Located in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood, Bateau is a beef-centric, French inspired restaurant with fresh, local ingredients and bold flavors. Bateau has an extensive wine selection including local and imported wines.





Bateau's selection of steaks are butchered and dry-aged in house and presented on a chalkboard that changes daily. Steaks are butter basted and finished with your choice of finishing butter. Chef Taylor Thornhill also offers a 5 course beef-centric Tasting Menu with optional beverage pairings.

We brought our 15 months old son and were disappointed to find out that they don't have a highchair. We ordered the burgers and they were a little too salty for my taste.

Friendly and attentive staff. Steak was meant to be medium rare but came out medium + and the server expressed concern but no apology from the manager or anyone else. Onion cricket starter was dry and appeared overcooked too. All in all a but hit and miss as the chicory salad starter was really good but given that steaks are their ‘thing’ disappointing cook and even more disappointed with the reaction.

I went there to celebrate my fiance's birthday, we were greeted at the table with a hand written happy birthday card. The service was 5 Star and the food paired with the experience was magical.

I think it would have been nice for the server to go through the different types of cuts and explain the difference between them and where they are on the cow what the difference is etc. I dont feel like the steak selection that was recommended was in line with what i said my preferences were or what i ordered prior. The ambiance was amazing as well as the cocktails and sides. overall good experience, just had high expectations.

Both of the setting in the service or excellent. The menu specifically openers and entrées were excellent, the dessert menu was less than to be desired. It should at least be one somewhat traditional dessert options. Only feedback was my file at $73 at a little bit of fat in it but other than that everything else was perfect

Love this restaurant.. but it’s worth noting that the lady who greets people and escorts to the table, speaks ugh such a low voice that when she explains the meat cuts etc., it’s next to impossible to hear her... minor thing.
Beets were undercooked. Otherwise, fantastic meal, great service in a beautiful restaurant.

I have never experienced such a unfriendly attitude towards the customers. The staff gave good advice and the food was good but the whole experience was tainted by the unfriendly atmosphere.

I'd expected outstanding savory selections but the dessert options truly set Bateau apart. If I'd known how unique the menu of finales would be—pea & Pernod sorbet, and a flowering currant ice cream, which I couldn't resist—I'd have saved room to try them all.

This place was MOST BEST! We were fortunate to arrive a little early and sit at the bar & talk beef with their in-house butcher.He educated us about some cuts we would not ordinarily try.We tried three steaks.They were all excellent.The other items we were great too.If they need a t-shirt logo it might say:

"Go Beef or Go Home"tm If you do not like beef do not come but if you do it is EXCELLENT!

Came for our anniversary. The service is incredibly friendly without be a nuisance. The who vibe of the place is upscale without being pretentious. I love the chalkboard menu showing exactly what is available and makes you feel like you are at an auction trying to win a special cut of beef! We went with the tasting menu and it was exquisite. Such varying flavors, but each a celebration of beef. Even the dessert used beef tallow to create a flaky and flavor filled crust. We will be back for a steak and get there early to have our pick!!

So first off, the staff contribute hugely to the experience. Our server was amazing. She helped us select steaks from an overwhelming list of ranches let alone cuts. All grass fed and finished. Someone beat me to the “ball round” but the Jacobs ladder was beautifully marbled and cooked to perfection. The starters were all so delicious and thoughtfully prepared. Best meal out in some time.

I love the ambiance at this restaurant. The concept with butcher’s specials means that each time you have a different experience and learn something. If you love the idea of a steakhouse restaurant but detest the dark, ritualized meat presentations and clichéd side dishes then this what to try. Service is superb and the starters (try the tongue) and sides are delicious.

The service here is consistently spectacular, the food is delicious, and the price is a bit high but you're getting what you pay for. The staff has an encyclopedic knowledge of food and wine and the place runs like clockwork. It's my special occasion place and everyone I've taken has been extremely impressed.

Have lived in Seattle for many years and had never been to Bateau. My husband brought me here for my birthday...what a fabulous experience. A very friendly greeting as we arrived with a happy birthday wish, followed by excellent service by our server, Jessica. The food was over the top with the special corn and the heirloom tomato salad as the standouts. A little birthday postcard at the table and a special candle plus bread pudding for dessert was another added surprise. Hats off to Bateau for a job well done!!!

Bateau was phenomenal! The beef was excellent, but dare I say that the sides were what I came home raving about?! Get there early to ensure that you get a full choice of what’s on the board in terms of beef, and let your waiter lead the way!

We were here for my husband’s birthday. Our 11 year old son loved everything we ate especially the beef liver mouse with a plum paste. Highly recommend this place. It’s our favorite Renee Erickson restaurant.
