both for food quality, portion sizes and value for money. However, after spending an hour in the car to get there we were confronted with a vastly limited, and fairly expensive menu, in an almost completely empty restaurant (at lunch time on a Sunday)
A result of them axing the Lunch menu perhaps......
Needless to say, we upped and left but it rather ruined our day out to Margate.
Beautiful building and decor overlooking the beach. It’s expensive and has the ambience of fine dining but the food and service is not of that quality. I don’t want to use the same fork for starter and main and when having a bread rolls it would be good if butter was served! The afternoon tea seemed a popular choice and the staff were friendly, I just think they need to ensure it’s all top quality to be in keeping with the tone of the restaurant.
Very quiet evening, enjoyable. Food was good and will eat there again.
